what will happen to the non exclusive royalties?
will they be lowered?
or will they raise exclusive to more than 50%?
That's really the question to answer because at this time we could all just raise our prices to $99 and the customer would want to know what they are getting for an exclusive clip vs. non exclusive clip. So I believe there is more to come. Pricing will be more controlled in some manner or, as you've stated. I think we will be looking at a total make over for pricing mainly because: Exclusive clip at $99: Assuming a 50% commission artist gets $49.50. As a non exclusive, I start pricing my clips at $99 and my commission is $49.50. Perhaps that is what P5 is looking to do to make more money, but the customer will see exclusive content at $99 and possibly some non exclusive clips at $99. Well not possibly, I have HD clips priced over $100. So I don't get the P5 angle yet. For an exclusive product you usually pay more for perceived value, then they have the "bargain" clips which can be priced the same. If the idea is to give a bigger commission to exclusives, say, 60%, that doesn't make sense either. In the above scenario P5 would make more with a non-exclusive. Obviously I am assuming that we non exclusives have the freedom to still price our clips at whatever we want, so we follow their lead and start pricing at $99. So this can't be the angle. I think we will see pricing ceilings for HD non-exclusives and also minimums. Say $49-$79 at 50%, and exclusives at $99 for HD @ $99 at 50%. I just don't think P5 would give the perceived value that non exclusive clips are as good by allowing us to price them the same or higher than their exclusive collection. Now, I will end by saying this: Here we have a situation where an agency is actually trying to get prices up and I totally respect them for this and they have my support. I have not been invited to their exclusive program, but by them even suggesting that non exclusives raise prices a bit is a good thing. If they are successful perhaps other agencies may follow in time, doubtful, but possible.

Thank you Irina, I was thinking of Dissolve but read mixed feedback on them. Had any descent sales from them yourself?
If your work is on Video Blocks Dissolve forces your content pricing to match theirs. However you will only then get 30% of the $49 at Dissolve. I would not support them for that single reason.

I still reflect on Peter at SF who stated that categories don't do anything and that's why he didn't integrate them into his site after leaving StockXpert. So I don't place a lot of emphasis on categories, pick one then move on.

Getting reviews in under a minute now.
It's obviously automated
Not going to conclude anything but I received two different site mails recently stating that SS is and that they are trying to pump up their collection size (video & stills) faster. There is also a hypothesized push to promote new contributors because it saves them 3-4 million a month in payouts, making the books look better. And since sales are really slowing down there for some of us, that strategy would make sense. My number of downloads are way down, and 1-2 big SOD's and/or video sales typically save my month. Without those I would be a $300 a month contributor, which I used to make in 2007. I could easily conclude that an auto accept feature on BS might be to help build their collection. I still don't get the strategic partnership of SS and BS aside from posts about BS serving a different market. Why wouldn't SS just go after that market or simply integrate BS and their customer base into their SS model? Anyway, like I said, don't know if there's any fact to the emails but thought I'd share speculation.

I used to love FF but it has become so buggy that I have killed it and use Safari and Chrome. Never looked back.

In the near future, I see profits of 3 cents and 5 cents per image download... Earnings are getting worse and worse every year... The agencies throw pennies in our faces and don't understand why we are not happy.
They completely understand it, but as long as assets keep getting pumped into their system they don't care. When agencies get into the 3-5 cents range people will still upload, not everyone, but many. And as long as an agency's competitive response is to keep lowering pricing, 3 cent commissions are on their way.

Looks like Exclusivity is only for your best clips. Doing a search for artist:[username], then setting the Exclusivity flag, gives only a small fraction of the portfolio (i.e. all footage clips = 8852, exclusive clips = 162).
Anyway, I submitted the form, I'm willing to know more and only after that I will decide what to do (or not to do).
Yea I did some random searches and filtered on exclusive and a lot of the work was, well, not too impressive. It reminded me of Istock calling their exclusive collection the "premium collection" just because someone goes exclusive.......their work is somehow better than those who choose to not go exclusive.

Thanks Mantis but I actually thought everyone would get this mail, the wording seems rather general.
Nope.
Oh, interesting Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have not received any email. I have about 900 videos on P5.

We have discussed "auto inspection" at SS for the last couple of years. I think this scenario pretty much shows that they are using automation for at least keywords and titles and maybe a few main image features like sharpness, which seems to be a common rejection reason for sharp images.
definitely, mantis. check back on your approved images, and be shocked of how some of the keywords are sliced off ... i was shocked to see how many of my images were left with only a handful of keywords which could mean no downloads.
sharpness too. try even having a slight motion in your image, to show panning or action of the subject..and it is rejected "out of focus". resubmit it with sharpened edge, and it gets approved. or perharps, resubmit it without any change and find a new reviewer and it gets approved too.
hint - skip the weekend reviewers IF WE ALL LEAVE THEM WITH NO WORK, THEY MIGHT JUST QUIT ON THEIR OWN
Totally. That is happening now. I could not believe it....until yesterday when I went back to look at my CSV file and compare to my existing files. Low and behold half to a third of my keywords on most files are indeed missing, especially my older ones that I am re-keywording. And might i say some are MAIN keywords that are missing.
Well this caused me some concern - but I have just spent a fair amount of time checking images - old and new - and I don't see any evidence of this at all.
I don't know how it happened, only speculating that it is an auto-check of some kind. But it is strange that I would put in 40 keywords (from my CSV) and only 10-15 are in the file. Last week I spend hours redoing a bunch, then I got burned out and quit. But there are a lot of my files that are awful, and strangely, lean on key words.

Thanks to both Mantis and Rinderhart!
I rarely get rejections, and this rejection does not make sense. Just want to make sure that a resubmit will not be an offence.
You can go that way of Rinder too. I just got 5 rejections for noise on an animation. That was me as gradients in animations have banding. I just reduced the blue noise introduction and they all got accepted. I just resubmitted and chose the drop down that says previously reviewed content.

Guess I did all right with $62, then, but it's way off the best days - my lifetime total there is $26k.
Ha, I am right there with you, Paul. I made $58. A far cry from my old average" of $180.

Go to your video rejection file and get the batch number you submitted it in and the image ID then emai them at contributor relations with this info and your explanation.

So, how do we know, that the titles weren't changed after files were accepted?
I believe that it's because SS assumes that their reviewers would have picked up the spam and the artist "HAD TO HAVE CHANGED" them post acceptance. Hence the accusatory message in their email. To me it seems like an awful lot of work to submit a legit batch then go into the editing system after acceptance with the strategy to spam your titles (and even keywords). So there has to be culpability on the part of inspectors. It will be VERY INTERESTING over the next couple of months to track a few spammy ports to see if they actually take action on the offending artists.

I got a surge from VB and P5, both of which have been essentially zero for the last 2-3 months. The pattern continues for me with VB...2-3 months no sales, then BAM! 10 sales in June. Same with P5. So almost made a grand between the two sites in June. P5 was a mix of video and stills, but video made up the bulk. SS was $200 up over my average and IS was about the same ...but have to wait for PP and Getty sales to claim BME.

I have to wonder whether re-kewording old images that are so far down the sort order is going to make any difference to their sales. I've done it with a few old and even not-so-old images but it seems to have no effect. Time and number of sales within a short time on the site seem to be the most important factors for a good position in search.
Totally possible and highly probable. Just gives me something to do this weekend.

As far as I know their inspection could still be 2-3 months, but I haven't uploaded there in months so I'm not certain. It's possible that inspection time is way down due to many contributors halting uploading due to high rejections.
I haven't used a CSV or automated metadata with P5. In the past I just copy and pasted from my CSV. But I would say that you are safe with lower case. If you really want to know, just do an upload with one file and see what they do. Just make sure your work is up to snuff because they are rejecting a lot of footage now.
Their last review time was about couple of weeks. The biggest part of the clips was accepted. The truth is I would personally reject some ones they did
Interesting. So they either got more inspectors or people stopped uploading with all the high rejections (like me). But I agree with Astonished in that I made $350 in sales there in June. Nice mix of images and videos. Also, I have been upping my pricing there. Sold one HD clip for $115. Also raised prices on my top selling videos and they continue to sell with the higher prices. But this is just one month. The last few have been a smattering of sales after I ripped P5 in an email. Probably shouldn't have done that. It really "feels" like I was penalized in some way because my consistent monthly sales fell almost the next day, and just rebounded in June. See what happens in July, Aug and Sept.

Today was a bad day, I swear if july is going to be worse than June then it might be time to put my 4000 portfolio of popular images online at full res for free and let Karma take care of the rest! Hopefully it was due to outages at SS today but I am not so sure thats it.
July 4th weekend. Most people were off today. Personally, sales are down 20%, but that's expected.
If you have 4000 images and sales are declining, consider re-keywording some of your images.
When the SS email came out I started looking at my accepted images starting in late 2006. I've gotten so much better at key wording today, and am in fact going to go through all of my older images and cleaning the keywords......albeit taking my time and not panicking against a 2-3 week timeline. I've already plowed through 100 images in a few hours.

Got email with apology and clarification from Oringer and SS this morning. It was a mistake. Everybody calm down. "We want to reassure you that no further action is required from you."
Wouldn't that just be the S H ! T S if in a month our accounts were closed for not cleaning up titles (by taking no further action)?

Common guys, SS did a mistake and they accepted their mistake. Chill down.
I can accept when a mistake is made, we all do that, but the only mistake here might have been the carpet-bomb email. The removing of images was certainly no mistake, and I don't think I will "chill down" until I understand what happened to my images, assuming some have disappeared. For a company to remove images, with no notice or chance to fix, is not a mistake.
*. You uppset about removing images and yet, you don't even know, if they were removed from your port. You're a joke.
When you don't have anything intelligent to say, resort to bad language, name calling and bullying.
