you can also donate through your cell phone by texting "HAITI" 90999 and it will charge your donation to your cell phone in the amount of $10.00 to the red cross. It's on their website. They've raised alot of money this way

Very same experience here. I wont say images that have been accepted elsewhere. That's a meaningless comment given different review criteria. However this last batch of 20 all have sales elsewhere of 100 or more. That means buyers like them and that's the bottom line.
Now when I tried to log on today, all links to 123RF are directed to Inmagine and my Login/password no longer work. What's going on here?
That's strange...I just went to see if I could get on and it went right there. No problem

Sorry to hear about your situation Donding. I have a step-mother like that too. My father is in late stages of a degenerative illness so I imagine I will be facing a similar nightmare in the future.
Thanks, Powerdroid, for starting this thread. This is very good information to have.
I had figured I would be covered because I have a corporation and my husband is VP, but my accounts and copyrights are still in my name. Maybe I should change them to be in my corporations name?
I don't even have a will. Just assumed that everything I have will go to my husband if I die or our (only) child if we are both dead. Sounds like a will would really simplify things as far as the stock royalties go.
God, I hate dealing with lawyers. Guess I'm going to have to, though.
Thanks lisafx...this probate has been a nightmare. If she had agreed to give his kids what are rightfully theirs rather than saying each of his kids should be happy with one thing and the grandkids didn't need anything. She has four kids from a previous marriage also and they are more evil than she is. I can't believe she even thinks its alright not to give his kids what is theirs even what he owned before their marrriage. I guess she tought we were all stupid and were going to let everthing go to her kids upon her death. I better drop that subject before I write a book on it. Anyway you might want to talk to your lawyer about the copyright thing. I don't know how copyrights pertain to a corporation, but I know if you desolve the corporation the debt goes to the shareholder if its a S corp. Heh also you better talk to the lawyer about writing up a will also at the same time. Believe me your heir will thank you for it....kinda ironic but I haven't gotten a will yet either...lol

There is a contest going on, on this website http://wildfireapp.com/website/6/contests/15558?order=recency&view_entries=1
looking for an image relating to the dangers of debt. If you up for the challenge, it could be a good topic for a stock shoot, with the possibility of winning a prize. The competition doesn't look very strong (yet) so everyone who enters could have a good chance of winning.
NB: it is apparently only open to US residents.
Are these actual photographer doing this? The photos are really bad and most of them in my opinion aren't even related to debt. Let's go for it and get rich so we can conquer the dangers of debt!!...lol

donding, sorry for the problems.
I believe the copyright isn't changed, the heirs only have the rights to receive the earnings and negotiate the images (or whatever is the copyrighted material). Isn't it so?
This battle over my father's estate has been going on over a year now. Anyway as for copyright I believe the rights are left to heirs through the executor of the estate. I think that's how it works. I know my Aunt was the executor of my grandmothers estate and she ended up with the copyrights to a book that was published. I nassume it would be the same for photos.

Hi, Lee and I have already "debated" about Depositphotos on the RasmusRasmussen blog. I agree with Lee about their not total transparency. The first approach was quite spammy. On the other hand, I can give you some facts: - I uploaded my photos and got my payout of 64$ (in a few days) - Depositphotos is making an advertising campaign on my site. They bought three different kind of banners and payed in 2 days without problems. - I've got my photos on a dozen of sites where I haven't see a penny in a year
I can't assure if they are safe or not, but make your choice... you know the bad and the good now ;-)
So, another affiliation link to feed that beast http://submit.depositphotos.com/?ref=1001087
Thanks rmarinello. That was helpful knowing someone has gotten money back from them. Like you said many of these sites we pour our images on are compltely dead ends, so if this ends up a dead end at least we made money on the uploads!

Ok I'm getting ready to register and I'm not seeing the P.P.P. they talk about that you're suppose to click on to get the promotion. I don't want to go ahead and put my info in if the link isn't there.

With a proven record of submitting good images, 93% acceptance rate and I've never had a batch with less than 80% accepted since I started in 2007, suddenly an entire batch rejected/ The same batch accepted by the other major agencies I had send it to. The reviewers at SS, DT BS and others can't be that stupid.
If the reviewer had said something like this is not what we want or what we need I would have understood, but every image rejected for poor lighting/composition. I know what poor lighting is, and I know what poor composition is. I don't submit photos with poor lighting. Composition is perhaps more subjective, but I firmly believe composition is not a problem with any of my submissions.
I'm sorry 123R, but I think you will have to look at the competency of your reviewers as a matter of urgency. No good photographer will waste his time like this, and those who will close their accounts will be those you actually need.
AMEN to that!!!!!!!

You have to leave the photos on there at least 6 months and if you do join you have to make sure you enter by hitting the P.P.P. button when you join to activate the program. Well what do I got to lose.....maybe I'll actually make more money by just uploading than I do on Featurepics...lol

It makes me question "What's the catch?" I wonder if they are making sales from buyers? Has anyone gotten a payout from them yet or is it just numbers?

Now let me understand this.....you (the photographer) gets paid to upload their own photos or is that payment only for photographers you refer? I'm confused

As of present I am going through a battle with the wicked stepmother of my fathers estate. And I might mention a very costly battle!! There was no will. Now the concern is this. When this estate is settled the monies will be divided equally between five children. Now if this person had an account with royalties, it would have to be divided amoungst five children. The copyrights would have to be divided amongst five children. I doubt a stock agency would do that seeing how they want to move the copyright to only one person.
Now if there was a will these royalties would have to be willed to one heir not amounst all heirs. Now am I right on this? or would there be a way around it. This could be more complex than it sounds

123RF allows free downloads of your images.
i found the images I was looking for on that site. Now how do you download from there? I can't find a button or area where your able to download your own images.
DUH...I found it...Just didn't scroll down far enough. I don't do much with 123RF and it is always so slow loading. I hadn't a clue how to download. But like I said I found it...

Do you know of any sites that allow the photographer to download their own images besides StockXpert? Do any other Big 6 allow it...and how do you do it? I got what I could from StockXpert, but alot of them are not on that site. Year end backup I lost a group of stock photos. Trying to round them back up.

What's with the smiley face...there's a bunch right above this text box. Does that mean they can't be used any more on stock sites. There a dozens of variations of smiley faces. Some of their definitions are a bit confusing

There are proubably more, but the survivors don't know how to go about getting the royalties so they don't bother. Of course the stock agency isn't going to question why a contributors earning's haven't been collected for awhie when no new uploads have been done but sales are still being produced.

I assume it takes the same flash card as the D200 right? and what about the battery? are they the same or different? Sure would be nice to have that extra battery if needed.

I'd take the D90. I have it and I am totally satisfied. It is a big step ahead from the other bodies like D60, etc., and I'd say it comes close to the D300. For some of the newer things like the flash options, it is very good, it has all the options needed for full operation of the external flashes: it can operate remote flashes without buying the wireless trigger (I don't remember its name), it can detect all the information the flash transmits, such as which color foil you put on the flash for WB, and more. Some of these options are only included in the D90, D700 and D3, not even the D300 can command all of those things. The image quality is very good, and you can use it with lenses without motor. You can buy the motorless f1.8 50mm for something like 100$ or so. I think the only thing the D5000 has that the D90 doesn't have is the tiltable LCD screen. When you use Live View it might come in handy, holding the camera overhead. However, LiveView for now is a no-option, it is so slow, so I never use it except in special situations.
I wouldn't care about the live view, I doubt I would use it and as for the tilt LCD screen I would think it could be something that could easily damaged because it comes away from the body. I think I will end up going with the D90 even though it is a little more and it has more options and the fact one can buy the cheeper lens with the AF motor being built into the camera body

One unavoidable truth about image inspecting is that there are only 2 options. Approval or rejection. Its one or the other, with very few grey areas in-between. Unfortunately, one of the biggest factors in deciding whether to approve or reject any certain image is the strength of your previous uploads. Ie. if you have a proven track record of approvals and/or sales, the inspector will most likely be (much) more inclined to approve those borderline images when the decision to do so is more objective. So, if you have a 80-90% approval rating and an ok sales record then you will experience much fewer rejections, even if the composition or lighting of certain individual (or even series of) images is questionable.
Having been an editor for a few years I know that there is a lot of talent out there. One mistake is to start off by uploading too much and degrading the overall quality of your port, too early in the game. On top of having to improve your skills and tricks, you've got a massive approval deficit to improve as well. Remember, you start at the top with a 100% approval rating.
My point is that there is a 'tipping point' where if you can maintain quality over quantity for an extended period of time you have a much higher chance of getting the better of those borderline inspections.
Not preaching, just saying. I do consult a few successful contributors about these things, so if you've got any questions, drop a PM. Peace
I agree with what you said to a degree, but when the same images they reject are being accepted by the more profitable and bigger agencies then their reveiwers need a lesson it what is and what isn't the correct exposure and composition

I also think that you'll get used to seeing f-stop and shutter speed on the rear LCD very quickly if you go with the D5000.
For me D90 won mainly because of commander mode of internal flash - for D5000 I'd need to by SU-800 == bring them on the same price level.
I'm leaning more towards the D90. Even though the body is more expensive I think the fact that it has the AF motor built into the camera body, I could pick up cheeper lens that won't really work well with the D5000, so in the long run I think it will be cheeper.
