Interesting to see people starting too many threads about StockXpert after getty acquired them.

There are threads about business going down. Or threads about rejections and review times.

-The payouts have been fine and no changes at all for me after getty bought them.
- The business is better than ever. No effects of getty yet. Though, it will go down in a couple of months because the JIU and photos.com subscriptions will be cancelled through StockXpert.
- Acceptance ratio is exactly the same as before.

I believe you don't need to worry, they might be late a bit.. But you will get your money very soon I think!  :)

In my case nothing going on.

There is a very very significant drop after BigStock.. You should never upload to other sites below BigStock unless you are making a payout on BigStock every month which is 30 dollars. (not much either) Maybe canstockphoto or crestock have a chance to do something for you as well, but the rest of the sites, even when combined are rubbish. Possibly Veer is going to join the group above sooner than any other site.

The sites I am giving a slight chance of succeeding are: cutcaster, featurepics, yaymicro (very low chance)

Anything below: Why waste your time, I just don't get it?! Don't bother with them before you see them rising on the list. The list on the right is quite accurate. You don't need to discover a new continent in the hope of sales. If you are not getting sales on TOP 7 or 8, it means you will definitely not get sales on any other sites. (I am not talking about occasional miracles; miracles can happen :D)

Hi All -

Thanks to cidepix for bringing this up:  over the past 24 hours we've investigated this problem and have implemented a short-term fix that will allow us to accept vector files affected by these issues, and still deliver high-quality JPEG previews.

We're still tracking down the reasons behind these problems (and why they may have only affected some files) - but this fix should allow you uploading again.

Beyond this we'll be looking at all of our options (not only tweaks to our rendering engine) to make sure we've got a vector ingest system that works well for you. It may take some time, but we'll keep you updated and will solicit your feedback as needed.

[ One note: you're right - there is not currently a 'resubmit' button, so you'll need to reupload these from scratch. ]

 - Brian

Thanks Brian,

There are 34 files to be resubmitted and keyworded.. Should I wait until you implement a resubmit button and then just upload the files without needing to re-enter the keywords?

If it's going to take very long to implement a resubmit button, then I might re-upload..

As I understand, I don't need to change the files but just resubmit them again as they are, which sounds great.

Quick solution! Hope it works fine..

It says "late summer and after" so I guess it's wide open for interpretation. :)

I hope they rise fast; but to be honest, I am not really expecting much in the beginning!

I like the way some people have written them off already.  None of us have a clue how well they will do.  I hope they learn the lessons from SV and I will give them at least a year to get going.

I you were referring to me, actually I was definitely not writing them off.. I believe they will do quite well in about 1 year.. But I thought this poll is about the launch and next few months!

If this poll is about near future, yes people who expect them to sell as much as IS are really in for a rude awakening ;D

But, if the poll is about the future, like 1 or 2 years from today; then I believe they will do well.. That's why I signed up! To support a new rival site against getty empire!

Josh is not working at Crestock anymore.

Try [email protected]

Shame, he seemed like a nice guy.

Thanks massman, i started uploading a couple of months ago. Buy/Rate here @ http://www.istockphoto.com/user_view.php?id=2881663

Josh, Now that you are an outsider, why wouldn't crestock increase the funny 0.25 cents commission? Aren't they aware that it is too low?

Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace Opens for Submissions!
« on: July 16, 2009, 09:41 »
My experience is good. They accepted 10 of 10 and it took less then a week.  Their FTP worked without any problem and the upload interface looks pretty good, it is already better then most of the agencies have.

Well, my experience was great apart from yesterday.. EPS file upload is problematic.. About 80 files accepted and 34 files rejected for a reason that has got nothing to do with me..

I am ok if the file is rejected for a normal rejection reason.. But I am certainly not OK when they say "Please resubmit the files because our preview generation sucks!" They say I am supposed to change the files so their previews can be created! The previews are all great elsewhere and nothing wrong with the settings of the files..

Now I am seriously worried that my accepted images may actually look bad in the previews when the site goes online.. Why on earth were they not rejected if my settings were wrong?..

The rejected files are not gradient mesh or something.. They are exactly the  same style as the accepted ones..

« on: July 16, 2009, 08:21 »
Hi All -

Thanks for the feedback on this.
We know this is a real pain for some of you - so we are looking into ways of tackling this in a future release.

Thanks!

- Brian

Brian, uploading JPEG image previews is not a problem. We are very used to it.. I mean I love only uploading EPS but there are issues when generating the preview.. I don't know if you have seen the other thread.. I also sent an email to veer's contributor help website..

I had about 80 images accepted of my first 110 and all the rejected ones are rejected because of the same reason: The preview is not properly generated.. That's not my fault because all the accepted files had same settings and same styl of art.. Some of the rejected files are far better images than my accepted ones.. This needs to be sorted.. If some of my best files are stuck because the preview generator does not work, this is a big issue for me!

Thanks..

Veer / Re: Veer - a big waste of time
« on: July 16, 2009, 08:15 »
I have had a positive experience with Veer so far.  Had my first payout sent yesterday and that is the most important factor to me.  They are doing much better than SV ever did and it is still far too early to judge them.  I should probably keep quiet, as when everyone uploads  sales might get diluted but I would like to see them do well.

My only complaint is the watermark.  Please give our images better protection.  SV had a much better watermark.

I wish it would continue to do well for everyone but the sales will be less (don't know how much less), but less once we all join in at the end of the month!

But you can be sure that it will be better than SV, even if the sales go down because their placement on Alexa is higher than CanStockPhoto and getting close to Crestock if that's any indication.

They will be worse than BigStock but who knows they may be as good when they launch the site and start advertising. Better than BigStock? It is a long shot but the prices of the images on Veer are much higher than BigStock, so kind of promising!

Illustration - General / Re: Anyone using Vectorstock.com?
« on: July 15, 2009, 20:02 »

I'm still on the fence about this one and have been giving it some more consideration lately. Anyone have any luck with Vectorstock? Has anyone gotten a file priced at more than 1 credit?

I have actually sent them an email recently, asking about their pricing policy and suggesting a different pricing model..

They were actually quite nice and said they are testing different pricing options and we should expect changes in the coming months.. The site is on the rise and it may rise faster once they win more contributors..

I suggested a file ranking system like DT, where the price goes up as the file sells.. I also suggested that (no matter how complex) all the files should enter the database at 1 credit and go up as they sell like DT.. This provides them with lots of 1 credit files, and rewards best selling files.. They were quick to repy to my email and said they have similar ideas in mind..

Let's see! I will be watching them closer from now on, and if they do implement a pricing model similar to the one mentioned above, it will be worth submitting I guess!

For those of you having trouble resizing images, this how I do mine:

http://illustrationinfo.com/?p=177

It saves me a bunch of time and hopefully it helps you too.

I save a bunch of time by using the "Save for Web" function inside of Illustrator.

Yes, but what he says is much faster! Actions in photoshop make the process lightspeed!

Does anyone sell on these - flashden, graphicriver, themeforest etc.?
They seem to only sell exclusive content, I've heard some good things, what are the returns like?

Wondering the same question!

Veer / Re: Veer! This is ridiculous...
« on: July 15, 2009, 18:36 »
I will always have to create an extra version for veer just because their auto-preview creator thing does not really do it's job!

I know its a PITA, but I do the same thing for istock and the other sites I submit too...istock accepts way different keywords that some of the others, so I make an extra file for istock with the extra keywords. Ya gotta play the game.

cclapper, the problem here is different, because: they accepted all the EPS artboards lower than 18 inches, apart from those 34 files.. That is the problem.. Their preview generator does not work properly..

I don't know If I was able to tell it, but the files have no problem.. The problem is the site previews that customers see!

BigStock has got the same system and all of those files - Veer rejected - are online with great looking previews on BigStock..

Veer's engine has issues when generating some gradients and colors as I can see! And the problem may still persist even If I do resize the artboards on the EPS files.. Resizing the artboard is one helluva easy job for me.. But what needs to be done here, should be done by veer..

Veer / Re: Veer! This is ridiculous...
« on: July 15, 2009, 17:03 »
Wow, sounds like a royal PITA!  Hope they get it sorted soon.

If anyone from Veer is listening, it sure would be nice to be able to submit more than 100/week...  Any chance on that being lifted soon?

I have submitted 110 files after the initial 10 were all accepted..

Of those 110, 34 files were rejected while the rest accepted, because their preview generator can not generate previews of 34 files.. Howcome it can not generate previews of those 34 files while it can generate it for the rest?

Look at the reason again: Other concerns. Artboard size and use of raster effect have caused poor quality preview file. Resubmit with maximum Artboard Size: 18 inches (1296px) by 18 inches (1296px), with Raster Effects set at High (300 ppi).

The settings were the same for the files they accepted..

For some ridiculous reason, their state of the art application failed to generate previews of those 34 files properly and now I don't even have a resubmit link. They say RESUBMIT, nice! Wouldn't it be nice If I didn't have to enter the keywords again?

Veer / Veer! This is ridiculous...
« on: July 15, 2009, 16:28 »
I need to say that things look very promising at veer.. But,

It is time now, to correct the site problems! I think this is a major issue that needs to be addressed before the marketplace site goes online!

After some unpleasant discussions here I was convinced that veer is a decent place and decided to submit my images to them.

Actually they messed it up while they were trying to be easier to submit! (Talking about EPS files) I had 34 files rejected for the same reason.. Here is the reason for 34 files:

Other concerns. Artboard size and use of raster effect have caused poor quality preview file. Resubmit with maximum Artboard Size: 18 inches (1296px) by 18 inches (1296px), with Raster Effects set at High (300 ppi).

Come one now! I would rather just submit a preview JPEG.. All the files I submitted were technically fine and online on 7 agencies! This is extra work for veer alone.. My Artboard size is always 21cm and I have got hundreds of images like that..

Now just because veer's super auto-preview creator can not generate proper previews, I am gonna have to open every single file and resize the Artboard and the illustration and resubmit.. This also means, in the future, If I want to submit to veer, I will always have to create an extra version for veer just because their auto-preview creator thing does not really do it's job! This is ridiculous.. We should submit jpeg previews which we already have created for other sites anyway!

Big stock photo have this feature and my previews on BigStock are just fine!

Also, will I need to resubmit the files as new uploads or will there be a resubmit link there so I don't need to enter all the keywords again? I can't see a resubmit link!

Other than this, I have got to say that the upload process is very smooth and great! Probably the best in the industry.. Congrats!

New Sites - General / Re: I found an interesting NEW site!
« on: July 10, 2009, 22:27 »
mentioned a few times

especially
http://www.microstockgroup.com/new-sites-general/photocase-com/

quote from geopappas in that thread

At this point, I wouldn't submit anything to them.
First, members can get free credits easily.  For example, members get 3 free credits every week.  Images "purchased" with those credits earn the contributor nothing.  So, in other words, people can have your images for free if they simply join.
Second, if you delete an image, then you lose 5 credits.
Third, all images are 1 euro, and you only get 60% of that.  So a 16 or 20 MP image will get you the same royalty as a 2 MP image.
Finally, the image on the homepage has a woman picking her nose.  I'm not sure about others, but that alone was a huge turn off.
Sorry, but I don't feel like supporting another site that seems to be in a race to the bottom.

I had a quick look,  about 150k images.  images are 2,4 or 6 credits, so good for small but not so good for very large.
But any registered user gets 2 freebie credits free a week that you dont get paid for and any photographer gets 6 freebie credits for every approved image that you also dont get paid for. so thats a lot of images being given away (way too many for me).

You are right! Didn't notice it was that awful! Now, that I looked again, I see what you mean! Stay away from this one!

I should have read it from A to Z before I posted it!

Well, I was searching the net to find new places to sell photos and here is the result.

This site -not- on the MSG list on the right hand side.

http://www.photocase.com

I thought it would be good to let you guys know since there is a site named Paxxion on the list which is a total loser. Paxxion is like 4 millionth something on web rankings. So no way you can currently make any sales using paxxion.

Btw, I should let you know that I am not using it, nor will I use it in the future as they don't sell vectors. Just thought It would be ok to post it here since there are many rubbish sites on the right anyway!  ;)

All cool! Approved 10/10

Where to fill the tax info or other details to finalize the application? Any links? I haven't received any emails that directs me to W8BEN form. Is it going to be available after I surpass the payout limit?

Thanks!

When you log back in and go to the upload screen, there is a text message on the left about finishing up some paperwork. I can't remember exactly what it said, but I think it was in the dashboard/workspace area.

Thanks, found it!
