Yeah I think the sun and the stars don't quite go together....and yes it was an auto trace. That's the only thing I could figure out...lol

I see what you're talking about on the white....heh I got so excited I forgot to click. ;D

I think I'll take out the sun and stars...that really doesn't look to good. You think I need to leave the background yellow or do you think it would look better just white?

For those of you who don't know how to price your images when a publishing company or somone approaches you outside of microstock, here is a good link to help.

http://www.photographersindex.com/stockprice.htm

We often don't know how to price them because we are so use to the micro prices.
I've found it to be a very useful link when I have needed it.

So this is the answer... a bit weird.

Hi,
thanks for your message
I asked the Publisher and he told that he didn't have the special budget for the photo. He can pay only 100 polish zlotys its about 25 dollars
I know it's nothing....I feel really so embarrassed.... I just make third book cover for this publisher, I did't know him very well
A book is one from the set "Hellinger library": "Bringing the roots of organizations to light" Jan Jacob Stam
I attached link to materials about exactly this book
www.hellingerinstituut.nl/articles/article_03.htm
The print run of this book is ca 2.000 copies
I hope You decide to publish your photo on cover this book. For penny this time, but I make projects for others publischers too. They sometimes pay for pictures nothing, sometimes more.

sorry for my english
if you are still interest to give me permision to use your photo please send me your mail adres and I'll send you the project of the cover

best regards

should i do it?  ???
That's up to you if you feel comfortable with it. It may lead to future publishing with this publisher and it may not. But if you do it, you need to be sure to get payment up front through pay pal or similar because my experience after working with these type companies, they have a tendency not to want to pay after they get the product. I've always got payment after hounding them about it and it can get frustrating. I always put in my contract that the are to supply me with a copy of the finished work.....none have done it except 'Texas Highways' magazine. Anyway it's really up to you, its your photo....or if you want, make a counter offer ;D Just don't forget that payment up front..Good luck

StockXpert.com / Re: Last Stockxpert payout related issue
« on: February 08, 2010, 15:40 »
I'm not sure you are going to get an answer. The way I understand it, if you cancelled your account and requested payment, on Feb. 11 your account will be cancelled and they will automatically send you your last payout. You will continue to make sales until Feb. 11, even if you deleted all your images from your account.

Exactly...that's what they told me after I ask for my account to be closed and finally payout.  I have no reason to believe they would do otherwise.

1232
A friend received this (or maybe it's something StockXpert said and I missed):
Quote
If you do not want to go forward with the Thinkstock program through StockXpert, are under 50$ and want to cash out, please delete all of your images and then email our customer support team and they will submit your payment as well as close your account.

So even if I was opted out from subs (therefore, as I understood, my images would not migrate), do I hve to delete them from StockXpert before asking for my last payout?

They also said:
Quote
StockXpert is not shutting down. Your images have been migrated to Thinstock but you will still use StockXpert as your main account for those images and sales.
???
Madelaide...I just e-mailed support and ask them if I could close my account and receive my payout, even though it was below $50.00. They e-mailed me back and said they would close the account on Feb 11..or 12..don't remember exactly, but then they would send me my payment in case any more royalties were earned before that date.

As a non-USA resident and living in a country with no treaty, I'm being cut in 30% of USA sales.  If the 29% is not correct, can the 30% be wrong too?  I find it a very high tax given that I don't benefit from any cent of it.

Me too!

Do either of you have to file a US tax return? That's what I don't quite get about all this. I am a US citizan and therefore subject to withholding, but if they are withholding taxes...especially if they are withholding Social Security and Medicaid from your earnings, because if I'm not mistaken those two items can only be drawn if you have a SS# and are a US citizen. Have either of you gotten any payouts from them for the new year and if you have, does it show what the taxes are for...such as percentage of Fed tax, SS or Medicaid? I don't understand the 30% tax.

All I know is they have created a huge mess with their "mistake" by posting those credits on the contributors accounts and they are going to have a very hard time cleaning it up and they better get started before the garbage starts to rot and stink!!

They are sorta like shutterstock in that aspect because I don't believe they review on weekends.

Not so.  I'm getting Shutterstock reviews on the weekends.  Heck, I've had two batches reviewed this weekend already.
That's strange...I never get anything reviewed over a weekend and don't usually get any sales either. maybe I just submit them at the wrong time. Oh well... ;)

gostwyck, I suggest another poll to go with this: how much % of ours sales are from USA.  Unfortunately the two numbers are not comparable, but it will possibly show an interesting trend.

39 out of last 300 sales for me so 13% of my sales
How do you tell if your sells are coming from the US or another country?

They were very quick with their review times at first but now I find they take 6 or 7 days. It depends rather you upload close to the weekends. They are sorta like shutterstock in that aspect because I don't believe they review on weekends.

Donna, if you are in the US, the easiest thing to do is provide your tax ID to them and then they won't withhold any taxes.
I know but I didn't do it and the withholding tax they would withhold would only be a few cents, which isn't a big deal to me, but those who aren't even aware what they are doing would be effected. I am going to fill it out, but I plan on dropping them anyway and won't get the money so it really doesn't matter to me. Do you know of anyone that they are withholding taxes from that has gotten a payout from them since the first of the year. How do they show what was withheld and how much of it was Federal, social security and medicare. Last year they didn't withhold taxes but sent me a 1099. Did they not do this last year? I guess what is bothering me is the principle behind it and rather they are doing it legally. The way they are doing business it really makes me wonder if they are doing it legally. Oh and I am a US citizen. I wish I knew someone who worked for the IRS to find out, if for nothing else than to find out if they are doing it legally or not.

Ok here's the deal. All employee's subject to withholding tax must fill out a form W-4. This form is to show withholding allowances. Employers are suppose to have copies of these. Now as for social security and medicaid...THIS IS FROM 2007 Circular E Employers Tax Guide, not 2010, but I doubt anything has changed. As an employer they are to withhold 6.2% social security and 1.45% medicaid tax from their employee's check. They are to pay the same percentage as the above, which is 12.4% social security and 2.9% medicare, which is a total of 15.3% which only half of that amount can be withheld from the employees check which would equal 7.65% holding from their check. Now I am going to contact support to find out where they are coming up with the extra 20.35% without having that W-4 form, which thay are suppose to have on file in case of an audit from the IRS.

I'm going to try to check with an IRS employer guide line of withholding taxes to see if their 28% is the correct amount. If they are withholding taxes there is suppose to be a form filled out by the employee that shows rather they are married and how many exemptions they want withheld. Also if your salary is less than a certain amount there should be no Federal withholding taxes withheld depending on the exemptions and rather you are married filing jointly or separate or married filing separate, ect. ect. . They would still be required to withhold medicare and social security. I believe it is required for the employer to get one of these forms before withholding. The W-9 is for a tax ID number, not the form that is required to determine withholding taxes. I can't remember the name of the form right off the top of my head but I'm going to find out.

Since the Thinkstock change the Referral Balance has Gone at StockXpert.

Its money earned, that seems to have been lost? stolen? hidden? forgotten?

I'm still waiting for a reply from support.
That is a good point. I personally have no referrals on StockXpert, but that is a question that would need to be answered.

Adobe Stock / Witholding taxes on Income with Fotolia
« on: February 07, 2010, 09:38 »
I was just noticing that Fotolia is withholding taxes at 28% on my income. Now income taxes should only be withheld when the check is issued. Now if they are withholding taxes now....and you can't cash out unless you have earned the fifty and in the US you have to pay the withholding taxes to the IRS every quarter. I know this from being in business as a corp. several years ago. So if we can't cash out and they are paying this taxes to the IRS...that could be a problem. How are they going to issue W-2's at the end of the year on income you never received if they have been paying this tax to the IRS but not paying us. Does that make sense. In other words they should not be claiming they are withholding taxes untill we actually receive the money.

Any thoughts on this?

I agree..that reponse to madelaide from them was double talk, I read that over and over.

"For example, contributors still earn 1 credit to the dollar for bulk consumer purchases that put credits at $0.75."

How can $1.00 equal  1 credit which puts that credit at .75 cents. That doesn't even make sense.

With that quote I believe they were saying how generous they are.  When they sell credits for $0.75/credit, they still give us commissions as though the credits were sold at $1.00 - so we get our % of $1.00, not $0.75 - if that makes any more sense.  The same sort of difference as when they sell credits for $1.20 and we only get commissions on $1.00, except the other way around.
Thanks for explaining that. So they are still going to pay a percentage of $1.00 rather they sell it for .75 cents or 1.20, except they won't be sellin the .75 cent one anymore and only the 1.20 ones. Am I understanding that right?

It seems like they're determined to break, once and for all, any direct link between what a buyer pays for an image, and what the photographer gets. They want to run all sorts of pricing and subscription games with buyers,  while payments to contributors stay the same.

You get what you get, and don't bother trying to figure out whether it's correct, because they're won't be any "correct".

So why don't they just make it explicit, and say - here is what we pay for a photo when it sells, you don't know what we got from the buyer, and you don't need to know.  It's not a "commission" system any more, you're just a supplier producing a product, and here's what we'll pay for it, per unit sold.

That's a scary thought.

It is a shame they have categories, that slows things down.  The worst problem I find is that a lot of my titles are too long, that really does waste my time editing those.
Not only that. If either title or description contain quotes (like "fishermen's boat"), the title and/or description will be reported as too long.
Then, 160 characters for the description is really too short. Most of mine are truncated. I settled for the 220 limit on SS.
Finally, the title is taken from the IPTC field "object name", as most sites (except SS) do, but if there is something in the IPTC field "headline", it takes precedence. That's very annoying for me since no site uses that field, and I use it to put in the model's name. I have to replace manually the title of all images with a model. I wish they sticked at least to de facto rules of IPTC usage and size of the other sites.
Have you tryed customer support about it? Kelly is very helpful and would proubably be open to suggestions about any problems you are having with the site.

This is kinda cool. The Country Girl got Todays Best on Zazzle. On the Main Zazzle Page.. it's the second item under "Todays Best"( Edie: I guess it moves around, not in the same spot now). I cleaned up the design a little and added the fence.

I don't know if this helps anyone.

I asked FT:

Hi

I have noticed that the grey box to the left of my contributor account page no longer contains the credit value of which I will my commission is based. Has this changed and will it be displayed in the future? Thanks

FT Replied:

Thank you for your e-mail.

We are currently updating our website. I was told that we will won't display that anymore.

Kind regards,

Fotolia Team U.K.

I asked FT a further question beceause the first reply didn't realy answere the question:

Hi

Thanks for the prompt reply. As the current credit value is no longer displayed in the grey box, please could you let me know where I can find this information. Is the current credit value for contributors commission still 0.75 and will it be changing in the near future. Thanks.

FT Replied:

Thank you for your e-mail. The current value for contributors is the same - 0.75, it never changed so far. I am not certain about any future plans.

Kind regards,

Fotolia Team U.K.

So there you have it, make of it what you will. I still don't know where on the site I can find out how to calculate my commission, does anyone?

Wow..if that ain't a slap in the face I don't know what is!! How the H*** are we suppose to know if they are paying us the correct amount or not...
