Our strong is suitable for the Japanese culture environment. And it also our weakness.
If you can make yourself the go-to for Japanese culture (and charge better prices than you are at present), why not stick at what you know? At this stage, there's no point in taking on the giants at their own game.

3rd BMY but low rpd ($1.62); worst October ever (since 2007).

Yup, I had exactly that yesterday, a $50 (gross) image refunded. Is this the same as yours, by any chance? Country: Worldwide Usage: Editorial, Editorial - websites, apps, social media and blogs (excludes advertising). Worldwide for 5 years. Media: Editorial website Image Size: Any size Start: 28 October 2018 End: 28 October 2023 We have to hope that it will be rebought, which I think all of mine - except one - have been, albeit at lower prices. It seems that they buy images, then are due a bulk discount, hence the refund/rebuy. Sometimes they have been rebought at the same price, more or less a few cents (which is said to be currency conversion rates on different days) but I don't know the reason for them. Fingers crossed.

The worst of it is that not only do Alamy not penalise "trusted" buyers for not reporting uses/re-uses, but they don't charge then what they should have paid at the time, but the current price, which IME at least is always lower. So there's no incentive for them to be honest.
Of course, Alamy has been nobbled by micro editorial, but that shouldn't affect Live News.

You won't sell flower photos, even if much better, if they're not properly identified. Putting random flower names in just won't cut it.

Hello. I'm kind of new in Adobe and I did my first sale today . But it was a 0.2 sale. I have only had lowest sales in iStock lol. Is it normal? I thought, since they are VERY picky with pictures, they had a better payment per subscription download. I thought it was like 0.31 or something. Should I ask them?
Ask them if you want, or do your own research and find out for yourself. According to their royalties page, if you're a White (ranking below Bronze) and the file is XS, it would cost one credit, which I see as being 1 Euro, and you get 20%. So if in the US a credit is $1 and you're White (ranking), 20c would be correct. https://eu.fotolia.com/Info/Contributors/Royalties

If newbies and photo enthusiasts jump on board and can find the motivation to shoot for this sort of return then SS and Alamy will both end up over supplied with 200 million images.
Alamy? Why lump Alamy with SS? Prices at Alamy are generally much higher (but far fewer sales). Maybe you meant to say Adobe? I totally agree with your sentiment, and wouldn't get out of bed to supply SS or Adobe, but I'm still supplying Alamy.

This is a very valuable information. I was shocked to find here.
Yes you like that phrase, you posted it twice in different threads to say :
"This is a very valuable information. I was shocked to find here."
Why is that?
It's a common pattern of those posting the required minimum of posts before they can spam us, as you know!

The number of votes is whole numbers!
Then how do I interpret "Shutterstock 86.7"? or "AdobeStock 47.1"? or any of the others with only a single number, which is not integral?
That's the 'score'. Hover over the agency name (not iS exc) and you'll find the number of voters, which UnclePete quotes above.

Am I the only one that has no idea what these numbers mean? Clearly not the number of people on each agency, since I think we only have entire people, not decimal portions of them...?

It's interesting, but of course if there was a rush to join e.g. ClipartOf, if it was allowed, all that would do would be to make the slices of ClipartOf's pie thinner.

I am still very new at this and just learning the ropes. Could you give me an explanation for the difference between Editorial and Commercial. I have read some descriptions, but I still don't get it. If you sell a photos and some used it , that seems like it is one in the same. How does it being marked Editorial make it different? Thanks.
Editorial files can only be used editorially, for example in a newspaper, magazine or textbook, guide book etc. Commercial files can be used commercially, for example to advertise goods or services. Sometimes it can be up to the agency, for example iS specifically doesn't (or at least didn't used to) allow editorial files to be used in advertorials, Alamy seems to allow that.

Listen to Sean! he's correct!
Alamy would need a model release (or it could be used editorially only) for the boy, not sure about the dog.

The thing is that someone wanting a rare image probably won't look at micro first (partly because of so many poor identification and too much spamming), but the agencies which specialise in e.g. rare wildlife usually have requirements including a large initial submission and the promise of 'so many' images to be submitted per month or per quarter; they don't usually (none that I know of, but there must be many I haven't even heard of, I mean the ones who are named in nature publications I read) take one 'odd' photo, even of a very rare creature.

Depends on each agency's rules.

Thanks! Interesting results for North America. About 75% of the photographers make less $40,000 which I consider the 'bare' minimum to make a full time living.
Presumably that's why the conclusion is "the business of stock photography has become more of a part-time, supplementary source of income and no longer a viable career."And again, the results just says 'income', I can't remember if that was specifed in the survey as 'gross income', 'gross pre-tax income', 'net pre-tax income' or 'net take-home income'.

Thank you David. I think you're right. I live in Europe. Maybe Fine-Art-America is the wrong place for me. I just thought it was the biggest site (most traffic)
I think that's right, not aware of any better site for your purpose. However, by far the most buyers are from the US. Also you will benefit by doing your own marketing, as they don't do much. I do pick up occasional sales with no marketing at all; but some of the most successful sellers seem to have no searchable caption or keywords, they are just using FAA for fulfilment. Shipping can be pretty expensive.

i have a photo of dubai who was in first line in a search of more than 75000 image of dubai ...it sells everyday ..near 1000 sales, now slipped already in 2 page...and clearly not sold for the last days...thanks shuttestock. now i understand the lost of sales of last days...good job ss
Again, that's just SS replicating what iS did a few years back. I had some of my iS best-sellers disappear without trace overnight, went from the top line of best match search to below page 100.

Voter suppression continues, I see.
You believe the lies
So you say that e.g. this isn't true: https://tinyurl.com/yafwaofh

Actually boycotting did work extremely well with the Dollar Photo Club
iStock never really recovered or regained its glory after people left either. None of it is a death sentence, but it seems like there are impacts and repercussions.
I'm not sure that the boycott had any direct effect on iS. Getty did a brilliant hatchet job on them, without help from contributors, by ignoring all concerns.

Vote? For who?
I think he's talking to USians, who have some sort of 'mid-term' vote today AIUI.

Hi, i had a sale (31-10-2018) that appears in microstockr but not on the site of Alamy... is it normal?
Where does Microstocker get the data? From Alamy, so what you are saying is logically impossible. Doesn't mean it's not true, but since the reports come from Alamy, how would Microstocker see this and not you?
DACS US the transfer fee is high, I'd rather just let AL do the work.
Good question, no idea how microstockr could see ... but I can say that Alamy updated the information at the end of the day while microstockr had displayed the sale in the morning, the same day ...
So Sammy's reply #1 was correct.

Had only one experience with Alamy quite a few years back but it was so bad I decided not to bother. Every when and then a report like this confirms and while they still send me their contributor mails, I was initially approved, such reports confirm to me to stay away. Personally I feel they have the worst attitude towards contributors I've experienced dealing with quite some of the major and lately also some newer companies.
You've clearly never dealt with iS/Getty, and SS seems to be losing it nowadays. Alamy may not always say what you want, but they are generally fast and polite.
