All cool! Approved 10/10
Where to fill the tax info or other details to finalize the application? Any links? I haven't received any emails that directs me to W8BEN form. Is it going to be available after I surpass the payout limit?
Thanks!

StockXpert is pretty good for me even without JIU or photos-com, so of course I am uploading as usual.
IS would be mad to shut StockXpert down completely.

Veer Marketplace Opens for New Submissions!
Were excited to announce that as of today, June 8th, Veer Marketplace is now open and accepting submissions!
This means you can now sign-up and apply to become a Veer Marketplace contributor. Once you pass an entrance exam (submit 10 of your best shots for our editors to examine) and then complete royalty and tax information --- youll be ready to start uploading your full portfolio.
By submitting your content now, youll be sure to have completed the approval process and to be in the system so your portfolio is ready to go for the buyer-focused launch in mid-summer.
Weve designed the Veer Marketplace ingest and upload workflow to help you submit efficiently and to help you keyword effectively.
Some of the features were especially eager to show you:
Support for FTP or advanced HTTP web-upload Metadata and model and property releases can be attached to multiple images at once real-live batch processing capability! Model and property releases can be stored in the system and applied to future image uploads Powerful controlled vocabulary and keyword auto-mapping system automatically accommodates spelling variants, common misspellings and synonyms, and includes broader search terms. This gives you more efficient, consistent, and accurate keywording. For example, if a contributor adds the term happy to their image, the system automatically adds more than a dozen other terms such as happiness, cheerful, emotion, and good mood. Automatic creation of preview images in JPEG format for images uploaded in EPS format, such as illustrations. This means faster and more accurate uploads for vector artists. Youll have the option of selecting between PayPal and Payoneer as payment options during sign-up. If you decide to go with Payoneer, in the next few weeks following sign-up well send you a link to the Payoneer site where youll complete registration, and soon have your Veer Marketplace branded debit-Mastercard in hand for use in virtually any online, retail or ATM. No categories!
This is only the beginning. The platform needs your input were actively soliciting feedback and feature suggestions to help enhance future releases.
Head to http://contributor.veer.com to get started now!
We look forward to welcoming you into the Veer community, and to seeing the great images and illustrations youve been creating over the past few months!
- Brian
Brian, I don't know if this was asked before. Unfortunately right now I can not read the whole thread. I guess this wasn't asked anyway. When uploading vectors, do you require a sketch or a reference photograph taken by contributor (if there is any) for each vector submitted? %90 of sites do not require this for vectors but I do have to submit it for istockphoto almost every single time. Would be good to know in advance. Thanks

Jon's original reply is long gone and killed! I don't know if anybody has it around here. If you do post it please!

Guys, you are quoting helix7 and he is from US. You must understand him, he DOES NOT CARE about your 30% taxes. So, dont get over excited and dont waste your time explaining this thing to people who already pay these taxes. We must concentrate to admins at SS. And there is Serbian forum at SS anyway. I hope all this matter will be solved soon.
I think you need to understand me before you advise anyone else to do so. Where did I ever say I didn't care about the extra taxes you guys would be paying?
My comments were about the behavior of those who protested the new policy. I think it sucks that you'll have to pay more taxes, but I also think that most people have gone about that protest completely wrong, and no one should be surprised by the response from SS regarding banning and account deletion.
You are right, you shouldn't be worried about explaining anything to me. You shouldn't even be taking this discussion to the forums and wasting your time trying to explain it to anyone. If you care that deeply about the issue and really want to try making a difference, get in direct contact with people at the SS offices.
I don't think Jon handled the situation very well. There is no excuse for the kind of response they posted on the forum. They should keep it serious and official. If you saw the post by Jon, I am sure you know what I am talking about. That's definitely not a response I would have. If you are a guy sitting on multi-million dollars a year, you are expected to handle the case much better. Opening post could be wrong in some ways but many people asked SS if they are going to provide an official document that they paid %30 to IRS and for a long time, there was no answer. Eventually someone said the deduction will be reflected on the balance and earnings page. WRONG answer by SS. If you are deducting %30, you are bound to provide an official document from IRS so people can put it in their files to prevent being taxed by their local governments. One more thing: nobody is going to sign-up for a new account knowing their earnings will be deducted by %30. SS is on the wrong path. You may disagree with me as much as you want, but SS is on a wrong path. I wonder what their sign-up page will tell to new potential contributors?0.25 per download + %30 reduction for United States! Ridiculous! No newbie is going to sign up for that ridicule. Let's see if they are going to tell newbies the truth. I bet they won't. United States law is very questionable as well. Why would someone pay %30 to US and not even being given a document confirming that he paid. I am in the UK and I hate the fact that I have to obtain a BS US reference number and give my info to any US governing body! I will probably provide the bloody number for the sake of business but I have to tell you I hate that fact as much as I can possibly hate it. The OP is right when he asks, "Where was all this in the beginning?" Where was it when I signed up? I would not have signed up if I was told about it in advance. But I am not pulling away that quickly after spending a lot of time building a portfolio. I have the right to ask "why was I not informed in the beginning?"

Clipartof states on its website that it needs the same paperwork shutterstock is asking for right now. So every contributor who is not an US-citizen MUST have this tax- formular before he wants to apply. Thats what their website explicitly says.
Is there another illustration site which is not from the US? (I dont want to have the hassle with all these formulars and such).
They are not asking for the same thing. They are just asking for a form to be filled. You fill in the form, send it, and you are done. Whereas Shutterstock is asking for a ridiculous procedure just to get an ITIN.

I have just noticed that i have around 15 people on various sites I have been credited with referring. None of whom have ever made a sale. I was just wondering if others contact their referals and offer help?
My referrals are my friends, so sure I do. But I wouldn't contact anybody apart from my friends just to get 0.3 cents of their sales I would rather spend that time creating new content. Helping my friends of course help me get the extra 0.3 cents but I do like helping them anyway. Some of them still can't make a decent image no matter how much I help them. If they are good, they will figure it out. I have only 1 friend who is a proper contributor and makes decent money. So I can say apart from 1 referral, I don't make much from that bonus.

You could try Clipartof.com Go to http://www.clipartof.com/info/contributor_agreement.html
Thanks for the tip, I had not heard of this site. Regarding the discussion of selling at this site and on microsites also, I noticed this part of the contributor-agreement page: "ClipArtOf.com is non exclusive. Contributors are able to sell the same images on other sites, including micro stock sites, however it is recommended that a pseudonym (ficticious name) is used if the images are sold on micro sites to avoid harassment of disagreeing visitors that are strongly against micro."
Yep, I noticed that too. Sounds like an amazing place for illustrations. 50/50 is great, also being able to set the price is huge. Checking the site's ranking on the web and I am surprised to find that it ranks higher than veer and vectorstock. This place looks like it can easily make much more than BigStock, 123rf, vectorstock and veer. It can be right behind SS, IS and StockXpert for illustrators. We will see.

I'd like to clarify the Veer Marketplace royalty structure for everyone here. There's been discussion about our rate of 35%, which is close but not quite correct as it doesn't take into account pricing for Credit Packs and Subscription packages.
The VMP Rate Card now includes pricing so you can more accurately calculate net percentages. Note: the currency exchange rates will be updated monthly.
For Credit Packs, VMP pays $0.35 per credit, however, the customer price per credit ranges from $1.50 to $0.95 depending on the size of credit package purchased. As such, contributor royalties will range from 23% to 37% accordingly. We expect the sweet spot for customer purchases to be mid-range.
For Subscriptions, VMP pays $0.20 per credit. In this model, contributor royalties range from 24% to 65% again depending on the size of the package purchased and by how many credits are used. Remember we pay per credit, not per download for subscriptions.
All the pricing details are on the updated Rate Card. It's been posted to Veer at http://submissions.veer.com.
Here's the direct link to the PDF: http://www.veer.com/download/pdf/vmp_ratecard.pdf
Aaron
Hi Aaron, I did criticize veer a bit on that other thread. But I believe you deserve some credit for your subscription model. Although I am not delighted for the pay per download percentages, subscription model is more than good to make up for it.

The counter argument is that the photographers are indivudally doing their business with Shutterstock from their own computers in their home countries. That the business between Shutterstock and the photographer is at the place where the image is uploaded from. Shutterstock is doing business in the US - but the photographers are not.
One solution would potentially be for the photographers to issue invoices to Shutterstock. The invoice originating not in the US.
Good idea, I hope you don't mind that I just quoted this on SS forum.

Thanks for the info sharpshot. So they didn't really say where to send it, I suppose just back to same email address? Can you post that email address here or send it as a PM.
And just to repeat myself, if you need the ITIN try calling the IRS and save yourself some time and paperwork IRS number +1-215-516-6999
Leaf, it's all nice since we are in Europe, me in UK you in Norway?! We sure can get this sorted. But it is a huge problem for people who are not in countries that has a tax treaty with US. I don't think the world becomes a great place if we only think about saving our own butts. SS or any company needs a different solution.
yes i agree it is a terrible solution for those who have to have any tax withheld or have to jump through ridiculous hoops to get the papers in order. What else could shutterstock do though besides moving their office to another country? perhaps they should head over to Ireland like Snapvillage did.
That's the solution. But even for us to provide the original passport or pay ridiculous amounts for the identification as they state on SS forums is unacceptable. If moving to Ireland will sort it then they should, without doubt.

I am paying taxes in the UK. And apparently if I fill these forms I won't pay anything to US authorities.
But why all the hassle? Unbelievable! Why can't I just get a letter from Inland Revenue in the UK or basically a letter from my accountant, or paperwork that shows I already pay taxes in the UK.
Why all the BS!?

Can you keep your images on StockXpert now since they belong to IS now? StockXpert and IS are two separate businesses that belong to Getty.
Yes but if they make IS exclusives available also on StockXpert I think more people will consider going exclusive as it is going to be a bigger market. And if they buy only one more site and include that to exclusivity the other sites would be in trouble because many contributors will go exclusive considering there will be a good pay-rise on IS as well. Currently if a non-exclusive is making let's say; %40 of his income on IS and %60 on others combined, and chooses exclusivity; the situation for him/her will not be so great. But if StockXpert and another site is included as a new market for istock exclusives then exclusivity may well generate more income than being a non-exclusive; and it could be worth to take the risk.

If there is any at all. I was accepted on ss on April 17. I just have 22 images there, but 47 downloads. I've heard that newbies get preference. I think this is speculation, but it could be true as 47 downloads seems a lot. I can understand preference for new images but not for newbies. Do any of you know anything about this? Cheers.
Don't worry, there are many honeymoons at SS. Every time I upload new content it is BANG!! great But when they get old it slows down. Keep uploading and you will be fine.

Nice to see everybody can figure out their own way of screwing the contributors. BigStock went unnoticed as they are a low earner. fotolia does it, BigStock does it, all of them do.. but When I focus on veer like in the other thread, then I am a sinner because I said "let's stop veer in advance, before they get millions of images". I never went in a rant, I just wanted to close the gates to more of the same. The reason I didn't mention other sites like BigStock and fotolia was because they already have millions of images, not because I am loving them! anyway guys, stop going in a rant against BigStock At the end of the day, they still pay better than IS, right? What a good example for all of us! IS?!

Everything at Vectorstock is 1 credit, and while that is a bit disappointing, it's not enough by itself to keep me from signing up.
What does stop me from signing up is how they mislead you into thinking that some of your files will actually be priced at more than 1 credit. If they want to price everything at 1 credit, fine. But by displaying a tiered rate schedule and implying that files will be priced appropriately based on the complexity of the image, and then going ahead and pricing everything at 1 credit after you join and submit files, to me that seems like a bait-and-switch.
Change the pricing policy and I'll gladly sign up. Until than, thanks, but no thanks.
I was thinking a while ago that I am going to send them an email directly and ask If they were to really price my files based on complexity and treat more complex files accordingly, then I would join because the royalties are not a big problem as they increase with your ranking increasing.

so what you are saying is, if we are already being screwed by the existing ones, we might as well get screwed by any new site and never try to change this vicious circle?... Well it's your opinion that 35% means getting screwed. For most people in microstock, it's fair. Even istock exclusives don't get much more, and it's only those that are at the diamond level that get a higher rate than 35%. Yet people do quite well there, and few (if any) exclusives complain about the percentages.
Would I like to get paid more? Sure, who wouldn't. But your crusade against Veer is just totally misguided. I'm not sure why you think you can muscle them into a higher commission with some forum ranting, and they certainly aren't a new company as you say, so I also don't see how that would make any difference in this argument. And as mentioned countless times by myself and others, 35% isn't bad compared to many other microstock rates. So why you started your campaign for higher commissions with Veer is just bizarre.
Your "vicious circle" isn't going anywhere, and even if somehow you managed to convince Veer to raise rates you'd never succeed with any of the other companies, no matter how many people you managed to rally around your cause. Again, I'd love to make more money, as would everyone else in this business. Unfortunately, though, we're too far along in the establishment of standards and acceptable rates in microstock, and going back on those rates is just not going to happen. You might as well be arguing for 99% commissions, because this whole thing is about as silly as that would be.
Now, this is a good and well argumented response. I am not going to say I disagree because I don't. I agree with most things you just said! Yes, veer is an established macro agency. I have veer in my favourites tab and they are the first place I will upload my images as It is obvious they are going to do well. But their microstock collection is still much smaller than IS or SS. That is why they are the subject of this thread. I only have 2 questions to you and to all the guys if they would care to answer: 1- What would happen if nobody uploaded to veer? Would they sit down and contemplate what offerings need to be improved or would they just keep everything the same although no one uploads images?2- What would happen if nobody uploaded to IS or SS? Would they sit down and contemplate as quick as veer would? Do they depend on new content as much? If the answer is yes! Then I am sorry, yes this thread should have been covering all agencies. I like almost everything about veer and the reason I started this thread is, I would want them to be the perfect example of how an agency should be run. I would be fine if they at least offered the possibility to make %50 if you were to go exclusive. That would be fair. If you are exclusive and put your trust in veer, you should make %50 and if you are a non-exclusive then probably %35 is fair.

But to go off in a rant like this thread started out because a site is offering about average what the other sites are offering seems rather odd.
What you guys don't seem to understand is an organized pressure from contributors COULD have resulted in a commissions increase. ( Call it "go off in a rant". No problem! ) But won't happen now, don't worry, after all the replies you have provided veer has a very good reason to keep the commissions low! Believe it or not, had you all "gone off in a rant" like I did on this thread you could have gotten a commission increase. (Probably) For all I know they could be a disgruntled former employee or work at a competing agency.
This was an attempt to get a better commission, and I only need to be a contributor to do this. I have nothing to do with veer. I have nothing to do with any website, apart from contributing. Again what is the point in revolting against IS or SS? They already have a gallery of millions of images and the probability they will give you an increase is much less than veer since veer is NEW ( you like it or not it is new, their microstock gallery is quite small, and still needs huge contribution from us) If nobody contributes for %35 then you will automatically be given %50 or even more. To say otherwise is ridiculous. Why I don't say this about istock? Here is why: Already having millions of images makes them less vulnerable, Not only we would need to stop uploading, but also we would need to delete the entire istock collection to make similar impact. If you think it can be done for any established website, tell us how, so we can get a better commission. Having the right to complain means you also should expect there will be people who disagree with you.
They (you) sure have all the rights to disagree with me which I can always take. If you think they(you) just disagreed with me you are in an illusion lisafx You just tried to teach me how I should have started the thread and you also gave me an example of the ideal thread. Further, just have a look at the reply below yours which I won't even take serious to provide an answer. I disagree with you as well, but I don't go as far as teaching you how you should have responded to me.

The people who contribute to that site deserve what they get anyway, so no problem. I have an idea they might be convinced to give their files for free until they reach a certain ranking! And when they are about to reach that ranking you just change the Terms&Conditions and they will say "Oh, well, It is what it is! Get on with it"

This thread is getting more and more ridiculous.
Here I am, an istock exclusive, trying to convince someone who has already made his mind up (based on half-baked theories and assumptions) that Veer is the next up & comer.
Why do I care whether he has a clue??
I agree with RT that it's pretty funny that other sites have been getting away with much less than 50% for quite a while now and for some reason Veer has been singled out for scrutiny. I love how SS gets "woo yay" all 'round for their new marketing, when I mentioned Veer's similar promotion (which was launched first), it was less warmly received:
and please see, that they are giving $10 towards the content they get for FREE.
But that's okay. Maybe it will delay the floodgates at least 30 days.
All I wanted to do was to discuss the %35. Apparently I have no rights to even mention my disagreement with %35 commission. I also have no rights to mention veer in such a thread because apparently I didn't bash IS or SS enough in order to qualify for criticising veer. But you are right, this thread is getting ridiculous and it is all my fault.

One site paying 35% or less commission is ok with you, another isn't. Pretty convenient if you ask me.
so what you are saying is, if we are already being screwed by the existing ones, we might as well get screwed by any new site and never try to change this vicious circle? I would like it all to change of course but if we can not change a new one, how do you expect to change an established one. I don't hate veer, nothing close to hatred, I actually quite like them except commissions. I didn't get banned from fotolia forum for being "only" against veer.
