General Stock Discussion / Re: Bad problem uploading since Capture NX« on: March 10, 2008, 04:33 »I do my RAW editing with Capture, save as tiff for the PhotoShop work and then save as JPEG. I've never had any problems. They've fairly recently upgraded to v1.3, which fixed a LOT of problems - in case you don't have the most current upgrade.Yap that's how I do it too. For some shots with HDR I sometimes do a second (and third) development of the raw > tiff with under- and over-exposure to recover blown-out highlights or detail some shadows. I then do some selective erase. Many people don't seem to know that a raw has more dynamic info than a tiff. 1234
LuckyOliver.com / Re: Double Standards!« on: March 10, 2008, 04:27 »Seems I was the bad reviewer, for me an isolation has to follow the following standard: "When key wording/ describing an image as "isolated" and/ or "isolation" it has to be on a pure white (#FFFFFF) or other uniform background without any stray pixel and with well defined edges, so that a buyer can just cut&paste it with a few clicks." If the image in question doesn't comply with this standard I will reject it.Agreed 200%. But the OP has a point. I bought two images once on LO (with my free credits) that were "isolated" and when I tried the 1-click, it showed squares with near-white all over. I had to redo the isolation myself. I placed a comment on those shots at LO but they were still there when I looked last. Not even an apology of the contributors. Two years ago I bought some isolated stuff from Andresr on CanStockPhoto and those shots were perfectly isolated. If I were a full-time designer, I would bear in mind that LO isn't good for buying isolations, and CanStockPhoto is. LO should clean out those early shots. 1235

bnpsworldwide.com has a traffic rank of: 3,714,731 (Alexa) [that's bad]
The maximum allowed file size is 5 MB Minimum payout limit currently it is $ 100. They had a bad SEO adviser that put them on Affiliatescout.com and build-reciprocal-links.com, and despite of that, they have a Google PR of 3, the same as my own domain. They don't even exploit the keywords metatag on their landing page (iofoto.com also forgot that). I had this thing last year but never managed to install it since Nikon knows how to make cams but their software sucks. I got a new laptop a couple of weeks ago and no way to escape Vista. Do you understand what this means? There is NO WAY to raise your acceptance rate without more uploading and you have just been banned (forever?) from further uploading. Wrong. General Stock Discussion / Re: Warning microstockers Tough crowd in the forums over at Photoshelter.« on: March 07, 2008, 14:19 »1. Would you please tell me what is the best type of camera to use to get professional pictures. I can afford up to maybe $200 for a camera, since I figure my sales here will pay for it.Personally I would advise you to stay away from DSLRs. They attract sensor dust and the mechanical click always give some motion blurr. Hey, this is the electronics age anyways! We don't use valve and cogwheel powered computers any more too, right? Also, mechanical shutters only have 100,000 life cycles and since stock is a numbers game, you will need many more than 100,000 to get a decent living out of stock. DSLRs are also very bulky. A nice slim point and shoot that fits in your trousers is great to make covert shots of people in public places. After all, you can use Photoshop (CS3 premium extended with Signature Plugin) to create the proper Model Releases. Just one caveat though. Don't name them all John Doe, but be creative! Joe Down, Josh Does or John Cow. Cows sell very well actually. Hope this helps! 1241

Zymmetrical.com / Re: If I only have one approved...« on: March 07, 2008, 09:44 »There is no 20 keyword limit. We read the first 40 IPTC keywords, and edit them as necessary. Ah! This is vital info that should be on-site IMHO. That means for instance that if you order your kwds alphabetically and it's a waterfall, and you have 50 kwds, the "waterfall" won't even be read on ZYM. I must be perceived as a missionary by some but sorting keywords in order of relevance in your IPTC is the way to go. More sites will do it sooner or later. 1244
Zymmetrical.com / Re: If I only have one approved...« on: March 07, 2008, 09:30 »Does that mean I'm in, as accepted?? I mean I have my account and all, and one did get approved. I have like 55 in wait.Well things like that can happen. There is no software that I know of that let you look at your shots on your disk in a synoptic table with title/description/keywords before upload. The Vista explorer lets you do it but only for title and with add-ons also description and keywords - but it's all in 1 row. What I advise you is to upload all to FeaturePics only first, which is very fast, and where you can then crawl thru your shots one by one and scrutinize the actual IPTC info like it was accepted. Correct typos and even gross mistakes in the IPTC on your disk then. Then erase the shots on FP and reupload, and reupload to anybody else after that. There are many sites that put restrictions on title/descr/keywds changes even in pre-acceptance mode as the title for instance is part of the url. Better be sure before you upload to Zymmetrical and the like. 1245
Off Topic / Re: how long online on this forum?« on: March 07, 2008, 09:13 »
Time online doesn't say much. If you check "stay online always" and you leave a tabbed browser window open on some MSG window, your time keeps adding, even if you don't actually look for days.
The MSG has a rank now on Alexa far beyond some stock agencies like SnapshotCottages, 101,000 or so. 1246

General Stock Discussion / Re: my personal web site for promotion« on: March 07, 2008, 07:56 »
I agree about the simple lean and mean fast landing page. Always keep the 2 or 5 seconds rule in mind: visitors click away after 2-5 sec when the page doesn't load fast and when basic info is obscured on screen #1. So avoid anything Flash or Slideshow or whatever.
After catching attention, interested visitors will digg deeper, so avoid to have too much info on the landing page. You can layer it down on more specific pages. Iofoto.com is a great example. I agree with the previous posters that you should make all thumbs clickable to sales pages. Except for random images in the sidebars, all my thumbs on FlemishDreams are clickable to a sales page where I get most and that is non-subscription. 1248
Mostphotos.com / Re: Who has had sales at MostPhotos?« on: March 06, 2008, 07:10 »I've only got aprox 125 images, no DL's, lots of "views", but once the image falls off the radar, the views decrease dramatically (due to the inane "rating" system). As LO found out, views doesn't mean sales. You have the Flickrish "market" and the Buyers market and those apparently aren't the same. I hardly comment or rate, and the 2 images sold were typical cold "boring" plastic stock like a business couple on a computer and a model concept shot, both isolated. One got a rating of 6, the other one had no rating at all. I guess the keywords still do their job for buyers. There are some stunning highly rated landscapes etc... on MP, but what sells, like everywhere are the neutral usable things, like the stick-it photo of Leaf. I don't think a buyer is going the be impressed by the community rating if he finds the right image down the list. 1249

My D200 only shoots 10MP. 1250
Zymmetrical.com / Re: Questions on Uploads...« on: March 05, 2008, 19:40 »Review time is based on keywords. Images with keywords get reviewed much faster than those without.I can't imagine anybody spending an hour to postprocess an image and then not keyword it properly. Keywords are the key to sales for a photographer like SEO is to a site. I can imagine the confusion of PixArt though. After FTP upload, the images seem to disappear in Le Grand Nant (the great void) and no way to see on the site (unless I missed it) whether all of the IPTC was imported properly. Some sites had problems with keyword separators for instance, and the only way to find out is if you could see the actual imported title/description/keywords. |
