« on: December 19, 2018, 18:35 »
Alamay is able to do this because most of their content is non exclusive. Very little risk to their new revenue goals but a positive message they can send all while not really changing a thing on the pay cut.

I don't even know how to mark images as exclusive on Alamy. I have a bunch.

Tick the exclusive box in the optional tab.

Signature files are provided by iStock exclusive artists.
No more, no less.

OK - Thanks!
Seems kinda stupid to filter results according to the contributor agreement and not the content quality - but it is what it is...
It means that should a customer wish, they can look first at files that aren't available elsewhere.

« on: December 18, 2018, 15:09 »
Sorry, I haven't seen that info (you need an API key).
The last I read, you can't upload to iS via Stocksubmitter:
http://www.microstockgroup.com/istockphoto-com/is-bans-stocksubmitter/msg514854/#msg514854
http://www.microstockgroup.com/software-general/istockgetty-no-longer-accepting-submissions-from-stocksubmitter/25

I googled stocksubmitter API iStock and stocksubmitter API iStockphoto and can't find anything more recent than the above threads from msg.
If you read that info elsewhere, maybe you could contact the source of the info?

Alamy is the only place I still have photos. The only reason I left them there is that with Alamy I didn't feel like a chump every time I made a sale. If they can't hold the line at 50% anymore then I guess it's time to pull the plug.

You are in luck they just announced today that "exclusive" images will still get 50% none exclusive images 40%

But they're not exclusive, because I still try to sell prints of some of them.
The others will be exclusive, then.
Also we have yet to hear whether they'll be counted as exclusive if available at pos print sites and we have opted out of print (and PU) sales at Alamy for that image.

Agreed 100%. Plus, purchasing images is self service for the most part, that's not expensive for stock agencies to organize.
At micros, yes.
Alamy actually offers some help in the process, if it's needed.

Anyway, the latest news is that exclusive-to-Alamy files are to stay at 50%, non-exclusive files go to 40%.
As my files are all de facto exclusive, except for a few at FAA which I can change*, that's great news, in my opinion.

*Unfortunately, Alamy now sells prints via a 3rd party, for very low prices. However, that can be opted out of, together with personal use.

A revolution against someone who is still paying the highest rates (but not so high anymore) and that is trying to invest in growth to get more end customers should find contributors considerate and not angry, offensive or insulting.
That's completely ignoring the fact that we already went from 60% to 50% to fund the US office. According to Alamy, that expansion went "far better than we expected", though most (of those who report) haven't seen any uptick in sales to the US. So most of us lost money to boost the earnings of a few (and, apparently, Alamy's bottom line). Despite them saying that expanding US operations at our expense surpassed expectations, we didn't get restored to 60%.

I Like there Tag. "Stock Photos that don't Look Like stock Photos"

About time.

Yeah, but in many cases they look just like stock photos elsewhere; and trying my usual searches shows the keywording must be about as bad there as it is elsewhere.

I don't understand why this isn't being discussed here. The post in the general section, that I only looked at the other day so maybe it says more now, only had posts from people who seemed pleased about the commission drop. This is very much a topic for THIS section and for Alamy contributors.

I won't write out lots about it for now because, like with other threads here, only very few people comment. I wish the Alamy section here was used more as we have more freedom here to speak our minds than in Alamy's own forum (plus hopefully the disruptive "I know best" Alamy forum regulars aren't here). There are a few other places to write with fellow Alamy contributors but only tiny groups where new members aren't welcome. So it's either here on Alamy's own forums.

The only posts on this topic in the Alamy forum on this subject which have been deleted were very verbally abusive ones by (mostly)one particular person. Other than that, two threads have been allowed to run freely.
Whether anything will change is doubtful. Like Getty before them, they're just letting people vent, then will be back to business as usual.
There are other groups, one of which was referenced in one of these two threads and has welcomed 25 new members in the last few days.
BTW, venting here won't change anything either, but it may be cathartic.

Also, saying that on the other thread here you "only see comments from people who are pleased about the commission drop" is totally bizarre.  I can only see this thread: http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/alamy-'good-news'!, which I just read over again and don't see even one post indicating someone who is "pleased about the commission drop", a lot of disgruntlement expressed in different ways and some posts saying, yeah, it's bad, but really, where's better (bottom line: most of us are shafted wherever we go, and now Alamy is just as bad as the rest).

Doesn't seem like a very reputable company.
Do a search on Clipdealer here on msg.
This is a thread to give you an idea, but this thread is about videoclips, not photos:

Keep checking the Help forum on iS's forums for progress on this.
(Oh, but if you can't get in to iS/Getty at all, that's no use).
Maybe they'll manage to fix it for everyone by the end of the month.  ::)

Is there anything in the help forums about this now? I am not the only one? I thought maybe I got kicked out, although I have been uploading and selling regularly and otherwise behaving.

Yes, like I said, real emails have been sent out, but some people are having problems with the process. Though obviously those reporting there aren't people who can't get into ESP in the first place.  ::)

Yes, I checked the Tax Interview tab immediately but there is no notification or warning of an approaching expiration. The email says that my tax form will expire as of 31 December 2018 but there is no mention of it in the ESP account, neither in the Tax tab or the Messages tab. I would expect them to send the message also directly through the ESP, not just an email. Well, I will wait and see.
There are posts on their forum relating to your problem.
However, it seems (from other places) that  lots of people had genuine emails about this at the same time.
"I would expect them to send the message also directly through the ESP," Yeah, well, how often does Getty do the logical thing?

I created a support ticket asking them about legitimacy of the email. Hopefully they will reply soon.
It's likely to be legitimate, as the site told me my tax interview had expired and I had to do it again.
I didn't click through from the email, though, as I was also nervous in case it wasn't genuine, but I was already logged in and just went to the link from my profile.
I completed and signed the form without hitches, FF/Win.
(However back when I had to do it for the first time, it was a nightmare which took me days to do, all sorts of technical hitches.)

Thanks. I will wait till next week, if I hear from support or not. Then I guess I will just fill in the Tax Interview again, it wont hurt. The email looks a bit weird because it is a clustered text with many links, it looks somewhat unprofessional but it is probably legitimate since they had my ID correct.

You could just log into your account as you normally would, then check via the tax interview on the profile page whether you need to update it. The link is just under 'country' in your address details.

OK....here we go. who is gonna submit to OnePixel,
I'm not.

So this post is for folks with knowledge of how websites, search engines, links etc work. So I did a search of one of my images.  Some of the results show my pic in the thumbnail but link to others work. I have seen this before with other images of mine. Is this normal? If not who is responsible for this? The stock site or google? How can I fix this? Is it fixable?

Many thanks in advance for your responses. :)

I think what happens is that you search e.g. 'horse', and then click on your 'horse' pic via Google onto a website, you then get taken to a generic 'horse' search on that website. Don't know how many sites what happens with, but it certainly happens with several.
Not only stock sites, I just did a check-search and got onto a non-stock photo site via a photo selected from a keyword search, and it took me to all the photos of that subject on the non-stock site.

1320
How about none of them they are all chisellers  ;D

You are too late for the stock game its done
That's what I was thinking. I've been saying for a while that if I was starting now, I wouldn't. But of course, it's hindsight that's making me say that!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Alamy "good news"!

The best thing is, that they take our money to get bigger share of the market. But as we all sell on different places, not only on Alamy, they in fact use our money to lower our income from other sites. They don't rise our share, for us its not difference (yes, that still pay a little more than some others, obviously until next crisis) , but we lost the money for ever...
Which sites are you on where you'll get a better rpd, even with the 20% cut?
How will they "lower your income from other sites"?
On the contrary, it's the low subs sites which have made customer expectation of unsustainably low prices, which is knocking on to Alamy.
If they take market share from other microstock sites then yes that lowers income from those sites but as you say that is likely to still result in a net gain even at the new rates. If they take it from other high cost  "premium" sites then those people with content there could lose out but it would be a gain for me. Given they are typically more expensive than the microstock sites their main target will be "mid stock" I think. Unfortunately current prices are not "unsustainable".
But even if you take it that cosus was concerned about their income from premium sites being hit (but this is a microstock site), surely the micros are eating more into that market than Alamy is?

Unfortunately, I think current prices are indeed unsustainable for us.

While it would obviously be better if there wasn't a cut they are really no worse than the rest of the industry. Which successful agency pays 50%?
Some of the specialists, but they generally require a high submission per month/quarter.
Fair point but for those agencies pitching themselves in the microstock market with which Alamy pretty much does I don't think there are any.
Indeed no. I don't count Alamy as micro quite yet, though.

They're crazy! Then I will just delete my account with them.
Too bad about the work, have uploaded in the years about 10000 pictures.
...
Well well, then I don't sell any more there either.

Greedy Alamy - byebye
Where will you be sellling which is less greedy?

Wish AS would start editorial, they're fair and they'd probably have volume also.
They're fair? What's their commission rate? Is it more than 40%?

33% as a start, or up to 46% depending on your former FT rank. Also, they've introduced minimum royalties for subs starting at 0.33 USD. It's not amazing, but it feels like it's going in our direction for a change.
How is earning 33c for a sale to a commercial company 'fair'?
On Alamy my rpd is c$10, going down to $8. Admittedly far fewer sales than on iS, but it's a fairer price.
I'm not defending Alamy; it's just that most of the opposition is much worse in many ways.
I can't see me knowingly signing up for 33c a sale (and lower for some other sales).

But as I've said repeatedly, we all have to draw our own lines as to what is and isn't acceptable.
