There is document in the Getty contributors site but I think you need to get a password to enter. It explains sistering according to Getty there.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking for ways to get paid from other agencies rather than wire transfer. The transfer cost $15 to $20 per, no matter how big they are and are a rip off in my opinion.

I get paid through PayPal and see that there are no charges for receiving money or transferring it to my bank. I use a corporate account. Plus, what really surprises me, is the exchange rate is as good as a charter bank gives. No complaints obviously. Now when I sell something on eBay I get dinged a service charge to receive money. This is a personal account. Is this the same for you people who get paid into a personal account from micros? ie no charges.

My God... people what's wrong with you all??
I agree Whitechild, there seems to be a ery high level of rudeness about these days. Forums are great for spirited debates and should be. But plain, schoolyard name calling serves no one, especially those who sign on to actually learn something. It's not just this post I've seen it in many the past while. Here is my word of the day, decorum |diˈkrəm| noun behavior in keeping with good taste and propriety : you exhibit remarkable modesty and decorum. etiquette : he had no idea of funeral decorum. (usu. decorums) archaic a particular requirement of good taste and propriety. Peter

I agree with your concerns and it certainly is making me wonder about the whole notion of micro as a viable business. As your own example illustrates, this has nothing to do with microstock per se.
Very true, it has nothing to do micro. It's just in many cases trad agencies will go after those infringing on their rights. In my case a simple note to the offender quickly cured the problem. Perhaps I am generalizing too much, its just that when I combine all the possible problems with micro I start to feel a bit uneasy.

Yuri,
I had someone lift images off a traditional site, not micro, and use them as the thieve's own on Facebook. The model called me one day and explained how a friend had seen their picture attached to a name and identity that was obviously not theirs. This guy was clearly not happy with his own ugly mug so he thought he'd enhance his possibilities of gaining friends by getting a face job, so to speak.
I agree with your concerns and it certainly is making me wonder about the whole notion of micro as a viable business.

Moving the store and changing the name is probably more accurate. Perhaps tweaking the inventory on the way. Then there's the changing of price structure. I can't say it's a bad thing. I see it as a positive move.

I had a request for an additional format , a RAW file in this case from a buyer. What gives here? Is there extra money in it or are they looking to manipulate the image further? There's an option to ignore the request which is what I will do. A buck doesn't allow for much in the way of extra customer service.

There has to be zillions of slightly older PS cameras available for next to nothing. Just buy one of those. If it breaks it's not a big deal. I got my daughter a camera when she was four as well. I didn't want to but my wife said she's be fine and she was. The camera never broke, now she's seven and we bought her a G10. It's a good lesson in responsibility.

PC's have a lot more benefit than the looks of the box they come in.
Pickup trucks have more benefits than a sports cars.

There are many large companies who have regional i.e. country specific websites. The product lists and specs vary from region to region as do marketing needs and methods. So although any site can be reached from anywhere usually, the customers go to the site that is for their country.
Never ever be afraid to quote big numbers for your images, it's only scary the first couple of times. Be aware that even now, sales into the many thousands of dollars per image occur often.

There seems to always be an argument about which way is best. There's probably no clear cut answer. However I find basic upsizing in Lightroom adequate for the job.

A release protects you from being sued by some person claiming (untruthfully) that the image is of them and you didn't have their permission. Hence the need for a witness. Without it it's just your word against theirs.
I think there are many legal precedents that makes the above statement regarding witnesses untrue. I'm sure some lawyer decided a witness would be a good idea and now every body stands up and tells you this is an absolute, but it certainly is not. Getty and Corbis have run for years on releases with no witness. You can bet that they both consulted lawyers in this regard. The many agencies they purchased over the years have all run on release with no witness. I believe legal challenges have been made during that time and I don't think a court ever threw out a release because of lack of witness. Peter

When available light is good it's hard to beat but it's also hard to dial it up when you want. I just bought a Chimera Octaplus 57. I've only been using the 5 footer so far and find it very pleasing. I've seen some really cool images from the 7 footer while using it like a ring light standing right in front of it.

This may be silly but macs are so much more elegant looking. Both in OS and styling. As a creative I think it makes a difference to me. I have and have had many PCs right from the first XT. I've never ever seen a pretty one.

MikLav, that's cool BUT some images just have shadows. It's part of the image. There is no way to expose the shadow without the shadow becoming something else besides a shadow and the image becoming something it wasn't meant to be. I think the problem arrises when we try and pull detail out of shadow that is not there.

It's the 28th. Has the new algorithm kicked in? Was it supposed to happen in January?

i have a vast range of day rates I charge clients. I still work as hard for each and use what little creativity I can muster for each but there is well over a 50 fold difference in what I will charge a client. As for RM stock, same thing goes. I've had sales of $10K and $10 for the same image. I know there is a lot more usage associated with the higher price but the fact is a lot more was paid for the same exact image in one case compared to the other. I honestly don't think buyers are that naive. Is micro really the "dirty little secret" anymore? I doubt it.

Yuri does sell on Alamy. (unless everything has been pulled from both accounts in the last month)
I meant he's said he has no sales there.
I don't buy that. I don't see his royalty reports, yet I can absolutely say with all certainty, that he makes sales on Alamy. He has too many images there to not.

The latest. Superstock is sold but no one knows if photographers will ever get paid. New owner did not buy the contracts.

"As a publicly traded company, Superstock had never achieved profitability."
I think it is safe to say that the photographers will never get paid. They are on the bottom of the to-get-paid list. I have a huge stack of envelopes from bankruptcy court that I long ago quite opening.

I did this in 1992. I quit a long standing job as did my wife. We spent most of our savings and came back broke. It was the absolutely best thing I ever did. We bought a Volks van and lived in it for 9 months. Travelled from Vancouver to the Baja then up north to Inuvik and back again. Climbed, hiked, kayaked... Then spent 3 months in Asia, India and Nepal backpacking.
The whole event allowed a compete and total severing of "normal life" and showed us that risks taken, often followed with rewards given an that what is perceived as risky or stressful in daily life is just BS. We understood afterwards that it is easy to get by with less which spawned opportunities to make more. A wonderful paradox really.
Have fun.

Some years ago I asked my editor why they stopped putting out wants lists. List of images that were not in the library and that the agency felt would sell well. His reply was simple enough, "no one ever produces anything from it except the time we asked for a pretty model doing a breast self examination"; which apparently they were deluged with.

Are the model and property release for video the same as for stills? Anything special that needs to be done or said to a release for video? Thanks,
Peter

Don't get me wrong I believe in helping the less fortunate, I just don't believe in helping them make me less fortunate.
As for riding the 'crest of the wave' the forums across most sites are littered with threads by people moaning about the decrease in their sales, are these the same people that have just shared their money making tips with others?
These forums are about sharing information and therefore helping one and other. The degree to which this happens is open to debate but it surely happens. What goes around, comes around.
