Featurepics.com / Re: Anyone selling at Featurepics?
« on: January 21, 2010, 12:30 »
Hi Elena,
I think I read somewhere that you can set your own price on your site... is that true? And up to how much can you set it?
Thanks
I know I'm not Elena, but she has microstock and midstock. She has set price stucture for the microstock. The midstock you can set your prices but agree that you don't have these same photos on microstock agencies. I don't remember if there is a requirement to have these midstock images on line or not. As for the midstock you can set your own price up to $75.00, unless she's changed it

General Stock Discussion / Re: Fotolia Rejections
« on: January 21, 2010, 12:04 »
Just returned from Amsterdam from shooting stock images using my Canon 5dII,  I submitted 40 plus great images and only (2) were accepted while the others were rejected with the reason "the quality of the images is not what we desire".  I'm getting real frustrated now with the changing price structure and all the tons of rejections at fotolia. Why even bother to upload and waste your time when you know what the outcome will be?

Do anyone else have this experience?---and please give feedback.
If they are landscapes...just about all the agencies are getting to where they don't accept them any more unless the are a real "eye catching image". They are all flooded with landscape images and they really don't sell on tradition micro stock agencies. My personal experience with Fotolia is alot of rejections. It is my lowest earner. I have never been able to figure out what their style is, but I just upload the same pics I do on all the other sites and enjoy the shock when they do accept the majority ;D

Don't know if this site will help because I didn't do an indepth search, but maybe you can use it. It's for macro stock photography

You'd think flickr would be more strict about this, but I guess they have no control over who places what on there if the person says they are the copyright holder. It seems to be happening more and more.

You know better than me that patroling over a community so vast like Flickr's is nearly impossible.
But I can tell you that they are strict when it comes to CR issues.
If you want to really report something, it's useless to write to the owner or to the staff, the only way to get it right is writing to the Yahoo staff via the link at the bottom of the page "Copyright/IP Policy". Anyway you can always report the problem to the staff just to make sure you have tried all the possible ways.
I will try to remember that in case I need to use it in the future. Hopefully I won't.

ajalbert....I got the same answer...we'll see if they go through with it....I think they will. Here's the e-mail from them.
"Kelly,

Yes I agree to that. Since I thought I was signing up under your promotional I thought I was agreeing to that to begin with. I'm not exclusive with any other agency so it would not be a problem with the six month term. I have photos on several of the Big 6 sites so your conditions would be no problem with me. I can't thank you enough for your understanding in this manner. Next time I will be more careful.
Thank you again for your help. I have many more uploads to finish so I can get them on the site.

here's the reponse to the first e-mail I sent them
"Hello!

You activated Promo Program 19-01-2010 12:28:10 , and we automatically pay
for the images accepted AFTER it is activated.

Have a good day!

Here's the answer to the second e-mail I sent and their response
"Hello!

Program can't be activated automatically because it puts some restrictions
- you can't delete images approved under the action during 6 months, not
all of our authors accept this rules. So action can be activated only by
you after passing the exam. At the Promo page accessible even for
non-logined users all this rules are indicated
(http://depositphotos.com/pages/promo).

From the time it's activated you'll have $0.2 for every accepted image (up
to 500 ones).

Have a good day!"

I've sent them another e-mail saying this
"Kelly,
Sorry to keep bugging you but is there anyway these can be credited under the promotion since that was what I thought I was doing? Everyone keeps telling me I need to explain the situation and you'd proubably understand. I also have pending files and unfinished files that were all uploaded before the 19th. Do I need to delete and resubmit these since these weren't uploaded under the promotion?
Sure would appreciate it if you could help me out here.
Thanks

For those of you who have done this, did you show a balance immediately after the images' acceptance? I uploaded my first 90 a couple of days back- they were all approved but I'm showing no balance. I sent them a message to ask about this  but I thought I'd ask you all first before I get to uploading more. When I go to the PPP section, the promo window reads "already activated".

Thanks!

I guess I should have said don't upload any more untill you get some kind of answer about this. It is rather misleading. Mine said the same thing "already activated", but they say I didn't activate untill the 19th. Sure I'll post. They seem to be pretty quick about it. I'll post the two e-mails I already got from them in another post

Yup...thats the catch 22. You can't activate the promo untill after your initial images are approved...BEFORE you upload any more. I did the same thing and am currently trying to get it resolved. I already had more thatn 90 approved which I won't get money for. I've got 30+ sitting in the pending bin and over 250 in the uploaded unfinished bin. This were uploaded before the activation and even thought they are not finished yet, I'm going to wait till I see what they say. Hopefully they will coroporate.

Just don't be stupid like me and register through the promo link on the main page then upload your 5 photos then after they are approved upload 90 more  and get them approved before you realize you have to click on that promo tag on the photographers main page to activate it. I thought since I registered through the promo link on the main page that when I got throught the initial test upload it would already be on the promo, but I was wrong. Just want to make sure no one else gets caught by this.  I'm trying to get them to understand what happened. I still got over 200 waiting to be finished and another 30+ in pending. Hopefully they will understand what happened. Well see.

I'm going to post a comment on one of his other photos praising him about being this great photographer and see if he bites. I'm going to try to find out how he got these images. Johathan the one with the dogs is in no doubt your's. Man these people are getting balls...no pun intended

Have any of you heard any good or bad about United Camera Repair located in Illinois? I need to get a lens repaired and they gave me an estimate but don't know how reputable they are. Anyone ever used them?

You should contact Flikr. As cclapper just had this problem. It seems to be a recurring problem now.

« on: January 19, 2010, 14:49 »
I have a full time teaching job, kids who are 2 and 3 y.o., and a run-down house and garden that needs tending. One of the kids was born with a paralyzed arm, tests have just shown that the other one is almost deaf. So the next years will be spent running between work, physiotheraphy, sign language classes etc. Microstock photography is my escape.
gaja....sounds like you have your hands full. Thanks for sharing that. It can see why photography is your escape

I just got an email back from yahoo saying the appropriate action has been taken. When I go to the page I provided a link for above, it says This Photo is Private. Oops You Don't Have Permission to View This Photo. To me, that means he has just added a password protect so I can't see it. The image is likely STILL up and STILL being offered for download to whoever he gives a password to.

I replied to yahoo saying the above, and saying they did not take the appropriate action. The photo needs to not be offered for download and I would like proof that that has happened.

Could I ask a favor... can someone go check that link again and see what it says for you? Would appreciate it. Thanks.
This is what I saw
"gdcflickr doesn't have anything available to you."

Cathy have you checked the other free sites?

Wow this guy has a bunch of images. He's proubably adding daily. That's the same ear of corn you had problems with before. Wonder if this was where the other person got the photo for his alteration or is it the same person? Do you know?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: To go exclusive or not?
« on: January 19, 2010, 10:20 »
Once you go exclusive with iStock...can you decide it doesn't work for you then change it with a new portfolio or are you locked into it forever?

You can decide to retreat from exclusivity anytime with 30 days notice. So if you decide exclusivity is not the right thing for you, you can change your mind. And iStock will even take you back as exclusive if you decide 3 months later that the experience wasn't worth it. ;-)
Thanks for that info. That might very well help me decide rather to go or not, which I might consider in the future. I was afraid it was like when you purchase something as is...there is no going back. I'm glad they have a policy like that.
