byron dont listen to rinder the old fool, he has no real interest in your portfolio all he wants to do is knock you down and trash all over you and he'lll come up with a 50 year old story how he's been around since the 1800s shooting with magnesium flashes etc and that he makes 100k for a single photo yet he is still here selling images for 10 cent on shutterstock. he still has over 7000 images there and adding which makes him a hypocrite as well.
no one is allowed a different opinion from the masses up here, if you have you'll get trashed, mocked, insulted and patronised, just see the comment from martha as an example and she is supposed to be a sweet old lady
If you sell photos for .10$ you are a fool. That's it.

And why the boycott? I have about 100 photos there, I sometimes get royalties. There have never been any problems.
And we really believe you. 100 photos and you get royalties.

I tried once and was rejected. Will not try again and I don't feel the urge to be somewhere where I'm not welcome. They will simply not have my work and that's fine.

In 2016 "Josephine" was in the micro stock business either 3 years or 5 years, depending on what she felt like claiming that day. Then in 2017 she was in 5 years again. Then in 2018 anyone who'd been in the business for 7 years was old and out of new ideas, even though if, in 2016, she'd actually been in the business for 5 years, by 2018 she would have been in the business 7 years and would have been old and out of new ideas herself, by her reckoning.
Now she's making more money with a royalty cut. Or is it less money? Three times more, five times more, three times less, five times less? Seven times more or less when she runs out of ideas? Who knows.
October 11, 2016, 13:35 I am very lucky. I am in the business since three years.
November 27, 2016, 11:18 I make a living on micros since 5 years.
May 10, 2017, 13:07 sorry to tell you, the sales are great since a couple of months, the sales are getting better and better. I am with them since 5 years.
April 23, 2018, 11:31 old are those, who are in the Microstock business for more than 7 years. They ran out of new ideas. And they remember the golden days.
Maybe she have a split personality or dissociative identity disorder?

Only you know the answer. For me, I know I don't care for others. Why? Because I've learned over the years carrying for others makes you suffer. I wish all contributors keep uploading to SS and I wish all of them eventually get 0.01$ for a photo. Or even less. Maybe some day contributor will need to pay to be on SS? Maybe. Or maybe it'll be free like on Pexels. You can't change the world, you can only change yourself. That's why I deleted all videos and photos. I have something that is worth more then money: self esteem. I will NOT sell a video for 0,50$ with a camera worth 6000$. No way. That's why when Adobe decides to go on the same path as SS I'm out of Adobe. When Pond5 decide the same I'm out. There are other things to do in life than spend 10-15 minutes typing tags for 10 cents. All of you who are still at SS: just stay there, so Oringer will get a few more millions in his pocket with your help and a mindset of a low paying worker.
bUt I neEd tO PuT foOd oN tHe TabLe. What you will soon be doing is either selling your gear or changing focus to others things to do if this trend in microstock keeps up. Devaluement of our work means we earn less money, we upgrade less gear, we travel less and we have less motivation. How you people think selling for a few bucks is still better than nothing is beyond me. No self respecting professional would say something so foolish. I wonder what dentists would say if their services were suddenly undercut to a fraction. Well here's a newsflash: they would stop working until they get their money back.

I afford you. As long as you have clips on SS then just sell for that price. Good job!

Downvote him.
I down voted then reported the video as false information.
I did the same!

I don't have any rejections. Acceptance is 100%. How, you may ask? Well, no uploads to Shutterstock solved all the problems.
Funny answer for a guy who left this comment on April 9 ...troll alert :

SS rejections are beyond my understanding of common sense. I uploaded some clips with graffiti on wall and put them under editorial. They got rejected with Not Editorial: Clip does not fall under one of our acceptable editorial categories or it may have been incorrectly tagged as editorial.. Then I resubmit clips and mark them as commercial. They got rejected because: Missing Artwork Property Release. Then I tried the third time, again under editorial and guess what, rejected because Not Editorial. Now let's see what will happened the forth time. And fifth time. And I don't think this is the work of AI, I would say there are some naive or greedy humans involved. And I hope SS goes down.
My post was deleted. I was uploading to SS but I stopped. Admin is this ok with you?

Videohive is a joke. $11 (or less) for a 3D render? Yeah right, one week of rendering and you can earn pennies? No way, I'll stay with Adobe.
Then don't sell them at $11 then, sell them at the same as Adobe... or more. And even if you were to sell them at $11, you'd probably make it up in volume. I make more on VideoHive than any other agency, even with lower prices. While it's nice to get a high royalty per download... I'm much less concerned with how much I earn per download, than I am how much I have in my bank at the end of the month.
Here, you can easily understand where the race to the bottom begin...
Exactly! It is the same when people criticize their government. They are their government, they choose it, they vote for it. Same with stock market, if we, the content creators are ok with dumping prices then we deserve it. I do wonder who's going to pay for all that expensive equipment, actors, lights, etc. This industry is becoming less viable for high end content with every passing day. So what can I say, welcome to the bottom and mediocre clips since even creators from poorer countries won't see the point in this.

I'm working in Cinema 4D. Rendering time with Octane render is a bit faster than directly in C4D, but it takes around 10 minutes for one frame in FullHD. 4K takes a lot more time. I have Intel i7-7700, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1070.
I've been using C4D for donkeys years. I moved to it after my 3D Max training in 2001. I've always been a moderate modeller/animator,nothing professional. I've never used Octane or Redshift ever. Been thinking about it for years. IS Octane the one you can rent monthly? What's it like? Worth the money?
Cider Apple, Octane worth all the money, simply... THE BEST rendering engine and easy to use, easy to create materials...etc Redshift also a good one but slower in my opinion.I am using both of them.
Agree, it is worth the money and a lot faster than Redshift.

As I said, I will NOT sell for pennies and that is called principles. I'm not one of those who help with all this dumping thing. So, if your goal is to sell your clips some day for $1 you can do it, but I wont.

My best selling site is Adobe and I like them. They pay me better than SS or P5. So if they offered an exclusive contributor status then I'm all in. Adobe has some problems with upload speed and I don't like the lack of duplicate tags removal, but I still think they are the best on the market right now.

I just sent an angry email to Shutterstock telling them I will not be tolerating such behaviour. In case they try to sell my clips by underpricing them l will delete all clips and account. And I will really do that. I rather don't sell anything than sell for pennies. People saying this is a good business decision lack any modicum of knowledge how business works. Decisions like this are spasms of a dying company, not unlike what Pond5 tried to do recently and failed spectacularly. Idiotic moves like this, when the author is greatly underpriced and underpayed will just force creators to go to greener pastures like Adobestock.
So a big LOL at SS.
