Newbie Discussion / Re: Suddenly sales stop? Is this normal?
« on: December 12, 2016, 18:29 »
Oh good! It's not just me. Haha it's great when things are going well but this slow down is brutal. And I've still been uploading quite a bit. SS is taking longer to review than they were. Need a good big sale to make my day.

The good news is that a newbie will see huge gains in their first few years- anywhere from 100% to 600% which is fun! Enjoy the moment while it last  8)

Yes, because it's easy to go from 2 sales a day to 4.  Enjoy it.

So, someone pays big bucks for exclusive rights to an image, but you're ok licensing a similar image shot five seconds later multiple times on SS?  You don't think the guy who paid all that cash might be a wee bit upset?

... ... And why would you put the same images on an RM agency that you have on SS?
Because he "really didn't care".

I gave you a like for that. True! if the agencies dont care then why should I?

Why are you under the impression they don't care?

You lost me.  Was it 60 cents like you posted or are you saying it was six thousand dollars?  And why would you put the same images on an RM agency that you have on SS?

"This mormning though I had a fantastic surprise my other agency had sold two of the pictures with world-rights etc and for the hefty price of. $.6000!! ( my percentage) I nearly fainted I thought sales like that was a thing of the past."

60 cents caused you to faint?

Photo Critique / Re: what is my photo/portfolio worth?
« on: December 12, 2016, 03:15 »
in 3 weeks, my entire SS portfolio has earned me about $20. every sale was for 38 cents. how much might I expect to earn with my existing portfolio in 1 year, or monthly, or for its lifetime? how many years do images sell for?

So, you've got about 10,000 videos.  And you're at the highest royalty level.  So you have some idea how SS works, obviously.  Here's a tip, though.  Try a different composition then shooting the same thing repeatedly at eye level, from the shoulder up, cutting off the top of the head.

Something weird here.

Is there a reason you're bumping these old threads?

When will the ad campaign kick in?  I haven't had a sale in weeks.

CM turns a blind eye to pretty much any infringement.  They like to pass the risk to the buyer and photographer.

1138
Ah, well thanks for the info and the fix.

1139
Well, that was fun.  Rats.

I've had lots of $3.30 DLs at FT today.  Very nice - keep up the good work!

Holy cow, yes.  Way to go Adobe!

I don't see how limits are "insulting".  They may be frustrating.  You may have to edit your submissions tighter.  But I don't see that as "insulting".

1142
You have some lovely work on your website.

But you have assistants, right?

or do you do everything alone - preparation, casting, location, shooting, editing, upload.

If you have a team I understand, but if you do it all alone, I am beyond impressed, you must have superhuman abilities.

Two shootings a day and 500 clips?

eta: just looked at your backstage images, so you have a team with assistants.

Then I can understand how you can produce high volume.

Still a crazy number, but I guess good job.

Trying so hard to be the Stocksy of video. Funny.

Honestly, if 250 isn't enough for you then you probably should revisit what you upload.

Lol. If you have 2 shoots per day (which is reeeaaally conservative if you're doing it full time), and upload just 5 clips from each shoot, that's already over 300 clips per month.

And given that you upload like 50 clips from the same shoot (at least judging by your portfolio), it's quite funny to bash on others for uploading over only 250 clips per month.

Uh, those are from separate shoots, pal.  And the newer one may be the most prolific I've ever been, lol.

1144
Sean, seriously?
So you make a session with 300-500 clips and cut to 20-30 to make limit on Dissolve?

Holy geez, what kind of session are you doing that results in 500 clips?  I shoot for two hours, that takes me a few days to edit, and I end with 20-40.

1145
Honestly, if 250 isn't enough for you then you probably should revisit what you upload.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Free Blogger Illustrations

In reality I think you just create a much greater risk for piracy with people downloading those illustrations and later selling them as their own. I've seen it happen hundreds of times... It happens a lot. It happened to me when I decided to do a little free experiment. Very annoying to see my stuff pop up on the very same sites I sell on, effectively stealing business. So free really backfired...

And to be honest, I don't think illustrations are high up on the list of things that someone who is struggling to pay rent needs to get...

i doesn't mean to hurt anyone's pov , i respect all of them,s pov,   but there are people who cant afford buying subscriptions ,

There are people who can't afford to buy a lot of things.  That doesn't mean they get them.

but what if i can make a pirate to a genuine buyer or help people who are really struggling in any means. this would be a drop of water to them .  :)

If they're a pirate, there's no incentive to pay you if you give it to them.  People who are really struggling probably don't need digital illustrations.
