Someone at Yaymicro should employ her, she's more successful at marketing than they are.

Off Topic / Re: How Should I Paint my Office?
« on: January 22, 2009, 13:21 »
Firstly without trying to sound rude I always thought you were a bloke  :D

As for colour on your walls, it won't matter what colour you paint them as long as you make sure it's uniform and not lit, because the monitor will give out more light than it will receive in reflections if you get my meaning, yes you're right about the light being behind.

Paint it a colour you can live with, and light it how you like as long as they don't shine on the monitor it will be fine, because once you're set up wack a spyder on your monitor and it will calibrate it to suit the lighting levels.

Again for your shooting area, if you're using strobes they will negate any colour spill from your walls or surrounding, I've just built a new studio and the area with the infinity wall is pure white all around, I have six spotlights shining on it but if I set my camera to the flash sync and take a shot it will come out black, it's the strobes that provide the light as and when it's needed, and for the area you've described it sounds like you could easily use boards/flags to mask off your shooting area when required.

So I say go with a colour that makes you feel happy.

I've just read through the last replies and now I've seen the one by 'whatalife' I think mine looks s**t, I vote for 'whatalifes' but just with the logo at the top and the row of people and text underneath, I don't think you need to repeat the site name twice.

Oh and pump up the orange a bit.

I've had a quick go, I'm not sure about the colours now though. Leaf I couldn't find that font.

all the tips and tricks are soo easily traded on blogs, forums and other media that it is a shoot yourself in the foot way to go.

This is what I think is the biggest downfall in microstock, I know some people feel the urge to share their knowledge but generally speaking in the end it helps others to take away their income.

By the way Jay how's the blog coming along :D

But if you believe in karma, the good you give you get back ...
so those who share will still be riding the crest of the wave, don't you think so  ???  ;)

Don't get me wrong I believe in helping the less fortunate, I just don't believe in helping them make me less fortunate.

As for riding the 'crest of the wave' the forums across most sites are littered with threads by people moaning about the decrease in their sales, are these the same people that have just shared their money making tips with others?

great, keep 'em coming, I'll post a screenshot when I am done

about the tentative logo.

yeah, i agree with jsnover that i think it looks a little like Ms. G as in miss G.  I think it should be able to be just MG .. but it seems lots of times people refer to microstock as MS .. will have to think on this.

How about Capital M and G with the word 'stock' in between vertically.

@ Iriz: you're already worked up.
@RT: correct.

@ everyone:

Do not come to Photocase.com, you will only waste your time and ours.

So that's Priority One - Don't come here.

Thanks for clearing that up, it appears the buyers already got the message but it was good of you to come here and explain it also applies to contributors.

I am so thankful that this forum (MSG) exists for exposing such frauds, because this line from the email:

"(Remember the distance or colour does not matter but love matters a lot in life)"

nearly got to me.  I mean, for a while I was believing that someone with such depth of feeling could not possibly be a scammer/spammer.   Thanks for clearing that up. :D

You have got to be frickin'  j  o  k  i  n  g   m  e  ! ? !

Are you saying you nearly got suckered in by one of these low-tech slappers????

The header was enough for me.  I couldn't even be bothered reading the rest but the thought that some mangy minx from manilla has managed to bend the emotions of some fellow snapper is just too hard to fathom. No disrespect but I regard most of the people on this forum fairly switched on. Or at least I did until now   :D
I thought that most people here pretty switched on too, till I noticed that many have a total inability to spot sarcasm.

30-15 new balls please

ha, i am looking at a hasselblad right now, but not the largest, looking at the older h3s, i think the 30 megapixel...just can timagine ever needing much more!

They've been advertising discounts for the 31 and 39 over here, still way too much for me, I agree about 30 being plenty, I'm interested to see what the Leica 32mp is like when it gets launched, still won't be able to afford one though.

I haven't decided yet.  I made the logo while trying to figure out what to put on the card.  I just had the logo on the card and i thought it looked to much like a law firm or something.?! (image attached.. contact info would be on the other side of the card) .. so thought avatars might be better.  Perhaps the logo will be on the contact info side of the card, or together with the avatars, or scrapped all together.

Gotta be honest with you I don't like it, but only because the S bothers me, I think that font is fine for the name underneath but between the M and G it looks kind of weird. I like the colour though.

I think the double sided idea with avatars on one side is good, especially if your avatar features your username  ;D

hey RT - my blog is defiantly just on the verge of giving away and sharing and giving just little enough insight.  i like to share, create community yet, i gotta keep some secrets to myself!

and with a tongue and cheek name, i think its fitting!

Jay,

I like your blog it shows photo's of sunny fun places which we don't see much in the UK, but you do realise the name means you're going to have to shell out on a Hassy 50 otherwise everyone will laugh at you  :D
If you do get one let me know and I'll buy the domain - iwishmycamerawasasbigasyours.com

Well that's their grammar sorted out ;) I was kinda hoping for some sales feedback! btw why are we reading this forum and not taking photos? ;D Regards, David

Obviously not!

In a way you got the feedback you need, the grammer on their site is more interesting than the site itself and with that I'm off to edit some photos.

The full topic is actually described as "Buyers FAQ's". The FAQ are possessive to multiple buyers ... so it should be "Buyers' FAQ"

Nope  - just 'Buyers FAQ'  because Buyers' would be pronounced Buyerses  ;D

My guess is:

Excellent = I'll put that into my lightbox to copy later

Good = Part of a series, I'll only have to check one of them

OK = I can't believe they took a photo of that, but as I can't find anything technically wrong with it I'll let it through.

I avoid sites who put apostrophes in the acronym FAQs ...

Isn't the acronym just FAQ, FAQs would be Frequently Asked Questions'  ;D

General Stock Discussion / Re: Why I hate subs
« on: January 16, 2009, 16:13 »
I'm sure they could afford the price on a traditional agency like Getty or Alamy also, but if you upload an image to a microstock site you have to be prepared to sell it at microstock prices whether it's a sub or PPD, and to sell it to anyone whether they're the corner shop down the road or a multi national company.

That's what the microstock business is all about, try not to let emotions factor into it.
