The same rules apply for the red crescent I guess...
Yes, and the Red Crystal.

Hmm, I happened onto this website ookaboo, "ookaboo: free pictures of everything on earth". at first, I thought it was just for schools, but I see this photo, of five living US presidents: http://ookaboo.com/o/pictures/picture/3965826/President_George_Wwith this Legal Notice: "Can I use this image for my creative project? Yes! This image is in the public domain and may be used for any purpose, commercial or not. We believe that you should give attribution to the photographer, but this is not required." Which is the same notice as is on a random selection of other images on the site. Someone is going to be in very big trouble one day, when someone uses that (or any of many others) image commercially, for 'any purpose'.

The red cross symbol is an inversion of the Swiss flag, I believe.
That's what I was led to believe (since primary school days, and it was also in a textbook I used when teaching), but that wikipedia article suggests that wasn't so. I don't have time to check it out right now, though.

The ICRC's efforts to control their symbol are entirely reasonable, given that the red cross is seen as a guarantee of the highest standards of medical/humanitarian materials and work. It's a pretty dull, LCV sort of row of chairs. Why worry about it? And what use can a red cross be put to which is not related to trying to gain credibility from the reputation of the ICRC?
I realize that the image is not that successful but was just curious about the reason for the rejection.
I'm sure they'll always err on the side of caution.

Does that mean that a picture like this would not be acceptable?
http://www.knowledgedoctor.com/pages/diagnosis.htm
nor this?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_George%27s_Cross
That use on a first aid kit would not be alloweed. The St George's Cross is allowed, as it is a different shape. However, I notice this on Wikipedia: "There is an unofficial agreement within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement that the shape of the cross should be a cross composed of five squares. However, regardless of the shape, any Red Cross on white background should be valid and must be recognized as a protection symbol in conflict. "That persumably is incorrect, as the St George's Cross and its use on the English flag considerably predates the Red Cross.

It just started working again for me today in the latest Firefox (5.0.1). I'm on a Mac. Have you downloaded the latest extension?
I just upgraded to 5.0.1 (Win) (doesn't FF automatically encourage you to upgrade nowadays?), but I got the message that the Google extension isn't compatible with FF 5.0.1. Maybe it doesn't matter. When it came out at first, I found all sorts of uses and misuses. I wrote to two bloggers and they took the pics down and apologised. I'd hoped they might license th image, but they were totally private bloggers, so not hopeful - but a result. Then we got the nippy note in the iStock forum about not contacting buyers directly, so then next six or so I wrote to Support about and have heard nothing since (apart from an acknowledgement of receipt of my support tickets). No surprise there. I guess if I find any more, I'll be contacting them directly, unless it's a commercial website.

Anyone got it working on the latest version of FF yet? I'm still getting the 'not compatible' message.

(Just out of interest you don't have a pseudonym as Lobo in another place do you?)
Oh no, Shankie and I, and some others here, are in the happy Land of the Lobotomised.

As well as what's been said above about them having trashed contributors so much they no longer feel like contributing, and helping others could be harming yourself with the RCs thing, it's very significant that very few admins/inspectors post now (since the September shocker). At that time, it seemed like they'd been banned from commenting on the Major Issue, but very few have returned. As a result, a lot of genuine questions aren't having proper resolutions, just being tossed around by peers with their opinions, then a snippy interjection from a moderator to 'take it to Support/Scout', which might be OK except that they can get lost there (I've still got outstanding Support and Scout tickets since mid-March, though others have had very fast replies, and I've got a couple of later ones which have been answered) and as we all know, the answer you get from Support staff depends on who answers your query on the day.

What does 'BaseContributors' mean?
Not Bronze or above. Or with people like me, No Canister. Under 300 DLs
Isn't it still 250 dls/50% acceptance for Bronze?

So istock were correct in making this new collection available to buyers because contributors who added content into the collection are having sales.Everyones happy..Istock-Contributors-Buyers.Life is simple .
Yup, and for the really simple-minded, there's always The Pound Shop, i.e. Thinkstock. But the big difference is that some of the Thinkstock offerings are pretty high quality at unsustainable prices.

Still no word as to why contributors did not see any PP payments this weekend.
It's another c0ck-up, what more is there to say?
Isn't it funny how they never cock-up when they're getting money out of us, i.e. clawback, %age reductions etc.

I don't think $132 is going to send you to Africa where you will take some awesome wildlife photography that will earn you a few more pitiful sales.
And even if it did, the sort of stuff people want to buy is oversaturated, and the more niche stuff (unusual species, unusual behaviour) may get you one, two or no sales on micro. Trust me, there's no value in having the only example of something on a micro site if precious few buyers are interested in that subject.

I'm not sure you're right, but then again, subtitles could be wrong I just checked it with subtitles, here's a screenshot:
Yup, it's the bit the subtitles have put as alar -rm - the hyphen denoting the non-specific vowel.

I wonder what burr means? You don't pronounce r at the end of a syllable? I thought Scottish English does have r at the end of syllables.
No, it's actually a speech impediment, like a lisp but with 'R's, not 'S's. So Jonathan Ross would pronounce his name 'Woss', and so, apparently do I. It runs in my Mum's side of the family - they've all got it, so it must be a dominant gene. My sister has the worst of it, as she's called Barbara. My Mum took me to a GP to try to get me to a speech the'w'apist as soon as I began to talk. He told her to take me back when I was twelve. I remember being marched to a newer, younger GP about the day after my twelvth birthday to be told I was 'far too old'. In the Grand Scale of Things, it hardly matters - it hasn't held back Wossy.

Does anyone know what these big slatted adverts which look like venetian blinds, where the slats individually rotate to change the adverts, is actually called? Often seen in railway stations. (Not the Jumbotrons like in Times Square). TIA.

Ah, Will, you're learning that not all that glisters is gold. Always bear in mind the 'T' word.

And I'd like to hear ShadySue say burglar alarm (hint yesterday's top gear;)
I guess we're on different episodes of TG. Yesterday they were using a Jaguar to pull a string of caravans along a railway line to illustrate how trains could/should be cheaper. (But now that I think about it, I missed the beginning of the prog.)
No, we're on the same one, they were talking again how Germans, no matter how perfect their English is can say squirrel properly and than wanted to do another test and asked the audience if there are any Glasgowegians among them, one stepped forward and they asked him to say burglar alarm. Of course they laughed their asses off when he went burrr-glarr alarrrm . And Hammond tried to imitate him a couple of times, almost got it right (he's better speaking hillbilly or redneck whichever you prefer). Check out the rerun, although you'll hear nothing new, just say it loud
Oh, I did see that near the end. My accent is even worse as I have a burr (can't say my Rs properly, think Jonathan Ross if you've ever heard of him). I suspect it was the alarrr um bit they were laughing at. There's a name for that in phonetics, but I can't remember it - putting unaccented vowels between consonants. We also say wurr uld for world. But a lot of English say something between 'alam/alom' and between 'wuld/woald' without the 'r'. I'm just back from Dublin and am getting my head round how we pronounce 'slainte' (as in slainte mhath) something like 'slanj' and the Irish seem to pronounce it something like 'slond'.

I am also going to be buying Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom soon to help aid my photos.
Although if you're a student you can get these at a great discount, seriously consider buying Elements and using the savings to add to your camera/lens fund.
I didn't think you could use (officially) student versions for commercial works even if you are a student.
You couldn't back at PS7, but you can now.

Hope contributors are still adding all the same keywords to a series and picking maybe one/two for exclusive+.Looks very professional to a buyer when they show up in there search !
It would be unprofessional to use the wrong keywords, but most of us already knew that. Your point was ... ?
. sister images at different prices.Contributors just using there exclusive + slots with normal microstock files which do not deserve to be in the higher price tier.
I go to John Lewis, Debenhams, Frasers, woteva and there are lots of goods keyworded 'blue', 'denim' and 'jeans' at vastly different prices from 'own brand' to 'designer'. The 'designer' jeans aren't necessarily better fitting or harder wearing than the 'own brand'. It's a model people are very used to in the real world. Since you feel so strongly about it, why not do the buyers a real favour and become independent and your prices will automatically drop down. Hint: if buyers don't think a file doesn't 'deserve' to be in a higher price tier, they won't buy it, if they can find what they need cheaper. Just like at John Lewis.

Just created a topic regarding my portfolio, you can read and comment on it here:
http://www.microstockgroup.com/photo-critique/my-style/
Thanks
BTW: I reajusted the size when I uploaded to fit message boards better, instead of posting the images in the topic I sent a link to a slideshow of the images via [url]imageshack.us[url]
You appear to live, as I do, in an area with predominatly flat light. IStock don't like flat light (or contrasty or dappled light either). Can't honestly see any of the photos you have there being accepted, far less selling (sorry).
