Veer / Re: FTP problem
« on: June 23, 2009, 11:17 »
my images also got through the process now. Seems it was a temporary glitch.

Hi All -

There were some hiccups with upload yesterday that was causing trouble for some.
These issues have now been fixed - systems are working normally.

If you continue to have trouble - you might check out some FTP tips that Anders posted yesterday on the Marketplace Group:
http://ideas.veer.com/group/marketplace/discussions/100

--------------------------------------

Thanks for your patience, everyone! The developers did encounter an issue earlier with the number of new files being uploaded. That has now been resolved.

You've mentioned a few other uploading issues, and they've asked me to pass on a few tips that could help:

1) Browser FTP: FTP does not work using the browser, as the browsers does not support FTP SSL.

2) FTP Client Problems: We'll be creating specific instructions for each client (Transmit, FTPZilla, CuteFTP, etc.). A common issue is a misunderstanding of "username". Your username is your full e-mail address.

--------------------------------------

Let us know if you continue to have trouble.

Thanks,

How many are needed before acceptance?

"Rejection comments

Based on these 10 images, we can't offer you contributor privileges at this time. You are welcome to submit 10 new images
"

Does this mean that the review was weighted on all 10 images and not individually?
Does this mean that I have to have all 10 images accepted before I get contributor privileges?

Hi jcpjr -

Correct.

We evaluate all 10 submissions from a new contributor as a whole to determine whether we feel they are a good fit with VeerMarketplace. If the strong majority ( 7 or more )  of the 10 are considered acceptable, we pass the account. If not - we decline, and reject all 10 files.

Veer / Re: can i trsfr SV port to Veer?
« on: June 18, 2009, 13:33 »
Hi,

I was not one of the people who got there port transferred from snap village to veer automatically.

I had to apply to veer mp to get accepted. I did.

Now I'm wondering of i can have my SV port transferred to Veer for review. that would be a lot less work for me.

thanks again,
Nick

Hi Nick -

Glad you are up and running on Veer Marketplace!
Unfortunately, at this point we cannot transfer any other accounts from SnapVillage. You'll need to resubmit any files you'd like to offer directly to Veer Marketplace.

Best,

Veer / Re: Initial thoughts on Veer reviews
« on: June 18, 2009, 13:29 »
I accidentally pushed a set of 20 images through without attaching release. Is there a way to retrieve them or do I wait for rejections on all of them and then resubmit?

Hi Zeus -

Now that the images have been submitted and are in our queue, there is no way to retrieve them from your end.
Our editors will catch this and flag these as "soft-fails".

These files will be pushed back to you and show up as "needs work" at the top of your Pending tab.
You can then move them into the editing workspace, attach releases, and resubmit. No need to re-upload the files themselves.

Veer / Re: Veer/Snapvillage royalties
« on: June 17, 2009, 13:10 »
Still no email received, no money received.
Maybe I didn't sold anything, but I would rather know it instead of guessing...

Same here. Under $10 in sales sounds too weak...

Hi Perry -

Royalty update emails were sent to all accounts that had sales activity in the month of May.
You might double-check your spam filters to see if this got caught - otherwise PM me and I can double-check for you directly. In order to minimize the confusion - we'll make sure these get sent out to everyone next month, regardless of activity.

As mentioned before --- this offline email-based reporting setup is a temporary process for Phase 1 Marketplace royalties for content transferred from SnapVillage.

As we approach the customer-facing release later this summer, this process will be replaced by stats and royalty reporting in your account dashboard.

A question for those who were not part of the initial SV migration and who just applied and were accepted last week with their initial 10...

Have any of you had files reviewed beyond your initial 10 application files? I'm just curious what the average turnaround time is for regular inspections.

Hi Whatalife -

The oldest files from approved contributors in the submission queue are about 5 days "stale" now.
We're working to ramp up efficiency to keep our turnaround time at or below the current mark.

I'll work to get these to you ASAP (will go out today).

What's the deal with the 100 image limit.  I had assumed it was daily, but I have had 100 images pending for two days and still can't submit anything else.

Are the limits weekly?  If so, that is almost as restrictive as istock.  Istock has 5 million images, so you can understand why they would want to slow their growth.

But for a new site to have restrictive uploads makes no sense to me.  At this rate it will take me years to get 5k images on the site.

Am I misunderstanding something?  Anyone else unable to submit beyond the first 100?

Hi LisaFx -

The default image submission limit is 100 images per week.  We'll look at changing this default as we ramp up this summer - for now we're holding there to ensure that our systems are up to speed (no pun intended).

Veer / Re: Is Veer more artsy then other micors?
« on: June 11, 2009, 18:15 »
I agree...submit whatever you think is your best work.  If they turn it down, submit something else.  I've read several posts where traditional microstock images, subjects isolated on white, are being turned down in the first submission process, so playing it safe might not be the way to go.  I'd show them what I can do!

"I'd show them what I can do!" - hard to go wrong there!
It's not that we don't want white white background studio shots - but we're definitely on the lookout for high-quality content that is unique and a good showing of what you are capable of.

(of course all submissions must play by royalty-free legal guidelines)

Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace Opens for Submissions!
« on: June 11, 2009, 18:14 »
I'm confused.  I'm from London (& UK citizen) and I want to submit to some US based stock agencies but they all seem to require a Tax ID number for their W8s.  But you're saying that I can fill out a W8 for Veer without one and still get the treaty rate of zero withholding?  What are you relying on when you say that?  because in the w8 instructions i can't find any explanation of why I'd be able to get the treaty rate with no Tax ID number...

Also, if it turns out later that I owed the 30% to the IRS would this be deducted from my royalties earned later?  or would i have to pay it back to you?

I would really appreciate an answer on this ASAP, can you provide us with IRS evidence/confirmation that the info from Veers W8 is correct, with regards to the submitter not needing a Tax number when being a citizen and resident of a treaty country, and that no withholding will happen (when treaty is 0%)?

Please send me a private message if not wanting to post a direct reply.

Hi AdamG2000 -

We have consulted with our tax advisors, legal counsel and the IRS to ensure that we are properly collecting and maintaining the appropriate information with respect to the foreign photographers withholding tax obligatons.

Rest assured - we don't take this process lightly, and we've definitely done our homework.

Go ahead and jump in.

Best,

Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace Opens for Submissions!
« on: June 11, 2009, 11:56 »
I am in sort of a pickle here.

They transferred over 126 of my files from Snapvillage, but the keywording is horrible They are relevant keywords, there's just only like 10-20 keywords per image as opposed to the 30-40 that I have embedded in the IPTC data. As far as I can tell there is no way to edit or delete the already accepted and online files at the moment. But I would like to get this taken care of before the big customer launch. So perhaps the easiest way to do this would be to have support delete all my images and then I could just re-upload them? I would much rather do that then having to edit the keywords image by image manually.

I have a lot of new images to upload as well but I don't want them to get all mixed in with the bad keyworded files cause then it would likely be even more work to fix them.

Right now I'm just sorta sitting tight and considering my options here. Maybe you could weigh in on this Brian or Aaron? What would you suggest I do?

Hi KngKyle -

I would suggest waiting until mid next week to make sure that if any of your transferred files were affected by the keyword discrepancy bug - these will be fixed automatically.

Beyond that - it might be worth looking at some specific examples of how your submitted terms have been mapped to our controlled vocabulary (CV). The power of the CV will mean that you'll have far fewer top-level keywords (the one you see displayed) - but many tens (or even hundreds) of other searchable terms hidden behind the scenes. It's very likely that many of the submitted terms that appear 'missing' - will actually be searchable as they are part of a hierarchical CV walk-up or a synonym or spelling variant.

It's not uncommon for 40-50 submitted keywords to be 'boiled down' to 10-15 primary CV terms, with another 100+ or so terms made searchable behind the scenes by the CV.

Here's an example:  tornados is a narrow term for storms which is a narrow term for inclement weather
beneath weather. All of these terms become part of the keyword tornados with just entering the
term tornados.  Again, they are not visible, but they are searchable.  And those are just the walk-ups: there are also spelling variants and synonyms included behind the scene as well. In this case "twister" (among others).

The CV does a lot of the work for you - and helps deliver more reliable and consistent searches for customers.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Does it mean that new uploads (not SV transfers) are not indexed? Is this the reason why they will not appear in searches until end of July?

Hi melastmohican -

Correct.
Newly uploaded content will be unveiled with the customer-facing release in late July.

Veer / Veer Marketplace Launch Timing Clarification
« on: June 10, 2009, 21:09 »
Hi All -

It's become clear some are confused over the Veer Marketplace launch phases, and when you'll start seeing royalties on content uploaded this week.
Some of you have asked: "my content was approved yesterday. why can't I find it when I search for it?"

Veer Marketplace is being rolled out in 3 major phases:

Phase 1: The current customer-facing Veer Marketplace is still the Phase 1 preview version - with a static collection of content transferred from SnapVillage.  [launched in February, - content was rolled over from SnapVillage over the past few months]

Phase 2: We've just launched the contributor ingest workflow so you can submit your portfolio ahead of the customer release. [went live earlier this week]

Phase 3: A customer-facing launch that unveils a credit-based system, and connects all the pieces and make Veer Marketplace truly and fully live from end to end. [late July]

The sales and royalty reporting tools will be added as we get closer to the Veer Marketplace customer-facing launch (Phase 3).
Content uploaded to Veer Marketplace now cannot be searched or licensed until that launch.

The customer facing launch will include many important elements:

 - a switch to a full credit-based purchase system with credit-based subscription and extended-license options
 - a brand new watermark for all Veer Marketplace content
 - search and sort mechanisms for buyers
 - a robust collection to satisfy Veer customers hungry for great content:  all the new images you are uploading into the system now, plus all of the content transferred from SnapVillage.

Hope this helps.

Veer / Re: Veer/Snapvillage royalties
« on: June 10, 2009, 20:34 »
I have a couple of questions regarding royalties in regards to Veer & SV.  Hopefully someone can provide an answer...

1) What is going to happen to the royalties earned on SV?
    a) will they be folded into Veer?
    b) will Veer sales be reported and folded back to SV?

2) In looking at my SV royalty detail for May, the detail adds up to a different larger number than what the summary is showing.  Were these sales Veer sales that were reported back to SV?

Thanks!

Yes, I have the exact same questions. Any answers?

Hi Click_Click
Hi Jsolie

1). Royalties earned on SnapVillage will continue to be paid out as they have been.
When the SnapVillage site is eventually turned off later this year - you'll be paid out any remaining unpaid royalties (even if they do not meet the usual $10 threshold - similar to how balances were cleared at the end of each calendar year).

Royalties earned from SnapVillage content transferred to the preview version (Phase 1) of Veer Marketplace are reported offline via email. These reports for May will be going out later tonight.
For newly uploaded content to Marketplace - check this thread for futher details on the timeline for when this content will be going live to customers:
http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/anybody-know-where-to-check-sales-stats-on-veer-mp/msg102969/?topicseen#new

2). VeerMarketplace is a different site altogether - and royalties earned on VMP are not plugged into SnapVillage in any way. This looks like an error - the detail is correct, while the summary is off. Regardless, you'll be paid the proper royalties. It's a visual bug, and all data is correct on the backend.

Anyone from Snap have a sale yet on Veer? I don't know if I have a sale or not because I can't see where to go on the site to find out. I'm assuming that if I had a sale it would show up on the Dashboard page. ??
I have uploaded a few dozen new images over the last few days on Veer and it seems to be fast and easy.

Hi Lou -

Veer Marketplace is being rolled out in 3 major phases:

1). The current customer-facing Veer Marketplace is still the Phase 1 preview version - with a static collection of content transferred from SnapVillage.  [ launched in February ]
2). We've just launched the contributor ingest workflow (Phase 2) so you can flesh out your portfolio ahead of the customer release. [ just launched on Monday]
3). Phase 3 is a customer-facing launch that unveils a credit-based system, and connects all the pieces and make Veer Marketplace truly and fully live. [ mid-late July]

The sales and royalty reporting tools will be added as we get closer to the Veer Marketplace customer-facing launch (Phase 3).

I'll post this info in a separate thread to help clarify the timeline as I think many folks are confused (understandably so).

We agree - you should be able to edit metadata on your own, after files are accepted. This is true for all content, no matter if it was transferred from SnapVillage or if it was newly uploaded.

We do plan on releasing tools to enable you to edit metadata after the fact.
While I don't have an exact ETA, this functionality is definitely planned for a future contributor release.

I am experiencing broken uploads in at least 50% of uploaded files. I use Cute FTP.
Why not Filezilla (but it shouldn't make any difference)?
Is your net connection flaky? Mine too here. Some FTP servers have timeout problems.
Did you IPTC with Irfanview or with any of the Adobe products?

I haven't even been able to successfully sign on to FTP.  They say use your sign-in name.  I have tried both my screen name and my e-mail and neither works.

Any suggestions???

Hi Lisafx -

Would you mind posting or PM'ing me your FTP details?  (client name, connection details)
We're working on some add'l troubleshooting guidelines that may help solve many issues that are causing failures or hang-ups when uploading via FTP.

Veer / Update on Keywording Issues on Transferred Content
« on: June 09, 2009, 18:33 »
Hi -

For those that have found keywording irregularities on their content transferred from SnapVillage - here's an update and some good news:

Our team has identified the problem - and this will be fixed by early next week. There is nothing you need to do - the files will be fixed automatically.

This issue only affects content transferred from SnapVillage. About 87,000 files were affected, and these files are being re-ingested and re-mapped to the Veer controlled vocabulary. These files had not yet made it live on the Phase 1 preview of Veer Marketplace.

Additionally - those that have seen blank thumbnails - we've just loaded an additional 50,000+ files, and most of those images should now display properly. We'll be loading more content throughout the week - so there may be a few files that haven't been picked up yet.

One note: this issue resulted in complete keyword / image mismatches - several have posted such examples on MSG.
Others have noticed their keywording is a bit different or an important term doesn't seem to appear --- the latter issue is more likely because you are now seeing the mapped Veer CV terms - which include walk-ups and many many synonyms, spelling variants and misspellings.

If you haven't already - you might find it helpful to read through the Keywording FAQ - which includes a bit more explanation about the Veer CV:
http://ideas.veer.com/group/marketplace/discussions/89

Thanks for your patience on this everyone.

Brian

Can you please clarify the question regarding payments. No Moneybookers, only PayPal and Payoneer?  In my country I cannot receive payments through PayPal. I don't know anything about Payoneer, but even if I can use that option I am not keen to use another payment option at additional costs just to be used with VeerMP.  Seems the reluctance of SV to pay international contributors is continuing. >:(

Hi Eco -

For now, we will be offering royalty payments through either PayPal or Payoneer. We'd very much like to offer Moneybookers - and had planned on doing so - but unfortunately, our setup is not compatible with Moneybooker's current offering. We'll continue to work towards offering alternate royalty payment options in the future.

A bit more on Payoneer: they offer a Veer branded prepaid debit-Mastercard that may be a good option for those for whom PayPal is not. Your royalties are loaded onto the card - which can then be extracted at nearly any ATM or used in a retail transaction online or in person. It's a pretty cool setup - we're really impressed with them so far!

Hi Everyone,

I received my password and account login information.  So far I've been able to go through the upload process without issue.  However, I noticed I have a limit of submitting 100 photos.  My question are:

1. How was this limit established?

2.  What happens when I have submitted over 100 images?

3.  Is this limit per day or per month or per?

4.  Will this limit change?

Thanks!

Hi sgcallaway1994 -

The default submission limit for accepted contributors is 100 files per week. This was established to help make sure that content moves through the queue efficiently. This threshold was established based upon polling on this site and elsewhere, as well as usability study feedback.

It's possible the limit may change in the future. For now we're going to make sure our systems are in good shape, and our editing team is up to speed.

Most of my images from SV were transferred, but not all. I also have the problems that many of the keyword are incorrect or missing. Some of my thumbnails are also missing.

Hi Oboy -

Thanks for the PM - we're currently investigating the keyword issue on transferred content.

Images that are not showing up have not yet been loaded, - these will display as "blanks" until they have been processed by the system. It may take another week or two to finish loading and processing content transferred from SnapVillage.

 - Brian

Hey Brian,

I'm experiencing the same issues with a lot of my photos, some have some really strange keywords, and some have no keywords.  Hopefully these hiccups will be taken care of quickly.

If you need some image numbers, please let me know and I'll get them to you.

We're still investigating the keyword issue on transferred content. So far, we think this might be isolated to certain accounts with content that has not been pushed live to the site yet. We'll keep you updated.

One thing to mention: you'll be seeing the mapped terms in the Veer controlled vocabulary. This means that you won't necessarily see all broader terms, synonyms, and spelling variants - the CV has taken care of those and is only displaying the primary terms.

- Brian
