There is no extended licenses in free version..
You must purchase the premium version..

I think an O-Day (opt-out day) is long overdue.. and if that doesn't solve the problem a D-Day will..

I'm not new no. Why do you ask ?
A single image getting 25-30 dl's ? That's unheard of for me. I will be lucky to make between 99c to $5 a day on all images. IS still makes me more money even though I am unexclusive.
obviously that's not the case for most images I just gave an example.. What I meant to say was that If I uploaded that image today it would make 4-5 dls a day.. not 25-30 like it did in 2008-2009.. now I have better images that can't sell as good as that.. so obviously things have changed and better images sell less.. it's either because shutterstock doesn't favor new images as much, or there is too much competition that it's impossible to get those numbers.

are you new?
actually shutterstock was a lot quicker for new images a few years ago..
nowadays, a good image will get a few sales a day but that's nothing compared to 25-30 dls a day I used to get per one good image a few years ago..
now it's veeery veery slow and older images get much better download numbers.. I don't earn less, but older images definitely make more..

I may be wrong but I think depositphotos is owned by depositfiles which was already very successful and big so they did not exactly start from scratch.. (had a look at your url after I posted this and noticed you already mentioned this) what they did "good" was that they studied the market well and implemented all the best features other sites had.. looking at depositphotos is like looking at fotolia + shutterstock + dreamstime combined - their logo is too similar to "previous" shutterstock logo, their stats page is identical to shutterstock which has the best stats page.. - their pricing and ranking system is based on fotolia.. (also on istock's canisters) but the graphics and presentation is more similar looking to fotolia.. - their colors are dreamstime.. I think there are many more that I am forgetting to mention right now.. so they took what competitors did best and merged it into one site, plus they had prior success and funding for their plan..

great to see I was opted out of this already.. (in my api, it's already set to "opt out" somehow) but I am very glad it was..
I just don't see how anyone would opt in to this..
that's why it was not advertised, and secretly launched until they got caught by microstockgroup detectives..

I have to say it makes me sick to see people on here using Mark's death to criticize iStock. I'm really feeling like this forum has lost any value it once had. I wish the best to his family and offer my condolences.
as long as it's based on a valid argument, what's wrong with criticizing istock? please make a list to let people know "on what grounds they can criticize istock".. so next time, they will do it without touching the subjects that you don't like..

I'm sad because my last images don't sell well or don't sell at all.
they seem to be non commercial.
you are aware of it, and yet you are annoyed at sean's funny comment stating the obvious.. no reason to be annoyed on people's comments.. they are only helpful if you look at it the right way.. and trust me, sean's comment will be more helpful to you, if you one day become a great seller.. I laughed at his comment because it was very well said, with great timing because you came and started a thread that sounds arrogant when you look at the title.. is it worth selling these on micros may be read as "is it worth selling these great images on worthless micros".. at least that's how it sounded to me.. and since the images aren't really as good as thread title implies, the answer was spot on..

this has been a very poor year on alamy.. nothing new..
glad to see they are heading down to their natural position in poll results.. it was inflated and plain WRONG that they appeared in middle tier..
they should be where stockfresh is..

How many files do I need to consider my portofolio decent or big?
Unless you are making over $1000/month on your best site, i wouldn't worry about any more than the top 5-8 sites.
very good advice.. it's not how many images you have.. it's more about how much you make with the images you have.. some people make $1000 with 500 images, some need 10k images to achieve that.. once you are making more than $1000 on your best site, then you will earn ok on all the others.. but not cutcaster and stockfresh.. you won't earn much with them unless you are earning $10.000 a month on shutterstock

if you are a beginner, you are wasting your time with cutcaster and stockfresh.. you can continue with the rest.. they will sell once you have a bigger port..

That is much better than the vector work we have seen above..
you should definitely work more on paper, scan your work and trace your own original art in illustrator..
if you have more work like that you can also submit raster work to IS using the photographer application process..
one more thing: definitely use "pen tool" of illustrator more.. not the basic squares and circles..
good luck..

" it's worth selling them to micros."
Well, they'll never sell, so I don't now if that's worth it or not.

Great advice above..
forget istock for now.. it is not useful for you if you want to become a good artist..
you have to be good on paper if you want to have any chance.. software is only a help tool.. it won't make you an artist..
you should sketch a lot, practice a lot, and try to get better with natural drawing..
if you don't take these suggestions seriously and focus on drawing with a pencil, on an actual paper you are not going too far..

I can understand the all different part too, as a buyer moves from site to site, and finds, each one has a different license. Confusing, complicated could be a negative.
I don't really like to compare Symbiostock to the major microstock sites (since I believe that the customers are very different), but the same is true of them as well. A license on IS is different than SS which is different than DT which is different than FT which is different than 123RF, ad infinitum.
Very good post.. In fact, It's so good that it would easily summarize a book named "Licensing for dummies.." This issue has been pointlessly brought up over and over again and discussed way more than it needed to be discussed.. Honestly, since the beginning, I don't get what's all the fuss about?? Everybody is responsible for their own sites.. Full Stop..

You have a high risk of rejection unless you diversify your subjects..
These are all christmas + winter images and istock doesn't like that for initial submission..
I would pick only 1 of these (whichever one you believe is best) and 2 more completely different subjects..

Obviously, because we are paying out hundreds of photographers every month. We are quite strong in the German speaking area, but have distribution partners in other parts of the world. However, with a strong western focus on the images, sales chances are quite high. How many images have you uploaded so far? If you contact me with your username, I can probably give you some tips and tricks to improve sales on our site. Best regards, Robert.
I have no images with you...yet. I have somewhere in the range of 2800 images, but I'll hold off for now.
I recommend holding off for good if we are talking about panthermedia.. I have tried them, uploaded my whole port, stayed until I made a payout, took the money and ran!

Some downloads from yesterday are not reflected in my total earnings yet, even though today's downloads already show up on monthly totals..
This means things are not fully fixed.. I will have to contact support if the issue is not fixed in the next few hours..

Thanks for the useful info guys..
I still won't upload anything until they implement IPTC extraction to vector upload process..
Happy to see that for some of you P5 sells more images than those other sites..
You may try CSV import/edit feature. If you have data in ExcelSheet it might be an easy solution how to send all files to curators in an hour. IPTC is in pipeline, I'll push it a bit for you...
Thanks for the update zager! I will wait for IPTC as I don't have data in ExcelSheet.. Many of us are looking forward to hear good news about this issue..

Video sales will bring them up. I think P5 for photos stinks.
Good Point!

I am not on pond5 and would be happy if contributors who are on all those 4 sites provide some insight about it?
Is pond5 a legit middle tier site that consistently does better than those aforementioned sites?
if better, then how much better?
if not, then is it actually closer to low earners? or is it about the same?
EDIT: Ron made a very good point.. Please compare them for photos and vector sales..
Is pond5 really selling more images than those other sites? please exclude video!
