may i know how to tell a white balance of a photo is wrong?

to me istock share of sales is much less than shutterstock's.. i always curious how to do it when people quote istock is equally to shutterstock. My files is much more in shutterstock, since istock won't really accept some kind of vectors or illustrations.

1055
what is that dollar bin?

I only notice that istock will decide credits of vector based on 'complexity' so vector has different price.

i guess i was lucky to get accepted in istock, because i wasn't even uploaded the full size image for the qualification, due to it is scanned image and the size is less than 6MP, but i was accepted. It seems now it review the technical quality of the images instead of just photographic quality?

however, i found that maybe you shouldn't include your studio shoot, i found the park and the palm tree images aren't interesting, most time you need to have great light outdoors to make your images look great.

i checked out your shutterstock, i like this 2..

Off Topic / Re: Anyone else ever get an email like this?
« on: August 09, 2010, 00:38 »
i think there is one thread here about similar email, everything that needs you to pay first is a scam..

i got some simple vectors that are rejected for the same reasons, at the same time the jpg version are accepted. I think jpg and vector are reviewed by different reviewer. Vector format is always selling better than jpg format, and yet the vector are rejected.

I don't think they will pay for uploading.  Sales are going to be slow, if they appeal to the old StockXpert buyers and can get some of them back, they will pick up.  I hope they let more people in and build up a strong collection while they have this opportunity.

not sure how big their stock photos amount, but it seems like they had let those big guys got in first and will deal with individual contributors. there is one illustrations showcase on their front page had been showcased on bigstockphoto before. As a individual contributors i will just step aside first as they had no regular sales yet..

I checked the freshstock and it seems there is a 5 credits promotion if you register, 1 credit can download 1 for the minimum size.

I had registered an account using the promote code 'freefive' but see no way to get free downloads, so i email and they had put 5 credits into my accounts.

so just to inform you guys there is this promoto code.

I will just register and maybe wait till some promotion like getting paid for uploading..

so far it seems the sales of the site is slow, many images that showcase on the front page are 0 downloads.

there is one shopping mall with world class service that wants to sell my shampoo, then my shampoo is also sold in a local grocery shop that wants to sell my shampoo too. Am i bad person to sell them in that way?

will a designer or images buyer will really 'blacklist' someone for this reason? I will think that most buyers bought something from certain agency is because he like the agencies service, the agency response is good, honour business.

I put my shoe that i am a designer in ABC company, i will just use the agency my company like it, and stick with it, why i have to spend time to find where i can get the cheapest price of same images? I may just stick with the agency that had worked good relationship with my company.

in business world, sometimes it is relationship between company that counts.

oic, thank you very much.

Hi all, so if i am using a 6MP camera or my file is cropped and less than 24MB uncompressed size, does alamy still accept if i upsize them to 24MB?
Yes, subject to not being SOLD etc.

« on: July 27, 2010, 19:46 »
Hi all, i copy and paste what i found in alamy website, it said that one rejected and all the 'awaiting QC' will be rejected. But i am not sure if only the first batch is inspected for rejection or whole batches will be inspected.

Base on what i read somewhere, does it mean some photos that is not meeting the technical requirement will pass through as alamy just check the first batch?(to explain how that out of focus jewelery photos is there)

Ongoing submissions

Once youve passed your QC test we only check a sample of images in subsequent submissions.
A submission is defined as any group of media that are awaiting QC at the same time regardless of the day they were submitted (they will all have the status Awaiting QC).
If we fail one image, we will reject all images in all media awaiting QC.
Media grouped together as a submission will be QCd together and will have the same QC date in Track submissions.
We will indicate the media which contains the failed image, with an information icon in Track submissions.
Avoid rejection by always checking each of your images at 100% looking for all possible QC failure reasons.
The average amount of time for a contributor to wait for their QC outcome is 48 hours please note that we do not undertake any QC at the weekend.
Ongoing QC failures can result in your online upload privilege being frozen for 30 days and in extreme circumstances your account being terminated. Blog post on freezing procedure
QC waiting time is dependent on your QC history, failing QC successive times harms your QC rank meaning that it may take longer for your work to be quality controlled. Blog post on QC time dependent on your QC history.

even it is written in english in model release, but i wonder if a photographer explained it clearly like that's mean i will not pay you anymore and your photos will be used for magazine, book even book cover and cd cover. Most people may think twice because signing it.

General Macrostock / Re: Micro vs Macro criteria
« on: July 22, 2010, 22:05 »
I can understand if the isolated on white object are rare items like a old radio or a rare camera. But a canon 5d or P&S is everywhere, will there be customer buy it for RM license.

but i am also quite surprise just pay 25 cents subs download in shutterstock, and you can use it as book cover. I thought those little money will just grant one to use in website or their invitation cards to their party, but i didn't know it can end up as bookcover and i just got paid 25 cents.

I also see some RM images like a canon xxxx model DSLR isolated on white, will people really pay an RM image like that?

it is quite strange, what is selling in macro? a brand DSLR isolated on white has a demand in RM market?

There is no telling what will sell.  Quite a few of my isolated-over-white images sell on Alamy.  It surprised me, but I am definitely not complaining :)

Crestock.com / Re: Crestock - new owner?
« on: July 22, 2010, 12:05 »
I browse through crestock, look like they just finish their first task..paying all outstanding payment to contributors, and start their second task, clearing all the backlog files waiting to be reviewed.

I think i will just wait after they had finished all the 'mess' left by the previous owner.. hopefully something like veer that paid for uploading!

I expect big changes, since Masterfile is one of the top macro stock agencies. But, who knows. Corbies is the big one and look what happened to SnapVillage and now Veer still struggling.

any good signs of crestock, i got whole batch rejected there after a 2-3 month reviewing time, then i read their forum, all floats with cursing and asking for payment...so i stop trying.

now it got new owner, what they are going to do to woo contributors back? any new things? i saw there is a $5 for contributing a free image?

I am trying to sell RM photos in alamy..browse through their photos, it seems technical quality isn't as strict as microstock..and more creative 'snapshot' can be found too, i read alamy doesn't reject much photos as long as pixel is technically okay and didn't upsize badly.

I also see some RM images like a canon xxxx model DSLR isolated on white, will people really pay an RM image like that?

well all, does it has an official statement about their QC standards? or it is just based on contributors experience?

does it mean sending small batch by batch with good quality is a better way? instead of sending everything as a batch?
