StockXpert.com / Re: just wondering about the big "6"
« on: February 25, 2010, 16:41 »
I think it should be the "Big 4"   One day it may be the BIG ONE. If that does happen then we'll probably make more money because they wouldn't have any other site to compete with and wouldn't pass up on the opportunity to raise prices.  ;D

I know it's only in our dreams.. :D

off topic: have you ever noticed how many buyers are still spending 2008 credits? .. LOL you'd think they would have been used up by now.

"2008 credits" were actually sold up through the end of 2009.

Yeah I noticed alot of them to and wondered why. But if they were sold all the way to the end of 2009 then that would explain it.

Hi Donding,
(almost didn't recognize you, change of appearance here :) ), don't wait any longer, start uploading to them!
They're great and this is why :
- commission 52 % - makes me feel valued
- super easy registration - your email is all they want
- many contributors already have sales - not me, but I only started
- good looking site with beautiful, beautiful thumbnails and image previews
- upload process - this one is different. Not very visual (no thumbs) and can't figure out how to upload multiple files at the same time, but once your files are uploaded, that's it, you're done. They do all the rest for you!
Give it a couple of hours (it's really fast) and all your files come up for sale, complete with titles, descriptions, prices and all. It's a kind of magic :)
You can always delete / edit your images as you see fit.
It's a site created by designers for designers, it's beautiful and straightforward. They're easy to deal with and give us a great commission.
Let's support them and let's hope designers will too :)

Text in vectors - yes, I agree, put it in there. It helps designers better understand how to get the most of your illustration.
But don't forget! Always outline your text, convert it to plain shapes before you save your EPS file.
Best of luck and see you there :)

Still working on the "Technique".....I'm slowly but surely learning. I plan on doing it, but need to get plenty done before I do it. Quick question..maybe this isn't where to ask..but will anyway. Do graduants rasterize or is it just the effects that you apply that do it?

This link might help give you an idea. It's a calculator of what you should charge for stock usage. Some of the prices are a bit high, but you will get an idea of what to charge.

All mine have been .50 or 1.00. The last time I made a 2.00 or 3.00 sale was back in November of last year. It's been rather slow there lately

I don't know the exact stats, but I feel like the vectors with generic text in them sell better, mostly because people can see how they are supposed to use the image

Thanks for taking the time to answer. That's what I was looking for and kinda figured it was that way.

General Stock Discussion / What has happened to this forum???!!!
« on: February 24, 2010, 13:32 »
This is suppose to be a site were microstock photographers meet. It seems to have turned into a free for all. If I was a newbie seeking help I would think twice about even coming on here and partaking into any discussion on here for fear of being bashed. I don't know that I would even ever come back. When I joined last year it took me a long time to even join in on the discussion on here because I felt inferior. Some of you still make me feel that way because of your attitudes.  Some of you act like if a person doesn't make a living at microstock then that person shouldn't even be on here and is a waste of your time. I guess those of you that feel that way, must have been born with a camera in hand and had all the experience in a past life. You talk about immaturity...well the name calling and bashing is rather immature. That sort of behavior should have stopped with high school. There are people on here that do things I can't stand but I am not going to call them names and bash them on this forum. Even if I don't like them I will still show respect to them and will not disrespect myself. I was raised better than that. I know I will get bashed about this and put on your ignore list, but I really don't care because I can't just sit here and watch this go on. If you are feeling guilty then you probably are. Yes your entitled to your opinion and should speak your mind in a constructive manner but please think before you speak. I am going to leave it at that.

So if you want to bash me go ahead but please stop the bashing of everyone else!!

So you know I'm not hiding behind my screen name...I am Donna Beeler and I live in Alabama.

« on: February 23, 2010, 16:14 »
I'm not pimping here, just got a question. Has any one been having a problem with uploads at Deposit photos this morning? Actually I uploaded yesterday and only half of them made it. Then today I deleted them so I could reupload so I wouldn't have to figure which one made it and which ones didn't. I tryed their multi upload and all the uploads showed error on the upload page....so I tryed FTP...it is crawling and I'm not sure they will make it either....Anyone else having this problem this morning???

Just uploaded 5 image via FTP and submitted them without any problems.
Thanks oboy...I'll try again. Maybe it was something on my end. I had to work late last night and early this morning to get this major virus off my computer. It was a headache but I managed to do it. Hopefully that doesn't have something to do with my internet connection.

you get a lot of views like 3d studio but not many sales.

As of right now, vectors sell better than photos on our site, and certain styles of vectors sell better than others...for example, complex vectors usually outsell simple ones. I would assume on 3d studio that 3d objects would sell better than vectors or photos as well...
Do the vectors on your site sell better with the generic text within the vector or without the text? I debating on joining

Anyone know of a shortcut for submitting them in bulk from the Unfinished area, or do you have to edit each one, assign categories, and submit individually?
I FTP-ed 300 at a time and assigning categories was easy since I submitted similar-category images in a row by clicking on the small square thumb at every image. Only categories are inherited then (no models) and what really slowed me down is assigning releases for every image. There is no bulk release assign possibility.

What took me most time is reinventing the titles in case I entered something in the 'headline' IPTC field, since that field precedes the 'object name' field for title. Quite off-standard for stock. Also annoying and slowing you down is that you get erroneous error messages when title or description include non-alphanumeric characters, like quotes.

Whatever, I got my 111$ today and I will lay the site to rest now. I don't have high expectations as to sales the moment buyers will actually have to pay for their images. Right now, you can just sign up and get 150 images for free, for which the contributors are payed. This is an avenue that nobody mentioned here in the referral folly. Find or create a number of "buyers" that will "buy" your shots and you can easily get 100$ extra.

The clock sounds to tick when the referral program is over and when buyers will have to pay. The moment of truth is August 1 when the 6 months are over, since I don't upload any more. A sub sale every week like on CanStockPhoto isn't good enough.

FD someone on here pointed out that if you don't check the "category only" box and click on the copy image that it automatically assigns the model release to the photo as well. They were pointing out you needed to be careful when doing that. I don't upload several of the same model shot in a row so I don't know if that is the case or not.

An additional list for non-recommended sites, meaning sites that have gotten a lot of comments for non-payment and non-response from the site.
I really think that is a good idea...we would learn from other peoples mistakes...but then again you might be liable for slander, especially if someone came on here bashing some site just because. So maybe it isn't such a good idea. ???

« on: February 22, 2010, 16:08 »
Something is going on....maybe they are getting bought out like so many others recently. Personally I don't know why someone would want to buy them out because they aren't that good of a site to begin with. Look at StockXpert....they started acting funny before Getty latched onto them, but they were a performing site, not like 123RF

1125
Finally a reply from StockXpert!!! ;D

Your royalties will be paid out within 90 days. You will receive an email when the funds are transferred to your Paypal account.

I feel better now that I got some kind of answer from them, and also a time frame as to when I'll be getting my money.
Wow that's 3 months, that's a long time...Oh well I guess we should be thankful they gave us a time frame
