It seems a bit redundant to me. Seems like most of the questions were about how to best sugar coat bad news. If the truth is "we want to shaft you for more money" it doesn't matter how honest and open they are about it, you still ain't gonna be sitting comfortably when they finish. I doubt the results will have any impact outside of contributor relations, and all they can do is fiddle with the wrapper not the content. There is no way it's going to result in higher commissions for us, so it's a waste of time as far as I'm concerned.
Yes, I noticed the sugar coating thing. I did remember to say that sugar coating meant nothing to me. I also said that a lot of the contract blurb is ambiguous - maybe deliberately so? - vide the discussions in the forums about details of e.g. the exclusivity contract or the content licence agreement, where no admins ever come in to give a definitive interpretation, and peer discussion is inevitably inconclusive, because different, even opposite interpretations are perfectly valid. I mentioned the Plain English Society, but then I often suggested them to whoever writes that stuff.

Since iStock started sending out their survey today, I was curious what it would take to make you happy with iStock again. By happy, I'm referring to money (more precisely royalty percentages).
I'd be 'happy' if I was getting 50%, but I'd be 'satisfied' if I was getting the 35% I would have been getting had I been grandfathered in, as promised, and getting an extra 10% for ELs, as previously.

crap i havent gotten mine... was it all sent out at once?
Nope, it was going out in stages, though I guess I was one of the last as I had to sitemail them because I'm one of those who doesn't get emails or newsletters despite being opted in. Thread here: http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=333260&page=1

Those who haven't done it yet: when it's your turn, take your time. As soon as I hit 'done' I thought of a whole lot more I should have said.

Maybe they want to know how I feel about the 17 cents I got for my latest sale.
There are spaces where you can mention exactly that.

I just looked at this site out of curiosity. Do you require model/property releases? Are you selling for commercial use? I ask because I found a photo of a horse race where the colours/patterns of the silks can be clearly seen and I'm well impressed if the photographer managed to get property releases from all the owners and model releases from all the jockeys. I guess the tog might have changed the colours of the silks, but the particular pic I'm talking about would need model releases on other sites nowadays. The 'related items' are hilariously random.

Does inspector make our file size smaller to allow the image to pass inspection?
In other words, if the original file size was XXL, will an inspector make it XL or smaller so the image can pass inspection? Just curious.
Recently I had a note from the inspector in the rejection asking me to downsize a file. I did, and it went through on resubmission.

Are there any other exclusives here seeing an 80% drop in daily income from their summertime average? Incredible really, this is the worst I've seen on iStock.
Nope; although my dls are low, especially this week, they're a bit better than last August, and $$ better than. That probably speaks more to how bad last August was for me. However, I had a really poor Jan - May compared to previous years.

Alamy: 60%
Or, to be precise, 60% if sold directly through Alamy, 40% if sold through a distributor.

The location of the buyer should have no bearing on the search resukts IMO.Istockphoto would tell you after extensive market research(bull...) americans would like american files first and foremost in there search resukts...Lets all move to america and get shot !!!!!
Police have arrested more than 3,000 people over riots that erupted Aug. 6 in north London and flared for four nights across the capital and other English cities. A 16-year-old boy was ordered Tuesday to stand trial for the murder of a retiree attacked when he confronted rioters in London. Five people died during the unrest, including three men hit by a car in Birmingham, central England as they protected local shops from looters. Two men and a teenage boy have been charged with murdering Haroon Jahan, 20, and brothers Shazad Ali, 30, and Abdul Musavir, 31. Several suspects have also been questioned about the death of a man who was shot in the head during rioting in south London.
Yeah, but that's all irrelevant to iStock. For the moment at least.

Can one buy all the series of his cartoons and publish as a book, with a regular license?
To publish a book, you would need an Extended Licence, I suppose (like with calenders or posters for resale), but otherwise than that: Yes, you could make a book out of them.
I don't know they would use them to publish a book. You'd have to have a story line and I don't think one page would quite do it. I could see them being used in newspaper's in the comic section.
There are lots of paperback books which are compliations of series (not serials) of cartoons, e.g. from newspapers or from the web. Out ofn interest, how many imprints do you get at Fotolia without needing an EL? It's 500,000 on iStock, which IMO is way too high, as there can't be many pubications run to 1/2 million copies, at least outside the States, China an one or two other countries.

I just searched Dublin (Ireland - county Dublin) again to see if my fairly recent uploads had risen in the best match. 0 results logged in in Firefox, even after three refreshes and 0 results logged out in IE. I'm sure it's "just a glitch" and that it will be OK in a minute or two, but like the last time (a couple of weeks ago) I wonder how often it happens, and how much it puts off buyers - do they have tactics to deal with it, 'try again in a few minutes' or 'go elsewhere' like you'd do if a shop had a 'back in ten minutes' sign and you were in a hurry. (The last time, I searched on 'horse', got thousands of hits, then searched on Dublin and the results came up. This time I got the thousands of 'horse' hits, but when I tried Dublin again, 0 results.) Later: Now working, but that was almost 20 minutes from when I first tried to when I got a result. Later Still: I SM'd Kelvin to ask him to add it to the bugs list, but as it's unreplicable, I'm not holding my breath for it to be fixed.

@ShadySue
You can also try (in the future) holding the alt key and pressing the left arrow key. This works like the back button on your browser, but does not reload the page. I often use it if forms don't work.
Ooooh, how will I remember this one? I'll try putting it i the front of my diary. Tx.

I am still more than happy with the way Istock is performing. How about YOU. what would you see as the future and how best would it serve your needs?
I've just spent half an hour researching, captioning, describing and keywording an editorial image, pressed 'send' and I've been LOGGED OUT and have it all to do again. NOT happy.
Aaaah!! It won't help for this time, but next time it happens, try hitting the back button on the browser.. the same thing happened to me the other day and after logging in then hitting 'back' a few times - to my surprise - there was my image almost ready to submit, with all the disambigs and categories maintained. [that was using Chrome on Win7]
Oooooh, interesting, thanks. Wonder if it works with FF.

Last week when adding a banner to a file's description, I noticed the file had 2 dls on it's home page, but only 1 reported on the upload page. I probably wouldn't have noticed, except that it had only just been accepted and 2 dls with only 4 views would have been a world record for me. Anyway, when the second sale didn't report itself in a few days, I contacted Support and they said it was a glitch, there was only one sale, and it would be fixed 'sometime'. (It's still showing as two sales on its 'home page'). Probably nothing to worry about, but whatever causes that kind of glitch could cause others.

I've just had two dls, one agency....so that helps. but my numbers are way below where they would normally be and I'm getting very similar reports from contributors who I tend to keep tabs with. they're not just down, they are in a dl desert today like me....I'm sure it isn't true for everyone, it never is. and I don't wish it on anyone! thanks for the feedback all...
I got only my third dl of the day but it was an EL

you're right. sorry, should have reread my comment before posting. I meant that I should have 60% of my normal average for daily dls by now and I have not had a single sale since last night, which is unprecedented for me on a weekday.
Just to let you know it's a big Catholic holiday today, that could be the reason for not getting anything so far (from the larger part of Europe), sales in North America have really just started a few hours ago...
well, thank you, hope it's that though I doubt a holiday like that would cause a total shutdown. I even get dls on Christmas
JFI, no holiday in the UK. But yes, sales are grim.

Welcome to the forum! Yes, it's a security measure - you can't start a new thread until you have at least one post, it's explained here: http://www.microstockgroup.com/newby-discussion/why-can%27t-i-start-a-new-thread/
Regarding the cc frauds, I didn't have any recently luckily but it's important that we keep posting here as they happen
Cheers for that. I wasn't actually suggesting it was fraud for sure though. I am only trying to determine if it might be and if there was a pattern forming today on iStock and/or if it was an isolated case. I do hope they are legit sales of course, for various reasons obviously, and was hoping to compare notes with anyone that might have experienced any similar activity today.
Thanks.
I don't have that experience, but it might be worth contacting Support, if possible by phone for a quick answer. That could put your mind at rest if it's legit (odd for a Sunday, for sure), but could prompt them into checking it out if there might be an issue.

I did the test a few minutes ago, and as far as Belgium is concerned, there's no such thing as location aware search. Have a look at the results for cityscape/football/harbor/pregnant : ...
Four hours later, but none of my searches is the same as yours and all my top 5 football(player)s are different. (UK) Whatever keywords are chosen for the search, it should be specified whether we just go with the generic keyword, e.g. 'football'. or one of the DAs i.e. (in this case): Football (Ball) American Football (Team Sport) Football Field Football Helmet Football Player football - nfl ..NFL American Football Judge er, why isn't 'Soccer' a DA of Football, since football is what we (in the UK) call 'soccer', and I'm guessing when Brits search for 'football', they're hoping for images of 'soccer' (else they'd search on "American Football" or "Aussie Rules football").

Could someone who is going take part in the live chat tomorrow please ask Mr Pinney what he means by, "imagery that has a different kind of integrity". Does he just mean 'a different kind of imagery', i.e. editorial-lite for blogs, which is where he seems to have located iStock editorial offerings. Or does he mean 'a different kind of integrity' in like wise to JJRD's "different kind of trust"?
