Wow that's sad...do they know what caused it?
One of the conductors blew the red lights.
What is "blew the red lights" mean?

Ok  I'm beginning to understand, but does that Illustration box have to be checked on the high res jpg or just on the low res?

I just tried to name both jpg files the same...it won't let me do it even though they are different files sizes...so how do you do it?

1178
I'd think after an individual reviewer looked at thousands and thousands of pictures they'd all start looking blurry and that have that dreaded "noise"

Ok here's another question concerning SS. I'd uploaded all those vectors in jpg but not EPS...they all got rejected because
"Please choose "Illustrations/Clip Art" category AND check the Illustration box when submitting illustrations"
My category was Illustrations/Clip Art,but I didn't notice a box to check for Illustration. Any way it's probably for the best. Now my question is when you upload the high res jpg.....along with the low res + EPS file does the large jpg have to have a different file name than the low res jpg + EPS? If so wouldn't they kick it for being to many of same subject or duplicate files?

Funnily enough, after over a year trying to coax my 1290 to make glossy prints without red lines, I gave up on it and got an end-of-line 1400 a couple of months ago. Suddenly realised the hand-in for the Camera Club annual competition is on Thursday (have only been entering the 'projected images' section this year) so I thought I'd better do some. So I'm surrounded by inkjet prints from A4 to A3+, both mono, toned and colour for the first time in ages. All except one are pics I've got either on iStock or Alamy.
I know it's so expensive to print you own prints between the cost of the cartridge and the photo paper. I have an Epson Photo printer that does great prints, but Epson paper is the only one that prints with out the lines or the weird colors. I can't buy any off brands or HP brands. I do have to say the paper thickness is better with the Epson brand but sometimes it's hard to find.

Personally I like the Matte paper over the high glossy...to much reflection on the glossy to me.
I always used epson ink/papers. The red lines thing was a known 'feature' with the 1290. I know what you mean about glossy, but judges always like high gloss. I've got some work to do, though. Some of my mono prints have got weird colour casts - not even consistent. Ho hum, it's been a long time.
I have a 1280...it's old but still works great. It was an expensive printer in it's day, but now it's getting to the point that the cartridges for it are not usually in stock at the stores that actually do carry the Epson print cartridges, so I have to order them and usually when I need them, it's right then...not a week later

I have repeatably tried to log in with the suggestions on here and I always go back to the same  page. I requested my account to be closed around Feb 2 or 3 and deleted my pictures. They e-mailed me and said that the account will stay open until Feb 11 and then final payout would be sent out.

No payout in paypal yet.

It would be nice if they all listed their partner sites under the reseller sales sites so you know up front who sells where.

I always did when I first started shooting digital, but then got out of the habit of it because I always think I can do it later. Even photos of the family go onto DVD, so if anyone wants copies, I just make a copy for them on the DVD. Bad habit to get into.

Here's one of the stupidest things I did when I was a kid....My brother and I use to pick up railroad ties off the railroad tracks. I had ask him "how do you tell if a train is coming?" He put his ear on the tracks and said "You can feel the vibration on the tracks" So he puts his ear down there and said there isn't anything coming...I looked up and here comes a train around the bend!!!! I screamed at him that a train was coming and we took off running down the tracks. There were fences along the tracks and we had to run quite a ways to get to where we could get off. My brother dropped his stakes and continued to run. I even stopped to pick up the stakes because I didn't want to leave them behind. I got off the tracks just in time!!

It's time for some laughs here to take our minds off..."Fotolia and MostStockPhotos"
Tell us those funny things you did when you were a kid!
I'll start by telling you my darkest secret.... ::) My mother always kept my hair cut short when I was a kid and I always wished I had long hair. I use to put panty hose on my head with the ends rolled up so it appeared I had pig tails and played with my imaginary friend which was a rag mop...since it had long hair too.
My dreams came true because I now have long hair so I no longer need those panty hose!!!!!!! At least not for my head.. ;D

Man I'll probably regret I posted this.............. :-\

We all have thousands of pictures sitting on our hard drives or saved on line. Have you ever wondered what would happen to all those photos if your hard drive crashed? I've always wondered what would happen if those backup CD's went out of style...sorta like the floppy disk or VCR's. The next generation wouldn't have access to all your photos and those memories would be lost forever. We all remember all those family albums from our childhood, laughing at the way we looked when we were little with those panty hose on our head wishing we had long hair. I'm afraid those old memories will be gone because of the digital age.

you know I got to thinking about it and as far as shutterstock is concerned you don't get any more money for a vector than you do a jpg because it's a subscription site. I think I won't bother uploading EPS files to them. I am going to do it with Dreamstime. I use to always upload my raw files with submissions but kinda got behind on that.

When you enter keywords/description/title in bridge it will fill both XMP and IPTC. I find it to be the best method. You can also batch keyword.

Ok now where do I get Bridge???

1191
At SS you can submit it along the raster version, you can have both. At the others I guess you should delete the rasters and upload the vectors.
You don't need to embed the jpeg in the eps, just export another .jpg file and you'll upload both. You should check the tiff option to none cause it will generate a huge file.
At FT and Deposit you'll need to archive both the eps and the matching jpeg in a zip.
At StockXpert you need to archive just the eps.. oh wait... sigh :-<
At the others you can upload both the .eps and .jpg and they'll be treated as one file.

Thanks that pretty well answered my question.....are you living in limbo over the death of StockXpert???? lol.  ;) As for FT I'm not planning on uploading any more to them. At least not right now. I deleted most of my files off there except for the ones that have sold.

One more question...I promise...I won't have to keyword the EPS also like I do the supporting jpg files do I???? Please tell me NO.. ;D

1192
The ones I uploaded these to were, Big Stock, Deposit Photos, Shutterstock and Dreamstime. I know with Dreamstime I can go back and upload the file, but wasn't sure how to do it with the others since the jpgs were already uploaded. Another question, how do you embed the jpg in the file...the only option it gives you is .tiff format

1193
This may be helpful. From what I've found, IPTC data that's only XMP isn't read by most sites. They do read the Legacy IPTC data. Until the sites upgrade to reading the modern file data, it appears we are stuck between "standards". Maybe someone has a better answer?

XMP Specifications (above link)

The following specifications are included in the XMP Toolkit zip package. They are available here for convenient reference.

Thanks race photo I'll go check that out.

1194
Yes it does increase your sales as it give the customer an editable option.
I know with Dreamstime you can upload the additional EPS file, but is there any way you can go back and upload the additional format in the others?

1195
EPS doesn't have IPTC data. Or atleast that's what I know. I use bridge to keyword the jpg. Bigstockphoto is the only agency that won't get the keywords from the jpg associated with the eps.

I was afraid you'd say that. I just hate wasting time keywording in another program. It lets me enter the information in Illustrator under the file info and I'm surprised it doesn't save or otherwise why have it? I uploaded to SS, DT, BS, DP and had to go in and keyword each of them separately. Took forever to do it.

General Stock Discussion / Vectors..jpg and EPS or just jpg upload
« on: February 14, 2010, 12:16 »
Does it really make any difference rather you upload the EPS files to the sites or just upload the jpg. I've only  uploaded the jpg's so far, but wondered if it really made any difference with sales to upload both?

1197
How in the world do you save the keywords and descriptions in Illustrator? I saved them, then when I uploaded the jpg to the stock sites the keywords we're there. What did I do wrong? I save the keywords under the EPS file and assumed the keywords would be saved under the jpg when saving to Web format. Any suggestions?

Bigstock.com / Re: Problem Uploading to BigStockPhoto
« on: February 14, 2010, 00:19 »
I tried to upload 10 photos today via their online uploading. They went through ok, but the thumbnails never showed up. I refreshed, I logged out and in again, I re-uploaded, no luck. Can't push them through unless they have a thumbnail.

I sure hope the site isn't on its last legs.  :(

Any ideas?
Did you ever get the thumbnails to come up? I got the same problem today. I uploaded about three hours ago and still no thumbnail, it just says "image being generated" where the thumbnail should be. Never run into that problem before. Maybe they are getting plastered with all the uploads that Fotolia isn't getting...lol

UPDATE; they must of heard me complaining because they just suddenly appeared!!!

1199
yeah it's moving fast.  I wonder if they are going to have a party when they hit 10,000,000

perhaps a raise for everyone :)

9,997,368 royalty-free stock photos
Doubt the raise part. Now if the buyers started downloading as much as the contributors are uploading ,,,,, then maybe a raise ;)

Microstockgroup Buy and Sell / Re: Flash Deals for the U.S.
« on: February 12, 2010, 16:15 »
I learned about this in the Strobist Flickr Group but did not want to share until I ordered and tested. These are OPEN BOX ITEMS. Not new but mine came in a Older looking Manuf. Box... with no Instructions. I found the manual online though. Flash itself looks brand new.

http://www.techforless.com/cgi-bin/tech4less/5316609?mv_pc=AID=109696#pd_nav

I got the Canon ETTL (They are out of the Nikon) Model of the Quantaray 900WA. Tried it out in Manual on my Nikon D60. All functions I can test...work perfectly. $36 and free Shipping in U.S.

They have a bunch of other flashes too.. but as I have noted...stay away from the PZ-1's.

I did title as "deal for the U.S." because I am not sure how much shipping to anywhere else will be. From what I have read also...Customer Service is great.
That's a dangerous site especially if you are a shopping addict..... :o
