November is on par with last year for me.

Not many, one of the worst performing stock agencies. If you already have a large portfolio uploaded, leave it there. But it's hardly worth it if you're a newcomer.

And pay attention if you use them in any kind of commercial project. They could be stolen or created out of copyright infringed images.

Even though I would like to believe this service is working slightly better than Google Image Search or Tineye, I don't see any value other than 'feeling happy about finding your images being used'. It may stroke your ego, but the direct financial benefits are unclear if not absent. So in the long run, this service only costs you money. It would be more useful to have a tool that would allow you to find all illegal uses.

I still can't quite believe that so few people made a stand when they cut below 20%.  That was the final straw for me, all my best selling images were deactivated and I haven't uploaded anything new for years.

If Getty had the choice of paying us 30% or having no images to sell, what would they choose?  If they chose to have no images to sell, that would send buyers to sites that pay us more.  Isn't that the worst that could happen if we all decided not to put up with less than 20%?  Obviously this is different for exclusives but they don't seem to have as many of them as they used to.

Fully agree.
Typical case of Prisoner's Dilemma:

"I know we're all better off if we all leave. But if I silently stay while others leave, I will have less competition, so I am better off".

Unability to cooperate due to the theoretical possibility to gain by not cooperating...

More like Stockholm syndrome  ;D

Or iStockholm Syndrome.

October was good thanks to some video sales, but November starts off horribly. 5 sales in 10 days and 5 days in a row without a sale.

Your best bet is to export your animation as a PhotoJPEG, Animation or H.264 .mov file, or an H.264 .mp4 file. Other formats or codecs may also be supported by some agencies.

New Sites - General / Re: 500px - Kelly Thompson strikes again
« on: November 04, 2016, 09:34 »
And it stinks really bad!
I received an answer from 500px: You photos have not been deleted because you logged back into your 500px account, which re-activates it. This is the reason we inform our members we'll keep their photos safe for a little while. Once you log into your account, the 60 day deletion period is cancelled.
As a matter of fact  I didn't log back in. Because I knew 500px would pull this trick. I was asked to log back in if I wanted my earnings of this one sale of 1.80. But I definitely didn't log in to claim this money because I knew this would happen. And still they persist that I did log in. So now another two months they can earn money of chasing the people who may have stolen my images and keep the money for themselves.  I am afraid that this is their business model. Not selling photos.

You should demand some evidence if this did not happen. Either way, it's a ridiculous policy to reactivate images just because you logged in.

Refund here too. 18 cts. Istock in a nutshell: send out some horrible news and just when contributors think it couldn't get worse, throw in some refunds to make sure there's no goodwill left.

In Europe the price is 59 (or $64) for a single HD video, so I don't think it's much cheaper than in the US.

Maybe the buyer bought a big 25-pack, got a discount, so you got paid less. Was it an HD sale?

I often get $20-$23 for an HD sale. It's not the biggest return per download, but it's not too bad. Even though I think we should get at least 50% commission, like on Pond5.

Apparently they don't host the images themselves (it doesn't look like it), and they have no access to the full sized images. Since they only show thumbnails, I'd like to see them try getting customers by offering low-quality, watermarked poster prints.

hello,

after read shelma's thread about freepik, i decided to join this forum (to say my experience join as contributor in there), im new in here, and im sorry for my bad english.

And yeah, i have bad experience in there. they didnt pay me. i have about $95, maybe its just a penny to you, but for me, in my country, it can pay rents for 2 months.

i regret join freepik, and warn you not join them.
or am i wrong? or did i miss something?

$95 for two months of rent? Nice.

In my country I pay $1200 for two months of rent. And that's cheap for our rent standards.

What am i doing wrong on Pond5?

People don't go to Pond5 to buy images, they go there to buy footage and music.
Images is just something they added there but those customers are used to Shutterstock and the others.

Don't bother uploading images! Look at their home page...ONLY VIDEO advertised!
"Find inspiration by searching the largest library of royalty-free HD and 4k stock video"

Yup, even their sales stats seem to tell the same story

What is the difference between 'footage (0.07%)' and the other video (1080p/720p/4K) categories?

Image sales are rare. I'm a vector contributor and I have had a handful of vector sales, but nothing to write home about. Videos are doing much better.

I can't say what you're doing wrong. If you have sales on other agencies, it might just not be the type of pictures the Pond5 buyers are looking for.

1217
What are the fees now?

Bank Withdrawal Fee: 3.95

FX Fee: between 2.99% and 3.99%
(2.99% for exchanges between USD, GBP, EUR, CAD; up to 3.99% for other currencies)

I always thought Skrill was cheaper than Paypal (currency exchange fee of 2,5%, no withdrawal fees) but apparently that's not the case.

Adobe Stock / Re: Converting credits
« on: October 06, 2016, 17:18 »
It's always been that way you can only convert whole credits through Fotolia.
But through the Adobe side you can get the whole amount.
Don't know why - you just can.

I converted an amount with two decimals, so that's not the case. It's almost as if the system can't the number 0.00 in my account, so it has to leave that one cent.

I also synched with Adobe, perhaps I should try the new site for credit conversion next time. But if a Fotolia rep could shed some light on this issue, thanks.

When I want to convert my credits, I can't withdraw the full amount specified on the contributor page. Say the amount of earned credits is 50.01, the Convert Credits page says I can convert a maximum of 50.00 Euro. It may be only 1 cent, but why is that?

123RF / Re: How to select price tier for footage?
« on: October 05, 2016, 17:58 »
I always select v3. Already selected one is indicated in red color.

4K for $800 and HD for $330? :) Quite a crazy rich person should buy there since there are no exclusivities as far as I know.
I assume you have some sharkback riding or landing on the moon footages in 4K...
They hardly sell 10% of my Shutterstock volume even in v2 and I'll definitely choose v1 in Stocksubmitter for all further uploads.

Why undercut your sales on other sites with v1? I choose v2, because in v1 HD is priced too cheap.

v1 pricing is OK in general (65), but what comission do they take exactly, 75%?

Sorry, I meant their 4K is priced too cheap ($130). Although v2 is priced $330 (too high in my opinion), I'd still choose v2.

Pond5 / Minimum prices at Pond5
« on: October 04, 2016, 05:20 »
Received this exciting (no, really) email:

Quote
Our goal is to help you grow your business on Pond5. One of the trends weve seen recently is that some creative assets are being under-priced and can command a price greater than what they are currently listed for. We want to address that.

Starting on October 6, 2016 we will be raising the minimum price for all video assets on the site to the following:
4K / 4K+
$50 Minimum

HD / 2K
$25 Minimum

SD / WEB
$15 Minimum

Good news! Even though the minimum prices are still far from what I would ask, it's a step in the right direction. Hopefully it also teaches some contributors the value of video footage.

When I have to buy stock images, I always grow frustrated with pages of similar images (and often badly keyworded), so the biggest danger of similar crappy images is that buyers leave the site. It takes time to weed through all that crap, so SS should really do something about it, because as a buyer it puts me off.

I've read somewhere that the keywords do not necessarily reflect the purchased image. The buyer could've clicked through via another image and the search phrase wasn't used for your image.
