It seems that most sites have some sort of 'popularity' worked into the best match, where the more a file is downloaded the higher it gets in the best match. This is at least true for Shutterstock, if nowhere else.
Since sales decrease significantly during Christmas, it seems like we would be doing our images a disservice by uploading them while sales are slow. They risk not being seen and slipping into the 'unpopular 4,000,000 image club'
So when are you going to stop uploading? I may stop this week.. perhaps I will watch my sales and see when they drop off, but the previous years it had started to drop drastically staring around the 10th.
What sites do you think are factoring popularity in? Surely SS, I might say IS as well. About DT, I'm not sure: it looks to me like new images have some kind of penalty, so I would still upload to DT during Xmas. Can anyone confirm this speculation or dismiss it?

I can not see anywhere in the statement : Can you still become exclusive with 250 downloads or is it 500 now? Because, if it is 500 downloads now, a lot of newbies will give up of this idea and start uploading to all other sites. And once they reach 500 dls, it will be harder to decide to become exclusive because they have to go through all this hard work of deleting pictures from other sites.
It is 250 now, but 500 after the Feb change. It's been stated several times on that 1000+ post thread.
Nice one, just when I was getting close to 250 after more than a year IS is incredibly slow for me. They dont like me. But I like them somehow...

Oh come on Lisa, Big hair was cool I had an afro in the seventies. I was so skinny I looked like a giant dandelion.
Cheers, J
Screenshot or it didn't happen I was cuddly and cute in my cradle in the seventies... I have photographic proofs.

Yeah smugmug looks good. Pretty similar to Zenfolio, but $150 is a little steep for just one event that I may or may not make any money from. Zenfolio is $100/year but even that is pushing it. I am not making any profit on the wedding (it was for family) so I don't really want to have a lot of expenses.
There is around a promotion code to save 50% on the yearly fee. I used it and it works. Cant remember where I got it from though.

November, 2009: $8.27 royalties I only sell 2-5 years old crap there. Although I have a good acceptance ratio on my newest images, they simply don't sell. They fall right into oblivion in the search engine after acceptance. So for November, even StockXpert made me more. Istock is great, but we obviously don't match.
Same for me, I like them, very professional, I like the reviews... It just doesbt sell my stuff, not that I ever claimed it was worth to be sold

Around 500 images online. My stats still fluctuate a lot so they are not too reliable.

Any other espresso enthusiasts here? Anyone with a home machine.. looking for a little espresso discussion to distract me from editing pictures
-- yes i know this is off topic. If you don't like such topics please ignore the off topics board in Profile > Ignore Board Preferences
There's no life without Espresso, italian, very concentrated, creamy, espresso I even went along to bring a proper italian espresso machine from Italy to UK by plane. I'm addicted. But here's the result: Yummi! (Bear with me, it's one of the first stock images I've ever produced )

The theory of customers getting refunds if they find the same images on the micros makes sense. Nothing wrong with that if they want to shop around.
In my limited experience (6 months at Alamy), I have had 37 sales of images that are also on the micros and never had a refund issued.
Infact as you already said Alamy RF license is similar to an EL license on Micro, so a buyer looking for that kind of license wouldn't find it much cheaper on Micro and just stick with Alamy.

Refusals are extremely diverse from one image to the other, from one contributor to the next. We realize that and we provide a response to each and every reasonable email we receive about refusals. We can stay and talk the whole day about refusals, but generic conversations will not help you. Simply reply to the refusal email, state why do you feel the image is good and you will receive a second review and/or additional explanation. Can't get any more simple than that, honestly.
This works pretty well: I often ask for a description of the problem when I can't get it my self and the response never failed to arrive. I've learnt a lot through this, in fact my AR has been raising to above 70% steadily (roughly 90% in the last three months). Excellent tool.

This is an old thread, I made that post in October last year but recently DT started rejecting more. I have stopped uploading for now, there are lots of other sites that are quicker to upload to that sell my photos, so if DT don't want them, I don't mind.
Sorry, I never look at the date I don't know, I like DT, a lot. But I'm seriously considering exclusivity for the future (when I become at least decent at this) and DT is no more an option. Mainly cause of the inconsistencies and the recent royalty changes. But I still like DT a lot.

I find the reviews with DT are good. My acceptance ratio is 84%. Is was much lower, so either I have improved or they are less fussy than they were in the past. Do we get anywhere complaining about the reviewers? I prefer to spend my time taking more photos. If some of mine are rejected, I try and improve my next submission.
I'm finding DT reviews inconsistent, not good or bad, just inconsistent these days. I have about 70% AR (90+ in the last three months) and I had a batch of seven images rejected for ... poor lighting. On that kind of stuff I have a pretty straightforward workflow now, so I know lighting is not poor in this case. More so cause I'm being very selective lately (thus the better AR). Also, poor contrast on a silhouette just rings me a bell. The bell is that I met Attila the reviewer and this guy just totally didn't pay attention. I'll probably resubmit a couple of those. If I get a completely illogical rejection, I can't improve cause I don't know what to fix and it's annoying. On the other hand they surely got tighter in the last year, which is something I like cause it gave me a push to improve.

"I will say that it takes into account historical up days, down days, holidays, weekend stats, site specific stats and more."
Are we to assume that you are basing these extrapolations on your own historical data? Just curious... Seems like there's all kind of differences between your data and other people's data if that is true...
If I understood correctly it's not only his data. Anyway, if the pool is large and diversified enough, statistically the differences can fall well within 5% error margin that is cited on the site.

What is your disaster recovery plan for your data, if your kit was destroyed or stolen?
I backup my images at work, at home in Germany and in UK, and off site again on my brother's home server in Italy. Even in case Germany is polverised, I still have a copy of the RAW files in Italy and UK
