Dissolve, feel free to price my clips at $49...when you're giving me 100% commissions. Isn't your company offering any type of unique selling proposition to the market that justifies higher pricing than some other agencies?
I got burned by your $5 clip pricing once before. I started contributing again once I thought you'd finally figured out who you were as an agency. It's sounding like burn round two is coming. Shame on me.

Just got word on the forum that 4k is not at a different price point then HD! It is the same as now. They said they would not get into a price war but they just did for video! They are undercutting SS and most other places now!
All the more reason not to upload video to iStock. Especially for non-exclusives. Getty video is in the 175-575 dollar range, 4k and HD is $575.
That may be the list price on the website but more often than not the actual sale price is MUCH lower!

Envato's been hit with several DDOS attacks over the last week causing problems with their website and ftp. I did manage to upload via ftp yesterday and it worked for me but I'm not sure if it's entirely stable yet.

Well I think hes saying that's why for May he had lots of sales but none for June? As the free downloads needed to be used by the end of May. So for many people they may have thought WOW Videoblocks is great - but in reality they were free downloads and since they've been taken away all the sales are gone. That's how I read it anyway.
.
This is exactly what I was trying (but apparently failing) to say I'm not saying this is a fact but it's what I'm thinking based on my own experience.

I'm not saying they gave our work away for free without paying us. If I remember correctly, they gave every subscriber a free download but they paid us full price for the download.

Hmm...after 6 sales in May I got a big fat zero sales in June. I recall reading where they were going to give all their current subscribers a free marketplace download. I kinda figured that was where my May sales came from and if so, that would explain why June sales dried up for me.

I am exclusive and I have been with Getty Images for years. This is not a SEO problem, rather it is a CEO problem. You can't keep sh!tt!ng on the talent and expect positive long term results. Without a doubt the competition has brought the industry to new lows, but you combine this with reckless abandon and total disrespect to your contributors and buyers, people will leave you either as a contributor or a buyer. Mr. CEO you and your arrogant ego blew Getty Images, not the competition or Google search. You needed us more than you thought.
Wish I could give this 1,000 +'s! They dumped on all their talent and still don't get it!

I've been selling footage direct using Photodeck for about a year now. In the beginning I seemed to gain some traction with pretty good ranking of my videos in google and got some sales as a result. Now, however, I'm having a hard time finding videos from my site when searching for them in google and my traffic and sales have dried up.
While I'm happy with Photodeck overall, it's about time I pulled the plug on this as a failed experiment. I seem to just be wasting money every month now. I still like the idea of selling video direct but it has to pay for itself and with the huge storage and bandwidth requirements of footage it just doesn't seem very feasible.

I've had sales the last 6 months (basically since the month after I started uploading there). No report yet this month. But two times this year the sales report hasn't come until the 20th/21st, so I wouldn't worry yet.
Thanks ruchos, thats good to know!

I'm relatively new at Dissolve. I received my first sales report last month. I haven't received a report this month thus far.

Someone's still uploading non-exclusive clips to istock?

I gotta say with all due respect...I think you're getting ripped off. You should be making around $20 minimum for an HD download. I chose to stay away from VideoHive and other lowballers like them a long time ago.
Assuming you have a decent quality portfolio, I'd advise you to drop those losers altogether and submit to some of the places you mentioned. You'll make more money and not be contributing to the decline in the stock industry!

I've had a couple thousand videos on Alamy since they started with video several years ago. I think I've sold 2 in all that time. Not selling and not worth your time anyway.

SS/Bigstock, this is a BAD direction to go.
You have a lot of goodwill with video contributors but this is the first step towards destroying that. And it's a BIG step! Please reconsider.

On many occasions I have had video files finally sell once after being online for 5yrs. They sell because they meet the need the buyer has and they sell for $69 or $79 dollars. If I had lowered the price to $10 they most likely still would have only sold once in 5yrs as obviously they aren't in high demand clips. Even if sales picked up a bit, at $10, I'd have to sell it 7 times to equal the one sale at the higher price. Not likely.
In the past, I too tried lowering prices on clips that hadn't sold and in the end determined that clips sold when they found their buyer and price wasn't a factor. I was just loosing out financially and wasting time trying to decide what price point was best.
On other occasions, I've found my sales increased when I raised the prices on P5.
Here's something else that's been on my mind. When SS started offering 4K and set the price at $299 a clip, they gave us a gift by allowing video artists to sell at a good rate of return. I can see by looking at Pond5 and their forum that many producers have already decided that those prices are too high and are offering 4K at much lower price points.
Many people in this industry have been trained by the micros to compete on price. What a shame. That's Deposit Photo or 123RF kind of thinking.

What's the USP?
I think GDI would say their USP is a one-stop shop for everything photo, video, audio, vector related, all the way from microstock to RM under one roof. Getty is the only one that even kind of does that. They may own businesses in all of those segments but they're accessed from different sites except for the super secret getty360.

You might be able to check things out but I can't - no invite. Here's the explanatory text:
"Access to this site is by invitation only. Invitations have only been sent to potential contributors to GDI and potential agency partners, as well as members of the press.
If you have not received an invitation and feel that you may qualify, please contact us via the Contact Us link. Access will only be granted to individuals and organizations who qualify.
I did receive an invite as I had a distant previous relationship with one of Photoshots agencies. Sorry, I did not realize that the page I linked to was invite only. Jim Pickerell wrote a story yesterday about the agency that can be accessed here if you are a member: http://www.selling-stock.com/Article/gdi-new-publicly-traded-stock-photo-company. Otherwise I guess you have to contact GDI first to request an invite.

I'm surprised I haven't seen any discussion of this already. GDI Media is a new company being put together by Charles Taylor and his existing agency Photoshot. He is bringing together smaller, established, specialist RM editorial agencies as well as individual contributors to create an agency to compete with the big players. The goal is to create a one-stop shop agency where RM, RF and Microstock are all available under one roof. This includes photos, video, audio and vectors. They are planning for Microstock to be the largest revenue generator. The big thing here is that both the individual agencies and individual contributors will be able to purchase shares in the company and have an ownership stake. The company will be listed on the AIM stock exchange in the UK. You can check it out here: http://signup.gdi.mediaOnce you are signed up and approved you will receive a 28 page business plan with the details. It's quite affordable to purchase shares and there are some benefits for doing so early on. This is the kind of business plan I've been waiting for a long time. Don't know if it will work but something has to be done to improve the conditions for suppliers in this industry. I'll be interested to hear what others think!

An HD video at istock is selling for $48-65 depending on credit pack. So no, they are undercutting SS pricing and paying us less.....WAY less.
Dangerous precedent for both low pricing and low commission. That's a good reason to remove videos.

They've had some issues but they ARE responsive to support emails and in my experience have always held to they're word.

This looks like typical iSpeak. If I've read the whole email through once and the details aren't clear then I know whatever it means it isn't good for me.

I've had a few occasions recently where I've needed to buy stock photos. I went to all the usual suspects (IS, SS 123rf, etc.) but was frustrated. As an occasional image buyer I didn't want to buy a subscription or pay for credits I didn't need.
I found the image I wanted on P5 and bought it easily and for a reasonable price. I couldn't do that elsewhere. If P5 could keep that simplicity for smaller buyers and add image packs at bigger discounts for larger buyers, I think they'd have a win.

I just found out about and downloaded this software called Backup Beast today for myself and it seems perfect for photographer and videographers. They are offering 500GB of lifetime file backups for one payment of $10. The program automatically backs up whatever folders you want on your computer to the cloud. I've looked into doing back up on dropbox like this but they charge $499 a year! I duplicate everything on multiple hard drives but I've always been concerned because I didn't have an offsite location to store any of the drives. I actually got the upgrade and got the unlimited storage option for around $70. This is not an annual fee just a one time payment. I think they're launching to the public in a day or two and the price goes up. Anyway, you can check out what they're offering if interested http://jvz5.com/c/47990/110359 Backup Beast +500 GB (so you're aware this is an affiliate link).
