Sounds like lots of free-to-shoot models!
My flavours: Nikon, BMW, Apple, coffee over tea, chardonnay over sav blanc, shiraz over merlot, beef over chicken, beach over country and autumn. 
We share seven of nine favorite interests (CANON  )
yes lots of free models, although only one is keen and has personality. no agency wants pets, although mine are ageing so perhaps i'll hit a new market: "ageing pets". i won't hold the Canon thing against you, plenty of my good friends shoot Canon  Just wish I could make more Nikon friends so I can borrow stuff!

All I can imagine is that the photographer didn't adequately explain where the photos would be going to the model.
I wonder how many stockers who use models have explained anything like this sort of potential use.
There's no way to know, I guess but really - what's the big deal? Being depicted as missing half a leg is offensive or something? He's a model - isn't he supposed to be "playing a role"? Or does he just expect to be cast as the "generic fat guy doing nothing" for the rest of his career?
I wasn't thinking about him in particular, or even this exact use, but the other people (family, friends, strangers in the street) who model for far less than $500 a shoot and wouldn't really consider themselves actors or even models.
lol. you really want to start telling people they might end up as the face of a new hemorrhoid product?

we bought our 3 kids (all under 10) cheapo p&s cameras last year, they have spent enough time with me on shoots to at least know the basics of holding the camera and learning to compose. That's enough for now, I wouldn't even bother trying to teach them to master an SLR in manual mode until they are teens.
IMO, you only teach them to 'master an SLR in manual mode' when they themselves decide it's necessary for them to do so. Whether that's 7, 70 or never. Same with most other things, really, when there's a need and readiness for learning. Which would be when they want to do something that they can't really do without using manual. So they have a want and a need.
Very true.... although given it's a skill I can pass on to them, like baking, choosing a good red and avoiding housework, I will be very sure to teach my girls these skills whether they like it or not. They'll thank me later.

Total newbie, uploaded about 40 images from my fledgling portfolio (total 70 to date). After a few days of nothing I got one view and one sale. Best Graph Ever. It can only go downhill from this glorious statistical moment.

This is just bizarre. The composition is only vaguely similar. The black and white with the red bus is similar, but I'd be interested to know how the original photographer can prove they came up with the idea first. I've seen that sort of thing in photo mag tutorials and photo club competitions for many years. Another very popular one is Manhattan in mono with only the yellow cabs yellow.
exactly what I was going to say. In fact, we wouldn't have dreamed of doing a shot like this when I was at photography school cos it's just sooooooo cliched.

And categories. Categories are a useless anachronism, and a plague.
I'm only new but I also was wondering what the heck categories are for, as I assume most buyers search using keywords. I can only presume that if you can't fit your image into a category then it's not worthy, which is a fairly good filter from their pov....

I think what we forget about kids is that they are short, so they take images at 3' and the world looks very different from that angle. i wouldn't say that makes my kids images brilliant, it just give their images such a different look from the average pic.

I think it's just a matter of taste - and a lot of the reviewers at the micros don't have a taste for this sort of image.
bugger! my most absolute fav thing in the whole world is to shoot f&v at farmer's markets... *sigh* I'm still forcing myself to grasp the notion of "natural/authentic" and accept that I have to change if I want to make successful images.

I wonder why the photographer lied? That is probably the part in this that is most creepy. He shot the guy in a studio, so he probably spent a few hours with the guy, certainly had a signed release, and should be able to find it fairly easily. Perhaps he panicked and instead of saying "no comment" the lie came out first.

Hi I'm Gillian, I'm new to the site and quite new to microstock. I've dabbled a little this past year and have a very modest portfolio, but looking at really concentrating on it this year. ouch, having just turned 40 being in the group 40-50 is a bit of a shock. I don't mind being 40, but I'm hoping it's a loooong road to 50.
