Newbie Discussion / Re: model and property releases
« on: April 20, 2010, 12:19 »
That's good to know. That will at least get it down to just one release used by all sites. So if I understand you correctly...I am in the US, so for the country language in the second paragraph I could just change to "I agree that this release is irrevocable, worldwide and perpetual, and will be governed by the laws of the United States"?
I guess you will have to add the US state too, since laws might be different per state. IS mentions "New York".
I just had a look at the DT and SS releases, and there is no mentioning of any country of jurisdiction. So perhaps it's overkill, but the simplest way to go is follow the IS release since they are the strictest.

Today she's operating as Monkey Business and would appear to be going 100% for the the microstock RF market.
Ah it is a collection, not a group of photogs like Iofoto? I have to say honestly, scouting for images, that I came across some very mediocre images of MB (frontal flash on messy background - looking dated), especially on Cutcaster where they were consistently in front in searches (venting a rant).

A couple of years ago I remember Serban actually expressing disbelief on the forums why anybody who has a Downloads-per-image of 4 or higher wasn't uploading as many images as they could.
The new gizmo is "collages" (of similars). I want to give that a try honestly in view of the level system, but only on DT. IS hates collages.

end of the story : the only HP thing in your laptop is the HP sticker.
Plus the Western quality control, which makes all the difference.

No idea about battery life ... I use it primarily as a desktop.  Even on the road, I run it from an electrical outlet.
That's not so friendly for the battery. If you use it for a longer time on an outlet, better remove the battery. A battery anyways lasts only 2-3 years. My HP battery lasted 1.5 years. (HP Pavillion laptop).

For IS, you use exactly as it appears on their release. Then I altered to use for the other sites, BEFORE the model signs, as I may have different models. This serves as a master. Then I had my model sign 2 different releases, one for IS and one for other sites, so I have originals on file.

It's such a mess... My generic release (IS/Getty logos removed) has been accepted by all sites, included IS (of course). I just enlarged some fonts on their release and added more space for the signature. Download here (MS-word format converted from PDF).

...On the Getty/iStock release (which I use now with site logo removed) ....
You can still use this for Dreamstime? Mine got rejected.
Really? Mine got all accepted. What was the remark?
Rejection reason: "Your MR document is governed by the laws of a different country than the model's or photographer's and other than US..."
Yes, I had that too once. The country you fill in should be either (a) your own (as photographer), (b) that of the model, (c) the US+state. In my case it was a mistake of them since I filled in 'Belgium' (my official country of residence) but they couldn't read my address well (font too small, pt 7.5). They accepted the release anyways after my explanation. I changed my address now to pt. 9 which shows well on the release (I upload 1024px small side).
The reason I put in 'Belgium' (my country of residence) as jurisdiction is that in the very unlikely case of litigation, I don't want to travel to the US and I certainly don't want any case before a Filipino court.

I don't like the way DT is going. They lack the earlier relaxed atmosphere, they sell less than before and their pricing structure is so confusing that I don't even try to understand it anymore.
You are not the only one. No further comment.

New Sites - General / Re: New Israeli Microstock Site

After wasting too much upload time on that other Israeli website, Pixamba, no thanks. Unless you pay to upload.

1186
as a matter of fact they're already collections with cats, dogs, and flowers. there's no way they can compete with RM on this...
Are the snapshots, cats, dog and flowers so much better then on RM? Do they surf the whitewater on a surf plank? As long as it isn't the creature of Bichon on SS, a dog is a dog.

Lowering production cost is a wise move to achieve lately, at least for me. Since I had a budget of let say 80$ a month for stock, now I just don't shoot lol
Did medaillons become that expensive lately?  :P

1188
If they don't, then they will go back to being libraries full of flowers, cats, and travel snapshots.
My best selling photos are travel snapshots. Things went wrong when I bought lightboxes.  :P

even your hero Yuri recently admitted he's now doing 50% RM.
In another post you said 80%. What is it now? Could you please call Yuri and ask his exact numbers?  :P

I came from the macro market, and also have 50k photos at alamy, since 7-8 years.
Do you ever sleep?  :P

1191
We have three price levels like the global photo market have. Premium is macrostock (like alamy), normal is midstock (like many midprice agencys) and "discount " is our microstock area. We did this because we had the idea that costumers dont like "agency hopping". They can compare qualities and prices in one agency direct and make a mixed price calculation.
That sounds like a very sensitive approach. So what do you expect of 'premium'? That it is exclusive on your site, or can it also be on Alamy? As I understand, you don't want images already on microstock as 'premium'. What kind of images are you expecting there?

I hope Iceland comes out of this soon, it's such an awesome place.
I know a couple of people that lost a lot by their Kauphting and Icesave fraud. We would disagree they are so "awesome".

iStockPhoto.com / Re: after server problems more picky?
« on: April 16, 2010, 19:38 »
but I suspect that on a borderline image, "bad" keywords tip the scale enough to have the image rejected.
Correct. You will see images accepted that have the note "not fully relevant keywords: ...", and images rejected because of keywords. If you resubmit these with offending keywords removed, they almost always get rejected for another reason. That's something very annoying, this cascade of rejections for always different reasons, wasting upload slots.

1194
AGE sold the image, AGE should be accountable in case of ANY issues, period.
I was, of course, just teasing you. But as you mention, some RM agencies at least seem still to live in the stone age. Micro-RF at least has its clearances things right, or they would out of business soon. And what to say about the buyer? There still seems to be a lot of ignorance with (occasional?) buyers. (I just suppose the image on AGE was marked as editorial). For instance the Crystalgraphics-Bigstock case a few years back, where we found our images for 70$ on CG, when they were less than 1/10th of that price on BS. A simple Google search could have saved they buyers a lot of money.

1.30am Taiwan time.

503 error - Thanks for visiting iStockphoto.
The site is unavailable right now but we'll be up and running soon.
Yeah right. Luckily, I'll buy my 3/4 daily photos as usual from Dreamstime. Local Taipeh time 1.30am. Deadline is 2am for media assembled in India and published in Europe. Good luck iStock, you are the best. I just need a reliable service, be it with pixel distortions and rough featherings.  :P

Cool your jets. The Gallery is searchable, look at the bottom and there is a search box.
I looked for "man" and "male" there and it returned nothing, nada, wala, nichts, de rien, niks. Don't let that spoil your fun! Just trying to be helpful if you're interested in sales. For now, I just keep looking on DT to buy ;-). Time = money. Gnite.

1197
Michael said Zoonar operates just like any other microstock RF agency. That should be fine, right?
Sure that should be fine.  ;D

1198
So it's not clear who's to blame here, if AGE or another small RM agency that in the meantime has been sold or went bankrupt.
Well this a very good reason for any buyer not to buy from macro, that seems to be very sloppy with releases and clearances.
Micro is very strict about all this, and most important micro sites even offer a warranty. So why do people still buy from the dinosaur macros at overrated prices? Ignorance. Let this be a lesson. ;-)

1199
Here's the gallery link http://copamilwaukee.com/New/gallery2/main.php I used the Siriux theme.

It's not keyword-searchable and it has no cart. So what's the point? Coppermine is keyword-searchable. The third party solutions too. This just looks like a flat HTML gallery like done with good old Arles (from DigitalDutch), almost 10 years ago. I had the impression people here wanted to sell, not to show.

They also have a referral program. Maybe this is cheeky, but here is mine!
I don't care about your hagiographic referral link and whether or not you started uploading. I want an answer on the copyright transfer issue.
Since there is none after 24hrs, I guess they won't address the issue properly. If anybody wants to upload, fine. Not me.
