Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock & Model Release Dates
« on: December 29, 2009, 00:10 »
I just received this rejection for an image uploaded to Shutterstock:

"please include a date on model release of photo shoot"

Since when is this required for Shutterstock?  Anyone else seeing this problem?

Seems like if you designed your own car or motorcycle (vector or 3D rendering) all you have to do is fill out your own property release allowing yourself to use the image.  If it doesn't look too much like a Ford or something then you have every right to sell the image.  Not something those of us who take photos can do (unless we also moonlight as car designers/builders).

Are the deleted files "editorial"?  I have a few images featuring cars from a few years back but they're all marked editorial.  So far they haven't been deleted.

Alamy.com / Re: I want to join ALAMY, but it is exclusive?
« on: September 30, 2009, 19:08 »
I've been thinking about starting to submit to Almay as well and it has been my intention to upload files there that I don't have on the micro sites.  However, I was thinking I might upload files to Almay that come from a series that I uploaded to the micros.  My intent would be to use the best photo from the series for Almay and send the rest to the micros.

So, although the exact image offered on Almay wouldn't be available cheap from a micro site, very similar files might be.

Does this sound like a reasonable strategy to those that have experience in this area?

General Stock Discussion / Property release for Mormon Temples?
« on: August 29, 2009, 17:35 »
I've photographed a few Mormon temples over the years and had no problems putting them on various micro sites.  One reviewer rejected a photo of the Salt Lake City temple which their database already has by the hundreds  (mine is special of course  ;) ) asking if a property release is required.  Notice the reviewer didn't state that a property release was required--they asked.

So does anyone know if Mormon temples require property releases?  There's thousands of them out there on the micro sites.  If not, anyone know how best to justify one to suspicious reviewers?

Mostphotos.com / Re: Mail contact from buyer ?? Legit or not ?
« on: August 14, 2009, 22:35 »
That one sounds fishy, all right.

However, I did get a buyer contact last year.  A buyer wanted more photos of a particular subject they saw on one of the microstock sites, googled my name and found my website which they used to contact me.  After exchaning a few emails, they purchased additional photos in the same series that were not available in the microstock portfolio.   Then, they contracted me to do some custom shooting too.  Altogether I ended up making over $2000 from that one contact.  It's happened two other times (but not for so much money).  So it does happen.

I have had three or four images of two different models in swimsuits rejected by IS.  The rejections said that the fabric and design of the clothing needed a release from the maker.  Of course that's impossible.

No one else has rejected these or any similar photos so who knows?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Did IE 8 Break istock?

I did try compatibility mode.  It didn't help with istock although it did help with some others.

I'll try the cookie and temp file clearing and see if that helps.

Switching is not really an option.  I have other sites that I need to access that don't work well with Firefox.

Right now I'm using two browsers and that's a pain.

iStockPhoto.com / Did IE 8 Break istock?
« on: June 07, 2009, 11:52 »
I upgraded to Internet Explorer 8 (under Vista) and now can't access istock.  It won't let me navigate from the login page to anywhere else.  Everything still works fine under Mozilla but I can't switch because I have other sites I need to work on that work with IE that don't work with Mozilla.

Anyone else having this problem?
