As Gostwyck suggested a couple of weeks ago, they could be preparing to get 'absorbed' by aliens.
This would be the second law of thermodynamics applied to stock. Ultimately, we will all end up as subs on thinkstock.

Anyway, I'm none the bloody wiser, but to you use an expression from my US colleagues "don't piss down my neck and tell me it's raining".
I'm learning a lot of great English expressions here all the time.  :P In Dutch we say to grease somebody up with his own fat.

I just go in everyday and put 10 of them in pending. I have a bunch sitting on there that I uploaded and just waiting till the next day to process them.
How come you have only 2 uploads this month then?  ::)

What are "credits awarded"?
Sounds like they are giving it away as a promo tool. Something like printing money.

The following thread is another example of DT attitude:
http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_20804
Seems the customer needs to adapt to the DT philosophy rather than DT adapting to the customer's requirements. ::)

That thread has nothing to do whatsoever with the search engine. You should be aware that if you have 2x the number of (mostly negative) posts on DT than you have sales there, it might become a nightmaretime for you. Nobody wants to to bite the hand that feeds him. The adult content filter is used at all sites. You can simply turn it off.

I just hate to eat the money though.
Thanks both for a concept that is badly represented at all sites, eating money. I checked. It's on the list.  8)

You can get much better results if you change the match order to "downloads" or even "upload date". DT is an image-centered site while IS is a contributor centered site. Their best match is made for exclusives, that's why I always start at page 5 and down. At DT at least, you can change the match algorithm easily. It's just one click.

I uploaded for the first time there last week in 8 months.  My upload limit was at 50.  I upload again today and I can only upload 10???
You only have the full daily upload quota is your approval rate is 80% or over. If not, you will have 1/5-th of those quota = 10.

Hello i'm back.
Where have you been?  8)

This month I have made so far the earnings as the whole last month.
+1

My guess is that they absorbed part of the former StockXpert buyers. That would explain the glitch with their servers (server load?) too. This is guess is further confirmed by the low number of subs sales at DT this month, as well as by the unusual high number of ODs on SS. It's as if some StockXpert buyers are first testing the waters with credit sales before deciding where to buy a subs package.

I have never heard of Graphic leftovers.  Are there any sales there?
I signed up there but I made the mistake not to read what they accept. They don't accept people that need a model release. Of photos, they only like isolated product shots, food etc... As my port now is 2/3 people, I'll have to cancel them. I'll never get payout with 10 crappy food shots.

1488
It's just weird that the sales volume has shrunk so suddenly at DT (for me).
I had a real burst, especially the first days of February. Perhaps it's portfolio composition dependent (I don't have Easter shots).

New Sites - General / Re: tastylemon - new site

It's a community and social networking site too. Wow. Remember how well Mostphotos works? That they are paying the highest rates rates in the industry is a blatant lie. The light effects on the site hurt my eyes and it's full of glitches. When I do a search on Asian teen I get the Aya Sophia in Istanbul.

Next.

If I give a guy a few pointers, am I afraid he's going to submit 10,000 killer images next week and wipe out my sales?
But he actually got some very good pointers. His initial shots were landscapes, and since landscapes and landmarks are amongst my best sellers, my advice was honest and complete imho:
Quote
Well actually landscapes, sunsets and architecture do sell, if they are either (a) landmarks/icons/famous or (b) exceptional.
What would he expect? We give our shoot list and concepts away for the coming months? Gaps in the concepts present online we found with a lot of research and we plan to shoot later? I don't know of anybody here doing that.
Did he expect shoulder-tapping like on Flickr? If he can't deal with some realities here, how would he be stress-resistant enough to deal with rejections when he starts uploading?

I'm going to stay out of this kind of threads if it just generates frustration.

Asking 9 credits for an XS image, just because it has sold a few times, is going to look seriously expensive when FT and IS may be selling the same image for just 1 credit.
XS level 1-2 = 1 credit
XS level 3 = 5 credits
XS level 4 = 7 credits
XS level 5 = 9 credits (assignment = exclusive, or >= 50 dl).

Level 5 images that weren't assignment and hence exclusive must be very few. There might be a problem with level 4 (>= 25). I only have 7 out of 1041 for now. I wouldn't call 25 downloads "a few". In any case, they will only make up a very small fraction of the total DT portfolio. The buyer will encounter these instances very rarely. Assuming an hourly wage of 40$, he has just 6 minutes finding the same image on a cheaper site to break even.

1492
(where all those old-timers have search rank 1000% above newbee)
That's not correct. Search engine position has to do with the image's history and sales. There is no oldbee bias per se on these sites. SS even privileges newbees with a very good placement. The only contributor-related discrimination is on IS where non-exclusives are bumped backwards. As many top photographers are joining DP, the same natural order of very good vs just good images will prevail. You will see.

1493
I attempted a couple of image searches for images like "car"and "fabric"earlier today with no results.
The search was out for a while. Tangie just announced it was fixed.

Anyone else see sales plummet after the technical issues that started last Friday?
Following Gostwyck's rule (keep your mouth shut under 1000$ monthly), I don't like to confirm. I'm far away from your numbers. You should ask Lisa, she had 40,000 sales on DT.
If you are happy with a midget with 3-6 sales per day: yap. It fully recovered on Tuesday (yesterday). Weren't there some holidays somewhere? In Europe, the 1-week early spring break holiday for schools started.

1495
Let me see.  My latest credit sale was a level 2, got US$1.04 for 3 credits, roughly 35c per credit.  Prior to that, in December, the image was a level 1, and I got 40c per credit.  Credits start at US$1.25 down to 77c (for 50,000 credits!).  The guy in DT forum - the only reporting a low value credit - sid 26-30c per credit.  26c looks very low indeed, even at 30% (a 87c sale credit).  But can't this be from partner sales?
Yes we're hijacking. My latest 1 credit sales were 0.28-0.38$ on level 1. Apparently, it reflects the price the buyer paid for the credit. I also don't have time to figure it all out, but I trust them. That's more than what I can say of some other siteolias.  ;)
Looking at my RPD of this month (1.34), it's the highest of all sites (IS 1.09, SS 0.54). Much has to do with the level system that tempers the worst effects of the decrease in commission. IS has no level system whatsoever for independents. A sale is a sale, even a sub or an XS and you enter level 2 already after 5 sales now. You can be obsessed with the minima but don't forget to look at average RPD, and especially volume.

Those who can't shoot, blog.

ROFLMAO! You made my day, Flemish.

Many people will hate me for it.  ;)

This is not a nice forum nor a social club but if the OP can't stand the heat, he should stay out of the kitchen. He got some very sound advice for free. I have to temper my statement about blogging. It was about microstock business sites (with the exception of a few, like Lee), not about tutorial sites. Those are great.

As to a spingleplonk, I had the rare occasion to photograph one. It looks like the hand of Attila the reviewer, it grows on Lucky Olivers and it opens up only in moonless nights near the equator.

Veer / Re: Wow! Major sales at Veer!
« on: February 17, 2010, 04:50 »
I refuse to upload any more until I see a noticeable uptick in the sales trend, or until I hear that their reviewers have regained their senses.  It was getting pretty offensive.  One day a certain type of image would be accepted, and the next day an image in the same style or subject matter would be rejected as not commercial or poor quality.  Or a reviewer would reject an entire batch of diverse images as being too similar. Etc. Etc. Etc.
+1
Veer would be doing very fine, if they would decommission most of their reviewers and replace them by people that know microstock. In my case, they only showed a great talent to reject my best sellers for LCV and accept my lesser shots. One can live with tight standards (as in IS) but not with unpredictability.

You won't find a nicer guy than Keith, not only to work with and for, but just to pal around with. :)
He was one of the few that could appreciate my sometimes weird sense of humor. Well maybe we'll meet again, somewhere, somehow in another universe. Or not. Hoping he's fine back in Canada and say hi to him.

(PS: Hugo, I'm really going to miss seeing your images at full size -- that was one of my favorite things about working at Zym I love your stuff!)
Not really, I'm just an amateur. There are great artists around that skipped Zym for the flaky (upload) framework. I only managed to get 1/3 of my port up. I have been mad enough about that a few times (in private of course). What's done is done. The concept had a chance, still has. Perhaps when he is bored selling fliers  ;)

No need. It will teach me not to believe every statement on forums.
I missed the thread about the revived tutorials by Arena. Thanks for that.
I always considered him as a genius and I liked his wicked sense of humor. Great guy, TheMissed.

Fd-amateur, why do you make up stories without checking first? The account you're referring to has been inherited and proper legal documentation has been provided. Consequently rights were transferred properly and revenue is paid accordingly.
Great it was solved this way, in this particular case. I think on the DT forum there was a discussion about how to recover his tutorials and somebody that was in email contact with his friend mentioned there were no heirs. In general though, there must be cases where earnings are never claimed. Bonds and bank accounts are unclaimed for 1%.
