Well, I wasn't to sure what to make of it. As always I expect bad news, but in the end I guess it doesn't really matter since PM is almost dead anyway.

Mine was accepted

I never understood why the writers of "How to make $1000 with..." e-books are trying to make a living selling those books, instead of just using the ideas from their own book.

Sounds like those "How I earn $9500 a month working from home" schemes. If it's so easy, why spend your precious time selling crappy books?

How long does it take to get to 1k? And how many pictures do you need? This eBook has the answers.

I expect to find the answer somewhere on page 186: "it depends."

What a disgusting move by 500px / KT.

Goes to show that KT apparently wasn't simply a messenger when they cut royalties at iStock in 2010. Now we see a clear pattern. Everywhere he goes, he turns promising ventures into turds.

This reeks of desperation.

I received the following e-mail:

Changes to the Author License Agreement

Hello *****,

In the past 12 years PantherMedia has managed to develop successfully within a very dynamic business environment. In recent years many owner managed agencies vanished in the consolidation wave that swept the industry or became increasingly irrelevant. We are glad that we have been able to maintain and even extend our position in the market during this time of major change.

A major challenge we are facing today, however, is that the ever increasing complexity of the products we offer and as well as our platform itself beginning to delay important technological developments. It is for this reason we have decided to reduce this complexity. New strategies and investments are required in order to ensure a positive long term development.

Having Tomas Speight join PantherMedia as a new CEO was the first step in the new direction we are taking at PantherMedia with the intention of raising the agency to a new level internationally. Nevertheless, this and keeping up with the competition from the industry giants requires new investments on our part in order to provide you with growth into the future.

That said, the introduction of new products and highly innovative services is imminent. The launch of these initiatives, however, require streamlining and simplifying the Author and Customer License Agreement and bringing it in line with international contractual standards and royalties.

Overview of key changes:

Changes to the Author License Agreement

A frequently discussed and clearly confusing concept is our price exclusivity. This will be discontinued with our new contracts. All images uploaded to PantherMedia will be non-exclusive from when the contract comes into force. That means that images you have previously uploaded as price-exclusive will now be offered as non-exclusive.

The royalty system will be updated at the same time. The current version with price exclusivity and an upload volume bonus will be replaced by a unified royalty rate which increases based on your success at PantherMedia (sales). This change also opens up to you the option of licensing your previously exclusive images through additional channels. The royalty rate will continue to be in the range of 30% to 40% for non-exclusive images. The bonus related to the number of uploaded images will be replaced with a bonus related to sales success. Your level of success will be calculated based on all your sales from your original registration onwards. Please click here (http://contributor.panthermedia.net/cms/commission-structure) for more details on the new royalty system.

The differing rights granted and licence fees charged for different pictures has been particularly confusing for customers and partners alike. This, too, we intend to simplify and harmonize with international standards by clarifying that now all uploaded images shall be available for extended licenses, special licenses, subscriptions and our distributor network. Our extended licenses have also been simplified and make for a more transparent offer. Social Media uses have become part of the standard license while Press and Corporate License have been combined into one, as have the Template and Merchandising License. Please note that the social media license usage rights are limited in such a way that the license automatically terminates, if a social media network is in breach of our license terms (e.g. sub licensing and selling continue to be excluded). The number of available file sizes will be reduced to 5 resolutions (Blog, Web, Print Small, Medium and XXL) and two pricing categories: standard and budget. Please click here (http://stockagency.panthermedia.net/cms/productpreview) to see the overview of future licenses, resolutions and prices.

Changes to the End User License Agreement

The above listed changes will also be implemented in the Customer License Agreement.

New to the customer license agreement are Rights Managed Licenses. These will initially be offered for editorial images. Additional content will follow.

Next Steps

You can already review the new A uthor License Agreement and the End User License Agreement here.

All changes will automatically become effective in 14 days, i.e. on the 15th of April 2016. No further action on your part is necessary. In the event that you do not agree with these new terms you have, in accordance with the author license agreement, a special termination right for your Contents or you Membership for the next 14 days.

In the next few months, beside the aforementioned product changes, we will be communicating a broad range of new services and partnerships which we are confident will contribute significantly to the growth of PantherMedia. In the near future we will also be launching an innovation which is unique in the global photo industry and which we believe will influence it significantly.

We are also starting a new exclusive collection in the premium segment based on truly creative and inspiring images and this will have a royalty rate of 50%.

Bear with us while we build the future. We look forward to continuing our good partnership.

Faithfully,

Tomas Speight & Robert Walters
The Executive Team

Commissions? Terms and conditions? And since when is "access to online royalty reporting so you can track your earnings 24/7" a unique selling point?

1308
I've received the same e-mail. I simply entered my own social security number in Box 6  field (foreign tax identifying number) and I left Box 5 empty.

Normally, Box 6 is optional (at most agencies) but apparently, VideoBlocks needs this information.

Almost no sales, and almost all were refunds due to 'credit card fraud'.

I went to check my Veer account that is collecting dust and cobwebs....

Unpaid earnigns and pending payments show as 0.....However when I look in the tab "Past payments" I can see the last 3 payments,...of which one is    $22.75 (net) on March 18, 2016

I didn't receive any email about payment...

Mine appeared in the Junk folder, so you should check that.

« on: March 20, 2016, 06:24 »
I price tier 2, because 4K is indeed too cheap at tier 1.

I rather price too high than too low. Besides, today I received a 1080p video sale for $26.64, which at 35% translates to a total price of $76.11...That means it was only $0.84 per credit. Why the huge discount?

1315
Today I sold a video there. I'm currently eyeing it suspiciously to see when the refund is going to happen.

1316
FWIW, I have received my payment without any problems.

My images are mirrored there using my own keywords and titles.

Comparing the image titles/descriptions I guess it must be a partner site of Fotolia.

But you should contact that site or Fotolia just to be sure.

Good riddance, DPC!

Has it been years already? Seems like yesterday.

Anyone earning less than US$20 Net average per download is doing something wrong. That should be the ultimate lowest threshold a professional videographer should tolerate.

Definitely.

$20 is quite different amount of money for the USA, Monaco, Nigeria and Russia for example :) I mean not only usually compared Big Mac's prices but the cost of some professional gear too.

$20 may be worth a lot more in less developed countries, but $50 is worth even more. So if the customer is willing to pay $50 or more, why not ask that?

SpaceStockFootage - You mentioned about Artbeats, tell me how many clips you have there and what is the number of downloads (average) that you do per month ? ...if you do not mind and please explain to me their calculation formula ( Subscription Fees x 50% x (your downloads/total downloads) . How can you see as a contributor their total number of downloads ?
thank you...

Yeah, just to clarify, it's Artbeats Express rather than Artbeats, Although I've been invited to have my portfolio on the original Artbeats as well. Anyway, you're right... they take the total amount of subscription revenue in a month, keep 50% for themselves and then pay out 50% to the authors/contributors. The amount you get is the total author revenue (that 50%) divided by how many clips have been downloaded in the month to give a per clip figure. You then get that multiplied by how many of your clips have been downloaded.

So if the total revenue from subscriptions is $100,000 in one month and 5,000 clips are downloaded (5 of them yours) then it's $50,000 divided by 5,000 multiplied by 5 = $50.

There's a less complicated explanation of it out there somewhere, but I can't find it at the moment. That's right though. Not including the three I only uploaded this week, I have 30 clips there and I've got $13.29 per sale. Only had seven sales there so far, five of one clip over a month or two, which was the top seller for a while. I'm trying to get in touch with them about it though... when you search by 'most downloaded' that clip is on page 5 or something, when it's actually been downloaded the most... only tied with one other clip. Some pesky eagle. My clip should be on the home page, under popular footage, in-between the eagle and the lizard thing.

Is there a minimum commission per clip?

Shutterstock.com / Re: New EL royalty poll on surveymonkey
« on: March 10, 2016, 20:56 »
As I mentioned in another thread, I opted out of ELs after the royalty change and earlier had turned down customer support when they offered to process a $22 EL for me.

Today I received another e-mail from support, but this was for $40 royalty, so I said that was fine to process (I'm still opted out; they just process one sale). I then got an e-mail saying the customer wanted another image as well, same $40.

So this seems to work OK for me: if it's below $28 the answer is no; if it's $28 or higher I'll let the sale go ahead. I might miss out on some if a customer doesn't want to bother contacting SS to ask, but I'm OK with that.

It's good to hear that support still contacts contributors if an EL is requested by the customer. That way you can indeed decide whether or not to accept an offer.
I thought the option to buy EL's would be removed completely when I opted out.

Never tried it. It devalues my hard work and I doubt people looking for free stuff will turn into paying customers.

General - Top Sites / Re: Alamy passed Fotolia??
« on: March 10, 2016, 15:33 »
I had to close my Alamy account since I had 4 small sales from 1 Jan 2015 :| (contributing from 2009 with a portfolio of 6k+ images/illustrations only).
So I'm not sure how accurate are those ratings ... maybe the sales are better for other contributors but for me it was a big fail.
You must of been doing something wrong with the keywords to sell that little.  I don't think they are great with illustrations but I only have around 100 and get regular sales with them.

I was wondering about that. I have mass uploaded my images so I didn't pay attention to the whole "essential"/"main"/"comprehensive" keywords thing. Would that make a difference or is it a waste of time?

Currently (animations only):

- VideoBlocks
- SS
- Pond5
- FT
- 123RF
- Canstock (HD only)

Not anymore:
- ClipCanvas (no sales)
- MotionElements (dried up)
- IS (low commission)
- DT (low commission)
- DP (all refunds, prone to credit card fraud)
- Revostock (bunch of crooks who quit and left with other people's money)

Wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole:
- VideoHive

General - Stock Video / Re: animation/motion graphics
« on: March 10, 2016, 11:14 »
I started out with vectors illustrations and last year I decided to try selling stock videos, using my skills in After Effects and 3D Max. I'm no expert in vfx but I do know 2D animation. So I'm learning day by day and whenever I have spare time, I spend it on creating stock animations. So far they're selling okay, especially on VB.

There's a lot of good stuff already for sale, so the competition is fierce. There's also some lower quality out there, so pick your niche and try to create something better.
