@OP: for those who have direct sales channels, like Photoshelter, that's one thing.
For the rest, yes you could have a link to our ports at agencies and let us know which you'd like, but then we'd need to source them from our own hard drives, which takes time - some of us are no doubt better organised than others (in my case, my files are across several HDs), then resize them and package them off to you with a custom licence, ditto.
So for some people it may be practical to offer them to you for a lowish price, for others not so much.

1052
@OP: have you tried Alamy? The prices on the file pages are scary for your purposes, but I haven't had a rack rate sale for years. You'd have to have a look there: I think you could probably find most of what you need there if you want photos, but not if you want illustrations. Then contact their sales people, tell them how many images you want and negotiate a deal. That would be a one-off deal, you wouldn't need to take out a monthly subscription. Some of the fees I've received on Alamy have been really low, and 6k is a substantial bulk buy.

1053
That's just the usual client / photographer relationship probably with a minuscule budget!
That's what I thought. What has that to do with microstock? (A micropriced commission?)

1054
My outsider's perspective: if I follow a link from Google, from the UK, I always get the Russian language site.

shutterstock is getting a russian contributed website mostly. most of photographer featured are from russia....mosto of content come from russia...simply because is so chap to produce content in russia.

Mebbes aye, mebbes naw, but even if they were officially a Russian company, their system should surely automatically appear in the most likely language of a possible potential buyer, at least if that is one of the world's most widespread languages.
Not that I actually care.

Nonono, your use of 'observation' was perfectly correct!

On iStock, you can see it in your stats.
For me, it's c25% - 30% US, 25% - 30% UK.

On Alamy, at least for RM files, you can see it in the sales details for each licence sold.

I think I've read you can see it in your SS pages too.

Pretty much no, unless something new has been added in the last year.  I asked this same question a year ago and was told that news outlets rarely go to stock agencies for breaking news, and that stock agencies do nothing to court them.
Alamy has a section for same day news. I have not used that option yet so I dont know how fast they review
It's virtually immediate, they go straight onto the Live News Feed, and the best are pinged out to relevant newsdesks.
However, see links in my post above to see how is has changed since April this year.

Out of the agencies listed here alemy does have that tick box. You do see these cretited in media.quite often.

But Alamy does not accept editorial media (do they??).  I would expect that any breaking news media would be editorial
Alamy is primarily an editorial agency, although they do accept and sell released images too.
(Are you getting mixed up with Adobe, which I think I've read don't take editorial submissions from most contributors?)

Alamy changed Live News recently and now they really only want people who are committing to seeking out and submitting sellable Live News on a very regular basis.
There is some thought that if you have Live News and submit it directly to their editors, your files may be looked on favourably, but I don't think that's been established.
You also have the option of submitting news as Reportage. The advantages are that reportage files go into general stock very quickly (immediately), and you get a much longer description field. The downside is that for ever afterwards there's a note on the file saying it might not be up to normal standards, even if it is; also Reportage files don't go into the Live News feed, or get pinged out to editors.

I'm not sure that Reportage is News. Not the way Alamy handles it. I've applied and they said, my content was news, not "reportage". But of course we speak different English across the pond? I could try to find the reply and information, it was last year.  :)

Yebbut watch my lips: "Alamy changed Live News recently and now they really only want people who are committing to seeking out and submitting sellable Live News on a very regular basis."
In short, many people had their Live News upload facility closed. At first it was supposed to be if your Live News hadn't sold as Live News (not counting future general stock sales of these files), but in fact, some people (I know one personally) who had sold Live News files as such, had their uploading stopped, and weren't reinstated on appeal, no explanation given.
If people were never Live News submitters, they can apply with recent tear sheets of news files in use, but it seems to be taking a long time.

About a week after they sent the emails out to people from whom they were removing the Live News upload facility, they sent a second email out to those who have had Live News images subsequently selling as stock to tell them they could now upload via the Reportage route. So although I had never applied to upload Reportage/Archive, these are now in black on my upload page, so I could do it if I wished, but my Live News is now greyed out.

Really??? Most media outlets go to stock agencies that cater to real verified photo journalists, not the type of photo journalists that have a flaky SS media pass... Just sayin.

I assumed that mindstorm meant 'micro-stock agencies'.

After you've completed the tax interview, you should be paid around the next 26th of the month.

If you want to know how much you've earned beforehand, you can find out in esp in Royalties > Summary (a month at a time).
Also at https://accountmanagement.gettyimages.com/Reports/Statement

(huh? When I did web design back in the day (waaaaaaay back!) we were told to have the URI reflect the path used, so it should be .../royalties/summary)

Hi guys,

Been not so active in stock photos last few years..

Kind of lost touch with istock after many changes. I think I haven't received any payment from them long time.

Found out that login page is in istock esp, but after login I can't really find how to know how much royalties I have earned.

Just update my tax interview and how to i know how much I have earned and how to get paid?

Thank you.

USP: Something of benefit to the customers compared to the micros. As well as more customer service.

1065
I hope folks treat this topic as part of the knowledge a stock photo contributor should have.
Why? It's not as though I'll ever need to know.

1066
Thanks Artist and Microstock Posts for your replies.

If you read my post carefully, you'll understand that I was asking about refund on credits and subscriptions.

Not refund on downloaded photos.

I can be a contributor who has a  buyer's account with a stock site and if I don't use the credit and subscription plans, may I   not not ask for cancellation and refund without thowing sand into a contributor's rice bowl?

How would we know the policies other than by reading the terms and conditions like  you did?
Without reading them, I'd assume no refunds unless you haven't downloaded anything at all.

Yeah, you are right, sometimes it seems an eternity for some of their clients to pay. I think some are on a 90 day plan and some might be longer. I agree, it is a sticking point. When we make a sale, we expect to be paid, yet Alamy says, "well you need to wait for the client to pay". Which basically sucks. I wish they would demand payment when downloaded like Microstock.
Respecfully disagree; it's a USP they have compared to the micros.
I wish they'd be totally proactive in chasing up payments, though, and not leave it up to us in some cases.

1068
As we found out, this is because people are more likely to look for photos in general terms, rather than by specific names of locations and objects. As a result, the images containing general keywords received more sales than those containing original place names.
From the agency on which I can see search terms, that's not true. Specific searches are most common, then general, then a small proportion of 'goodness knows what they wanted'. Possibly that's not true of all agencies, I couldn't possibly say.
But anyone with any sense keywords specifically and then outwards to more general terms.

1069
When does sales start and end in a cycle? Would May sales end today cos its the last day of the month
Yes

1070
There's also the strange licence: "Personal use, One of each of the following uses: Personal use, presentation, internal communication, student project, reference for artist, personal website, personal social media, personal print or card. Worldwide license. Not for commercial use.".
One of these I got for the same price as the PU sale with the terms: "Personal use, Personal prints, cards and gifts. Non-commercial use only, not for resale.", but one went for even less.

I have no idea how the 'personal users' find out about the first kind of licence, as it's the second one which shows if I click on the (?) info button next to Personal Use on a file page.

1071
Anyone think of just adjusting the saturation 10% or whatever and the video is considered different enough to be uploaded on other sites? Not just your Exclusive Site?

No

1072
Why not consult a personal financial advisor?  Just make sure they have the appropriate qualifications and registrations.
They will no doubt advise you not to put all your capital into crypto.

Long term? Make sure you have a solid Plan B.

1073
Like I said before, I've had very suspicious PU sales, but I've never been able to prove a misuse by finding the file online.

Without that evidence (or being in the unlikely, but possible, position of finding it in print), Alamy won't do anything.

Tangentially, I just had reply from Alamy about a proven misuse of mine, saying the mis-user won't reply to them and I'm now welcome to take it up myself. Last time that happened andI did that, I was well out of pocket (phoning & sending registered letters abroad) and in the end, only got a takedown, and I suspect that was only because I contacted his ISP and they did it.

1074
Then of course, we don't know whether the 'diversity' referred to in the OP meant that people should shoot a diverse group of images, they don't all have to show diversity within each photo; also maybe they were going to say that not all images should be styled for the US market.

1075
Population of United States is approx. 327 mln. Population of the planet is more than 7 bln.

The United States is slightly more than 4% of the whole world population.

Sorry, you can't be a "global" company, if you reflect the views, values and issues of just 4% and ignore 96%!

It would be great to have local "Heads of Content" too, who understand the whole picture and interact with each other. It will be better for business in the long run, if you want to sell to more than 4%...
On the other hand, what has traditionally sold best as stock images has been content which is styled in a US way, smiley, happy people - very different looking to UK styling, far less that preferred in other markets. And although the US is only 4% of the population, a disproportionately large proportion of my micro sales (iS) is to the US, even though I have very little US content and no 'styled' images.
Whether the US making the lion's share of micro sales, probably overall, is chicken and egg or not, I couldn't possibly say.
