Adobe Stock / Re: opt out for sale
« on: August 11, 2015, 06:48 »
I don't think you can temporarily deactivate single images on Fotolia without deleting them from their servers. But you can delete it one image at a time. You only have to re-upload it again if you change your mind, so you'll lose whatever search placement that image had.

Microstock Services / Re: Which is the best payment method ?
« on: August 10, 2015, 10:34 »
I also use PayPal and credit card (Visa). I don't convert USD in EUR. I live in Romania and when I withdraw into my bank account via credit card the USD or EUR convert automatically into LEI/RON (our currency). The fee is 2 EUR or 2.5 $.

It is a little bit hidden (hidden costs).
Paypal charges fees automatic.

USD 100 = EUR 91,16
But Paypal converts from USD 100 to EUR bank account just 85,68 (instead of 91,16)

Odd, the fee is about 2,5%, isn't it? So you should be getting around 87'ish instead of 85,68.

I like the idea of opening a USD ("foreign currency") account at my local bank, and then withdraw from PayPal directly to my USD account, so I'd save on the Paypal conversion rates. However, my local bank charges me a monthly fee for having a USD account, so I wouldn't really profit from it.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock and their selfish thinking
« on: August 09, 2015, 16:30 »
At some point in the not too far future, I'll be able to leave the sinking iStock ship without any real income loss, since my revenue will have hit rock bottom by then.
Until that time, I'll stick around, grabbing what little money I can. In the meantime, I'm focusing on other agencies that do make some money.

I predict iStock will slowly bleed to death within one or two years, unless some miracle is going to happen or Getty pulls the plug.

Even if I would allow DP a free image, I certainly wouldn't let DP choose which images to use.

July and August are also known as Summer Holiday Months, which means buyers are on holiday, therefore sales are down. It's happens every year. Expect an increase in downloads in September.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: more detailed keywords? worth it ?
« on: August 06, 2015, 09:28 »
Although I understand their desire to control keywords with a defined vocabulary (to prevent spelling mistakes, improve definitions and disambiguous words), it's a failed attempt due to their very limited dictionary. It makes keywording very tedious and frustrating, and buyers may feel they're not getting the images they want because specific keywords are being generalized while other keywords are too specific.

So yes, try to detail your keywords the best you can. It may improve sales, but then again, lately it doesn't seem to make a difference anymore due to general lack of sales.

Most of your sprites look very good, perhaps you could use your skills to create vj music backgrounds and visual fx videos, making those game-related effects more suited for general use.

Canva / Re: Canva
« on: August 05, 2015, 04:51 »
From what I hear, it sounds like they're just trolling contributors with their weird deletions.

I hope that once vectors are being ingested, they'll have a good idea of what they want, but I'm afraid by the time that happens, they'll have lost all goodwill. This policy of deleting images simply pisses off contributors and buyers alike, hampering Canva's growth and leaving many people unsure of where it's headed.

Such a waste of what initially sounded like a promising new agency. Playing these kind of frustrating games with their contributors is detrimental to their image.

And I didn't get my login details. Thank you iStock, what a service.

Don't worry, there are even fewer people posting there than on the old forums - the new ones have a worse UI, IMO.

Might be, but every once in a while, important news will be announced via the iStock forums. Without access, I might miss out on news. Then again, thanks to the MSG forums I can stay updated anyway.

I don't know why you wouldn't get access (I've been banned for years, but I have access). Did you try the method in the link?
Note that a condition of entry to the new forums is that info there was not shared outwith the forum.

I tried your link and I received my password today, thanks.

Looking at all of your threads, your life must be an emotional rollercoaster filled with moments of disappointment the previous day and excitement the next...

Can't you just keep it all in a single thread titled: "my emotions from day to day"? Or better yet, keep a diary.

Haha!

1st 4k sale on VideoBlocks in a while and realized how great the 100% commission is.  Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you.

You didn't. But promise me you're not gonna start a new thread called 'I am disappointed in Videoblocks this week' after this.

Congrats anyway, I have yet to get a first 4K sale anywhere. Hope it's going to be at VB.

General - Stock Video / Re: Revostock Payments
« on: August 03, 2015, 18:31 »
Very sad to hear they're not paying you guys. I understand they've had some bad luck with patent trolls, but that's no excuse to not communicate about your payments, especially now that the lawsuit was dropped.

What's their excuse now for not paying?

Glad I trusted my instincts and didn't upload there then. Does anyone have a copy of their contract terms that they can post? Without signing up you don't really get access to it.

I don't understand how they can just change something as huge as that and not have to release people.

It's called greed. Dissolve is on a dive to the bottom and they just want to grab as much cash on the way as they can.

DO NOT UPLOAD TO DISSOLVE!

In hindsight I'm glad I wasn't accepted as a contributor last month.

Dissolve / Re: Dissolve price update
« on: July 31, 2015, 07:51 »
"Again : ie. Price Fixing - "antitrust laws require that each company establish prices and other terms on its own, without agreeing with a competitor"

Nope.  Agreement can be one sided.  If they can't establish their own pricing without following another, that's fixing.  It's right there.

For example, I agree with you ( thought I don't :) ).

It's not price fixing. This is a price war, which is completely legal. Supermarkets do it all the time.
Agreement is this specific sense means an agreement/deal between two parties. Dissolve has decided to change prices unilaterally, therefore, it's not price fixing.

Apparently, Adobe/Fotolia has changed the watermark on video previews. Now, all I see is a very tiny "Fotolia" watermark in the upper left corner. Not really good protection, is it? Why not just a big watermark in the middle, as you do with photos and vectors?

ZeroTalent and RoseTintedGlasses, for two oldtimers you sure act like two bickering kids. Stop destroying this thread with your personal war or go elsewhere.

Ontopic:
I think it's not too late to start in microstock, but the returns will be less than a couple of years ago. It simply takes more work and more talent than it did then to make a nice income. It also depends on your expectations and goals.
I joined around 2009-2010, and I sometimes wish I had started in 2005. But I'm doing okay now, even though it's still 'something on the side'.

Yes, Lobo will be gone. New forum admin: Peebert.

Did Lobo lose his job or will he stay with Istock?

I don't expect to receive my login credentials either, as I was banned from the old forum as well. But maybe we get to start with a clean slate?

« on: July 27, 2015, 18:51 »
Yeah, SS isn't doing well these days, compared to other months or even last July. But sales are down everywhere, in my experience. I have no idea where buyers have gone to.

1475
I think vectors give slightly higher RPD's, there's less competition and they're cheaper to make. It takes more time to make them but require less equipment.

On the other hand, I think there's more demand for photos.
