When you upload a new version of a theme to Wordpress - that has the same name as the last theme - how do you do it? Do you uninstall the current theme or does this destroy all the work you have done to date? The way this works is that you first activate one of the other themes - Twenty-eleven, for example. Then Symbiostock will have a delete link under it as it is no longer the active theme. Click on delete. Then upload the new theme (by pointing at the latest zip copy of the build) and activate that. It doesn't hurt the work you have already done as that is stored in the database. I also am having trouble with watermark - I seem to remember Cathy mentioning it in another thread but I cannot find. I just can't understand Steve's help above. Do I have to log into Godaddy to make suggested changes? I've made my own watermark - it needs to be exactly the right size, 522x522 and a transparent png. Make it pretty low opacity so it is just visible. Then upload it somewhere to the site (you can use the normal image/media manager to do that, or FTP it. Then update the setting on the Setting page of Symbiostock to point to the watermark. It is added during the image processing step. To do the PHP.ini stuff, you need to have ftp access to your root folder - where the top level folders associated with Wordpress sit. There may be a php.ini file already there, in which case you add the extra lines to it and re-upload. If it is a new php.ini, then you create it in notepad, save and upload. You may also have a file explorer in your Godaddy account that would avoid the ftp step. Steve

Thanks for the kind comments about my blog!!
I'm struggling at the moment with various issues around this new site - it doesn't work with 1and1 where my main blog is housed, so I'm trying to build it on a new host. Moving all my stuff from 1and1 would be quite a project and I want to make sure that I only do the move once. I think I'll play around for a bit and then decide how to best do this. I suppose I could also have the stock photos as a new element under my main blog - eg backyardsilver.com/stock and that new folder is where the stock agency occurs.
That would be easy to do once I have sorted out my hosting!

Safe mode (in PHP core) is off in my version - but I'm doing OK up to 10M

That is strange. I just tried a 7M file and had no issues at all. I just did a completely clean build of WP using their script. Set the permalink setting to Post, added the Symbiostock theme. Activated the network, and set to work on images. First one worked fine and everything less than 10M has been OK.
Wonder why it is different?

I had little success with 1and1 tech support, I'm afraid. I think this may be a project where you need to pay out a bit more money for success. BlueHost is sort of OK so far - I'm just working an issue with files above 10M, but it is a lot better than the experience I had with 1and1

I'm jsut working on this with Bluehost. I can upload images up to 10M without issue, but above that level I get the same error. I'm trying to do a chat with technical support.

Hi Ruchos
I'm with Blue Host now and have no trouble with images below 10M - above that I get an error after uploading when I go to the Process page which tells me the image was not named properly or something like that.
Do you use FTP for your larger images or the in-theme uploading process?

One other update about this 1and1 issue. I never got it to work for images over 1M, so I've tried a new build on BlueHost with their $3.95 a month for 36 months package. Building the WP site was a breeze - no separate creation of a database etc. I'm used to all the settings now so I quickly added the Symbiostock theme. I uploaded a 3M image with no issues, but I'm struggling a bit with a 14M image. I'm getting an error for files greater than 10M. Perhaps I need to use FTP for that.

I guessed about the 1and1! I'm having all the same issues!
In case it helps, here is a link to a page about the script that takes a php.ini file in your root folder and copies it to all other folders. There is also a script that deletes the php.ini file if you need to get rid of it from all folders. Works well - you just need to add the "external" root folder ID - which you get from the environment area of the Testing Tab of the Sybiostock options. It is called Redirect_Document_Root and looks like: /kunden/homepages/23/d898564.....
Anyway, back to the plot. I found that putting this php in all folders made the system work without errors but it froze at Process images. I then tried with a very small jpeg - 100K file size - and it all worked. However, I tried with a 1.5M file and no success.
I contacted 1and1 support and they told me to buy the business package (although my package is supposed to have 60M of memory and the Business one only has 80M, so I've given up on that.
I'm currently building an installation in BlueHost instead. They claim to give your money back for any reason, so I thought I would try it in a new host.
Sorry that I haven't got better news about 1and1

I can help you with this - I was with 1and1 and they have a restricted set of commands that you can use in PHP - the programing language used.
I had to add a php.ini file - which you create in notepad and save as php.ini and my contains the following:
allow_url_fopen = ON allow_url_include = ON allow_furl_open = true
You should be able to them upload that (using ftp) into the root folder of your site. On 1and1 I had to run a script that puts it in all the folders of the installation.
Hope that helps - this is not an error in the theme - it is a hosting company restriction.

I noticed in the hosting thread that you use BlueHost successfully. What is the largest image file size you have uploaded so far? I'm searching for a new host (currently with 1and1) and I want to make sure I move somewhere that will be a long term host as I have a lot of sites to move!

A question for you SEO experts out there!
I already have a reasonably well indexed blog that comes up in the Google searches. I keep it up to date with weekly/fortnightly posts. Would it be advantageous to add my stock photo site as a part of this existing site - ie use stock.backyardsilver.com or create a new site/url altogether and just link the two together?
Would my images get a higher placement in Google searches in one option or the other?

Nice site! How did you put the three alternative pages onto the home page? And add the new menu items? I was trying to do that with my About page, but with no success so far

Isn't the issue with the example file above - the actual keyword is rubber stamp, not stamp. So the search is not looking inside a compound keyword or phrase?

Remove all non-alpha-numeric characters from search Not sure we should do that - how about a $20 bill in a stock photo? The $ wouldn't be found Steve PS - my search seems to be working OK, but I'll try some more variants

I'm with 1and1 and am in trouble with my installation. I think I have finally got it to work with very small images (about 300K file size), but I think I am running up against the 60M of allocated PHP memory. I had to fiddle around with php.ini files in every directory to even get this far. So, not good news if you are with 1and1.
They have been fine on my other wordpress sites, but this one seems to need a lot more processing when you are putting the images up on the site.

The 'Process Uploads' page stalls at reload with only the title displayed, and the metadata for a processed image appears in an entry in 'All Images' without any thumbnail. Ahh - that is the issue I am having, even though my images are about 1.5M in size. Which setting need to be added to the php.ini file to properly change that memory allocation? Steve

Is there a max number of characters that we can put in the title? And is "stock photos" a good choice to add into the title?

Don't know if this would make sense, but I'm in conversation with the COO of a hosting company (Servint.net) about the issues I have had with 1and1, and perhaps it would make sense to share a dedicated server among us all? They also have a cloud solution where you pay based on what you do - I've asked if that would make sense.
I'll keep the group informed. I've known him for a long time and they have been in business for 15 years so they are stable!

I agree that those search issues are problematic and I'm sure Leo will have a fix in mind.
However, won't most searches come in from the internet via Google, and it is how they search the information that makes the difference in the short term. Once you have some loyal buyers, the local search will make a big difference.
