We can start by preparing well written, short document with all facts, explaining the issue. It could be useful as well for social case as for first contact with copyright lawyer. With participation of many person we are sure not to miss important things.

Have no idea. Maybe Google or Rebecca. This is why I propose to hire a lawyer. Is his job to find the best (if any) solution. With IStock you have the problem of class action being banned under the terms. Sending out negative letters about iStock to concerned people at the same time you are suing them might get you into hot water and damage the prospects for court action (I don't know, I'm just pointing out something to think about).
We have numbers. Some people can sent letters others go to court. Be banned from iStock is not scaring anymore. In few month iStock will not be here. If you are serious, you need to start off by getting a copyright lawyer's advice - which shouldn't be too expensive, if you can get 100 people or so to back you. They would need to be people whose work had been affected by this, not just anyone.
Yes, this is the idea. Personally I'm not concerned, I haven't found my images. But I think we cannot let them do it. I understand a contributor who is vulnerable facing merciless company with an army of lawyers. I understand that alone artist is hesitating to spend xxxxx$ with no guarantee of return. But if 100 people participate, at least we can have an idea what is feasible. It's a David Goliath case. @Oxman Naive? Absolutely not. I suppose that chances are small but I'm curious to check. Who knows? What is your estimation of chances we have? Based on what? Microstock - small gain but many times. Why not small contribution, many times for a noble cause?

I start separate thread, concentrated on concrete actions we can take. What happens with iStock/Getty/Microsoft/Google and probably others, for instant submerged deals, is unacceptable. I dont think iStock and friends will stop because it is the right thing to do. We should stop them. If not swindlers will continue. We need 2 organized actions. One legal, another social/communication. I propose for social/communication action: Try to collect here addresses of people, sites, magazines, associations, journalists etc. Then prepare a kind of an open collective letter (only one to avoid spams)which will be sent to concerned people. Spread a word on social networks and blogs. Legal action: 1) Create paypal account to collect money. We should keep it simple, at least in the beginning IMO, so no need to create legal entity. On this site there are many persons I trust and respect (LisaFx, Leaf, Sjlocke, Jsnover and many others). If one of these people agrees to open an account Im ready to send few hundreds of $. 2) Contact a specialized lawyer. Present well prepared file with all iStock/Getty story, not only Google/Microsofts. At least we will have a precise idea what is legal 3) Based on lawyers opinion we decide next steps. I think it is urgent to act. Not only iStock contributors are concerned. All copyright holders, if this still means something, are concerned. If Getty with impunity can do this others will follow. Floated marked with high quality free images from Getty will devaluate paid ones. Who will buy Shutterstocks subscription if there is a free option? The reasons why IMO we should charge them: 1) It is simple immoral, not right. I know it not an argument in a court but this is what it is. 2) Probably illegal: nothing to do with promotion 3) Probably illegal: copyright holder cannot stop it 4) Probably illegal: the way they change ASA 5) Probably illegal: be paid for without paying suppliers 6) Probably illegal: not inform about these kind of deal which are nothing to do with regular business 7) Probably illegal: prevent us to become exclusive on competitors sites (impossible to remove our images)  Financial. It could be a possibility to earn much more money than from selling our photos.. Compensations could be huge for images download thousand times. 9) I just cannot stand that they think that they can do anything. There should be a punishment.

I absolutely cannot understand video contributors staying exclusive. I left exclusivity (video) over 2 years ago. Never regret it. Pond5 alone earns more then 5 times more then IS! And I can fix my price, get 50% commission.
Majority of sites accept different files formant. I can upload files directly from my camera. Files are smaller and transfers faster.
I still see few advantage to be exclusive photographer at IS. I'm one of them. But in 2 years I haven't found one reason to be exclusive videographer. It's completely illogical.

No sales in last 5 days! It never happened to me. Sometimes, on weekend day I had 0 sales but never on week day.

I think this camera will sell well. It has no competition at the moment. Street photographers will love it, that seems to be very popular at the moment. Pro's that can't take a DSLR in to some places will want one. It could be a good travel camera, for people that don't mind just using one lens. I often look at the forums on dpreview and I'm amazed how many people pre-order cameras, knowing the price crashes after a few months. I'm sure lots of them will be wanting this.
If they could make this with a built in electronic viewfinder and interchangeable lenses, I would be interested. I'm pleased that Sony and Fuji are making different cameras from the usual Canon/Nikon stuff.
Yes, I think it will sell. Reporters who want to stay discrete will love it. Zeiss 35mm F2, 9 blades; 490 g with lens; video 1980x1080 60p

Windows search seems much faster than Bridge for keyword searches, it's what I go for
But I still cannot figure out how to do it... I tried in Windows XP and in Windows 7 and didn't find it.

I will download Lightroom trial version and see if it works for me.
I never know that in Windows we can search by keywords. I have to figure out how it works and if it's fast.

Now I have thousands of jpg files, all with embedded IPTC keywords, stored on a network drive. . I use freeware like Xnview or Infranview to manage jpgs. It works great but searching files by keywords is extremely long. Is there any method to accelerate researches? Do you know any software which are efficient, maybe with indexing system?

What? Kudos to Serban? What is wrong with you people? The guy decides that cutting off our heads may be detrimental to his business so he cuts off both our legs instead and still manages to be thanked for it? Kudos to Lee, yes, but no kudos should go to Serban.
So true. I was baffled myself to read "kudos to serban", what the plank... Stockholm syndrome anyone?
I don't think Serban made it because it was right think to do. He made because he was afraid of removing referral links. I hope that Lee takes look to partner's program too, which is completely opaque. Why contributors should pay for it?

iStock and Yuri announced over one year ago that PNG files would be available on their sites. iStock officially stopped this project. Yuri after proudly talked this revolutionary feature on his website simply didn't make it.
Anyone has idea why these projects were abandoned? It doesn't seem to be very complicated to add another files' format in downloads.

I think if his site becomes successful, it would be a logical next step to become an agency in its own right. It's human instinct to want to expand.
He will, but not exactly the way we imagine. First he will give us possibility to create our own sites using "Yuri's stock store engine" - a kind of Ktools Photostore - for free. Once 1000 individual stores are on line a mega Yoogel search image site will be deployed. Yoogel will research images among all Yuri's engined sites and take 10% from each sale.

As I don't know who was fired I cannot say if it's really bad news. IMO there were a lot of incompetent staff there, especially in IT department and communication/contributors relation team.
Maybe, even if I'm almost sure of the contrary, Getty wants to save IS, make customers and contributors happy?

Congratulation. I'm sure it's a good decision. I made it 2 years ago and never regret.
But I don't think contributing to Fotolia is a good choice. They have lowest commissions.

Your heart is in a lovely place, but I think this sort of action is likely to fall foul of the terms both for contributor and you. Post back here if you get SS's OK, but otherwise I'd not recommend taking you up on the kind offer.
Thanks Jsnover. Probably you are right guys, it can be dangerous for contributors to post theirs links here. But for me (buyer) I cannot see any problem. Very often I download many pics from the same portfolio-it's easier, faster and I have consistent choice of images (the reason why people buy subscriptions, isn't it?). I will wait for Aldra and Sodafish, they have a lot of nice pics;-). BTW is Sjlocke already at SS?

Many exclusives drop crowns. Financially first months of independence will be difficult.
Actually I'm still exclusive at IS but I'm not buying anymore there. I have subscription at Shutterstock now and I'm not using all my quota. I propose to download images from freshly independents. It's not a big help but I think it's better then nothing.

I cannot imagine that they are so unprofessional. Maybe they have smart plans like to make as many loses as possible to be sell for nothing and leave Getty's family.

Ive quit video exclusivity. Today is my last day as a video exclusive. I only have 12 files and no sales, so this is nothing heroic.

It was a painful decision, because Ive met the video team and they are all hard working, totally devoted people. This is not their fault. And I truly need to learn about video, istock seems to be site that has more pro videographers.
Just try Pond5 and your decision will be less painful;-) Uploading is fast and easy, you fix your price, you get 50%. And they sell much more then IS. I was exclusive video and never regret my decision to give up. IS video team, probably like other teams, are nice and devoted people but they are not performing well. And they have to work with "warlocks" (IT) who have talents to break everything.

Xnview can do this. It's a freeware I use a lot without any problems.
