I put my images in a master library where they reside as Adobe 1998 Tif files. From there I output them using Lightroom to whatever spec is necessary. it is here I will convert to sRGB for all except iStock thanks to the information provided. I have been very disappointed at how images look on some of the sites. I'll see if lowering the quality to sRGB will improve them.

Thanks so much!!! Zeus do you sell any RM there?
Yeh, I've got a few hundred old ones that see a bit of action but my RM there is dated for sure. Frankly I'm still undecided whether micro agencies are worth the time. I see a lot of high earners here I just don't know if I can produce the type of material that is profitable. i.e. cheap to produce and makes lots of sales. It's easy to do either of these but combining them is the trick. I had one sale from AGE a few months ago that equalled all my current earnings in micro. However those sales are few and far between. It's a tricky business right now for me. I'm very undecided.

I am referring to AGE in the above statement. I see there can be some confusion.

It's a two way street, the more commercial it is the more images we sell. However I philosophically oppose the greed and over consumption so many people have fallen prey to. I can hardly wait for my 5DII to arrive!!
See what I mean.

Well another snow storm here in Vancouver! Wish I could just stay home but unfortunately I have to drive into town. On top of working full time I am also a stage mom and my son has two shows today. So I will spend my day backstage at one of the theaters on Granville Island and not return home until 11pm tonight. I wonder how many people will show up today/tonight. Both shows are sold out but many will probably not want to venture out in this. Christmas Day is off (thank goodness) and then back for two more shows on Boxing Day!
Everyone go out and have some fun if you can!
Lora, We're buried here on the North Shore. Must be close to a foot and half total now. I couldn't get out to rent a movie today unless I ski let alone travel. Drive safe. Peter

I suspect it makes little to no difference
Your probably right but there some agencies who know how to make a thumb look good and some who don't.

I'm curious what format people submit in. sRGB or Adobe (1998)? I know that big most trad agencies want Adobe 1998 but how about micros. Does the extra punch sRGB give make it worthwhile.

I've submitted to AGE for many years, although not that much the past couple years or so. They pay 50/50 for their RF sales which is very unusual in this business for a trad agency. I like them. They have been around a long time and are still essentially a mom and pop business although mostly a pop business since I've never heard of a mom there. They sell reasonably well but have no where near the clout of the bigger trad agencies like Getty of Corbis. Things can take a little longer there than I like.
Peter
Better or worse than Alamy?
I don't know, it really depends on what you shoot. If you shoot a higher quality commercial image I'd say you would be better off at AGE but if you are a high volume editorial photographer I'd say Alamy. Alamy is non exclusive so you can seek your own clients or other outlets to sell through while AGE is image exclusive. Then comes the decision whether you should submit to AGE or Pixtal , the RF arm of AGE. I make more money from Alamy right now than AGE but then I have more images at Alamy than AGE that are suited for Alamy.

Jonathan,
Is this a trade you did for location usage and photography of the condo? I see you said you have a number of stills of the location as well. Something you did for them for usage of the place?

Jonathan,
I'm looking at this shoot and the other one you posted and the most striking thing I find about them is your incredibly conservative choice of the number of images per unique location. Each individual location would provide a days worth of shooting for some of us, yet you seem to go in with the objective of pulling a single perfect image off. Is this your objective? I mean it's obvious you'd shoot an area for a while but are you looking for the one great image that you earlier conceived and listed in the shoot brief? It would take a team of horses and a small tractor to get me away from some of those areas.

Me thinks if everyone had a chance to place images in any venue of their choosing, you'd see a lot wider dispersion of images.

Sorry I brought this up. There are obviously many well thought out reasons why things are the way they are. I'm probably just too old to see why certain statements are made. It's not the right time of year to be spreading dissent. Cheers.

There is plenty of useful commentary in the critique forum for those who ask. Same for any of the technical forums, like photography, etc.
Believe it or not, some people are actually excited about new developments, and are not just * up to a company. And some aren't, and you can find those too.
Sure there is good advice there but every time I visit I spend too much time cleaning off my boots afterwards. As with a lot of sites the masses of non experts or those with nothing to say make it unreadable. Peter

I made that, on microstock, in one year, with 250 photos. If I had 500 photos on microstock, I would have made double that, so I am either better than you, or Alamy is rubbish. You tell me. I am fine with both.
It is neither, actually. I find Alamy, for the most part, sells a lot more editorial style image than the micros do. Most of my images that sell on Alamy wouldn't be on a micro site.

... or do others find it difficult reading the forums over at iStock. I always figure there is something to learn but the level of smarminess on the posts there can really get to a guy.

I use this lens a lot. I have the 24-70 L2.8 as well and still find the 24-105 on the camera almost all the time. So much so I may get rid of the 24-70. It has some problems but the IS works so well. Now I do shoot with an old 1Ds right now so I can't go much past ISO 100, I have a new 5D II coming so I'll see if I can j push the ISO dial a couple of stops to make up form my shaky hands.

Sharply,
I didn't know you were a Vancouverite. I sit with the Cap Valley with a good view of Grouse. My wife is up doing the Grind tonight. I expect a popsicle home anytime soon.
Pete
Hey Zeus,
I used to live in North Van (on the flank of Seymour), but had to relocate to South Vancouver for my son's school (in Ladner). He'll be finishing high school next year, and I can't wait to get back to the North Shore! I have a season's pass at Grouse this year and plan to get up there whenever it's not cloudbound. The Grind is closed for winter - I hope your wife isn't going up there regardless: it isn't safe!
My wife is a very experienced outdoors person and takes care not to place herself in any problem situations. I do appreciate the concern though. She said the line up was so long to get back down yesterday around 4:30 that it was faster to walk out. So they did. I guess all the pent up skiing desire was vented in one day. We too get the season pass there although not this year. Too many other things happening. Pete

J,
I'm just north of you and we are sitting in some mighty cold weather for the West Coast. I know all the hearty easterners would be out in their t-shorts but I find it cold. Our wood stove is blazing full time right now. More snow on the way for tomorrow.

As a side note; the grapevine has been sending out rumors that the RR license will cease to exist next year. Not sure if this is for all brands or specific ones. You know the grapevine; a little bit noisy at times.

I just bought a Chimera Octplus 57. I've only use the 5' version so far but it's a pretty nice softbox. At 7' I imagine even nicer. For single people I attached a Elinchrom 400BX it was set at about half power for f/8 for full length single people.
