General Stock Discussion / Re: SHUTTERSTOCK RUDE LANGUAGE?« on: June 11, 2017, 09:32 »
I expected to read some cuss words or other rude language, but this is only a stern warning (even though apparently it's caused by a misunderstanding). So yes, you're being oversensitive. Especially when you start writing in caps.
Simply respond to them in a kind fashion and explain them your situation. Sometimes it's really that simple. 1053
General - Stock Video / Re: new to video, couple questions« on: June 11, 2017, 06:38 »I believe pond5 lets you download them, and I do have code42 to backup my stuff but trying to get away from huge downloads in the need of backup. Would rather store local. I do need more hard drives anways as my pictures are also running out of space, but just can't afford it now. soon though as I believe I can get 2tb for about 60 bucks on amazon. H.264 is not ideal, because if the buyer wants to edit the video (say, color corrections) H.264 is often inferior to PhotoJPEG/ProRes. I recently found a way to encode with the ProRes codec on Windows, using AfterCodecs you can encode a lossless video format into ProRes using AE. 1054

GLStock / Re: Sales Plummet on GL since takeover« on: June 06, 2017, 04:32 »
GL Stock has never been a big seller but ever since their upload stop and take-over, it's been flatlining for months.
I still like their fair treatment, easy upload and royalty percentage, but I doubt it's ever going to grow into something sustainable. 1057
Adobe Stock / Re: Video and image previews updated in Adobe Stock portal« on: June 02, 2017, 17:54 »Please keep the suggestions and feedback coming. What do you want to see next? The option to choose a different thumbnail for footage files, because sometimes Fotolia automatically picks a frame that doesn't showcase the content properly (and this may hurt sales, just like a display window that's entirely black doesn't attract customers) 1058

Whose portfolio? You mean your own? Go to your dashboard, below the red upload button is a tab 'Videos', then click on Active Videos.

General - Stock Video / Re: Trouble with PhotoJPEG« on: May 31, 2017, 03:48 »Are you using 422 HQ, 422, or 422 LT? 422 HQ is pretty good, try to avoid the other ones. Also make sure that you work in 16bit/channel mode in After Effects, to get the most out of the 10bit/channel that ProRes can do. I used the 'standard' 422, I'll try HQ. Already working in 16 bpc. I'd like to think my display colors are accurate (although I haven't color calibrated it with a colorimeter ![]() Havent used noise yet in this example, gonna give it a try. Thanks! 1061

General - Stock Video / Re: Trouble with PhotoJPEG« on: May 30, 2017, 16:33 »
I did some tests. Here are some screenshots of the first frame. From worst to best: PhotoJPEG, ProRes422, QT Animation.
I wonder if QT Animation would be accepted even if it doesn't contain an alpha channel? And how come ProRes doesn't come out at least as good as QT Animation? 1063
General - Stock Video / Re: Trouble with PhotoJPEG« on: May 30, 2017, 16:07 »Banding is horrible with PhotoJPEG especially with ultra clean animations. There are ProRes plugins for Windows just a Google search away, and will solve all your problems. I tried another ProRes plugin (AfterCodecs) which allowed me to use the ProRes codec. However I still get banding issues (ProRes 422). So far, QT Animation (@ 16 bpc) gives me the cleanest gradients with the least amount of banding. 1064
General - Stock Video / Trouble with PhotoJPEG« on: May 30, 2017, 03:48 »
I've been uploading my animation videos encoded with PhotoJPEG (95%) but in some cases it produces horrible banding on gradients that cannot even be fixed with some noise.
So now I'm looking into using another high quality codec that is accepted at all agencies. I'd like to use QT Animation or PNG but I reckon I can only use that if I have an alpha channel/transparency. ProRes also isn't an option unless someone knows how to convert to ProRes on a Windows machine (I've tried ProResConverter script for AE but it didn't work properly). That leaves me with MJPEG but Pond5 doesn't accept that. H.264 isn't an option. So I need some advice here. 1065

I'm getting annoyed with Canva.
I've uploaded vector files nearly 3 years ago, when Canva was just brand new. Sounded like a promising new venture (as it did for many other contributors) with a unique selling point. Lee told us that vectors would be available some time later and my portfolio would be prioritized. I waited patiently. Canva became kind of successful (for photographers). I waited some more. Then, when vectors were finally ingested, my portfolio was still labeled 'in review'. Three months ago I decided to ask them what is taking so long. My files had supposedly 'fallen out of the review queue'. They promised me they'd reimport my files and review them. Three months down the line, nothing has changed. My files are still not online. I sent them a second email today. If nothing has changed after a month, it's bye bye Canva. 1068
Selling Stock Direct / Re: Approaching publications directly with my image« on: May 25, 2017, 09:15 »
Wow. I'm assuming you've made some groundbreaking photograph that's going to make you rich and publishers should consider themselves lucky to get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of publishing your very unique image.
....Otherwise I don't understand why you're spending your time on two different threads discussing your detailed plans to distribute it. You're overthinking this. Too much hassle for just one picture. You should get rid of the idea that your picture is unique. It probably isn't and if it was, you should already have done something with it after two months. 1069
General Stock Discussion / Re: Which site would you recoment for Prints?« on: May 25, 2017, 07:59 »
I sell some of my vector work on Zazzle and Redbubble, but not very actively. The sales aren't huge.
I did some designs for Threadless, but it's hard to get picked for a t-shirt print. Even the best designers there sell only 10% of what they create. That makes your RPI less than minimum wage. I wouldn't call that good business strategy. Plus there's something ethically questionable about Threadless making money off of designers who work their asses off for a small chance of getting picked. Edit: I see they now have option of opening your own shop. Well, that might be worth looking into. 1070
General Stock Discussion / Re: Another request for cheap work« on: May 25, 2017, 07:52 »And a good tactic to avoid wasting time is to immediately throw an X-Y ballpark figure at them and see how they react. Nothing worse then spending a ton of time to come up with a quote only to find out their budget or cost expectations are nowhere near your estimate. That would be the only exception, but that kind of budget is rare and only big corporations will spend that much. Sure, when I'm dealing with a bigger, renowned company I'll charge more than usual, but you'll know soon enough whether you're dealing with a big customer. 1071

Nothing worse then spending a ton of time to come up with a quote only to find out their budget or cost expectations are nowhere near your estimate. That's too many questions for me. I'd do it like this: Buyer: Here's what I need. Can I get a quote? Me: sure, the price is X (or between X and Y). Then the buyer either accepts the quote or I never hear from him again. If you ask beforehand what their budget is, you allowing them to negotiate from the get-go. If I walk into a bakery, the baker doesn't ask me what my budget is either. Now if the customer says: "it's a little higher than I expected", then you could always start negotiating if you want (without immediately giving them a discount). 1074
CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Preview Image Colors WAY Off« on: May 24, 2017, 13:29 »The fault lies with Canstock. I'm experiencing the same problem. Well, the thing is, I always upload CMYK EPS8 files (plus an RGB JPEG) so I suppose this CMYK Postscript option is irrelevant for me (but it's unchecked by default). And the previews are still off on Canstock, but they're okay at every other agency. I remember Thinkstock had the same problem when my files were transferred from iStock to Thinkstock. Their previews were always off in terms of color (too bright and saturated). 1075
