« on: September 22, 2012, 19:55 »
There are buyers on the ss forum, just as there is here.

Yea but when someone pimps a dog in a toy fire engine I doubt that buyers are looking for that.  In fact I doubt that buyers look for their needed images in forums.  The reality is that pimping is like pooping.  The only one that cares and feels good is the pimper/pooper.
There could be a buyer with a subscription, who thought the pimped image was nice, beautiful or usefull and just downloaded it.

IF they produce sales.
And if they govern your copyright decently.
And IF they dont annoy you too much.

I think its more that we are getting burried. And also that popularity does not seem to affect searches, so the pictures just age and disappear.

And I tend to be very forgivefull, when the agency produces sales for me, when it doesnt, I get more and more annoyed with details and finally pull my port.,

I emailed them and said  I wanted my 12,96 dollars paid.
They said I could give it to a buyer.
If i had an expensive attorney for cheap, i would sue them.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Storing Photos - Backup
« on: September 21, 2012, 13:22 »
I store them online where they work and sell.
Then I have some working disks where I cant find anything, and it doesnt matter, because if I need a picture, I just take it.
I also have 100.000 files on disks that I dont look at and dont  know if the disks are connected.
I dont even bother to delete files,  I just throw out the disks or even the computers.

Files are not important, storage neihter. The point is to get rid of the waste and not spend money on dead useless things.
And old files are dead.

Ask yourself if you ever looked back at the 500 pictures you took of the bench in october 2010?
Or a better proof. Do you have an "important" disk, that had to be disconnected, and that you have not looked at for a year.

« on: September 21, 2012, 12:15 »
All the agencies have long review times these days.

Which means "harvest time". All the photogs are spitting out streams of images and they all pile up in the gateway.

1536
Yes it also made me mad and I sent a sharp reply.
But id rahter give it away to a buyer (contributor was not suggested) than have it wasted and eaten by the agency.

It unbelievable all those little dirty tricks they use.
Im tired of it.

Photo Critique / Re: poor lighting rejection
« on: September 21, 2012, 06:28 »
Light is as said not good, the shadows are confusing, and the light parts are burned out, almost.
The red cloth, does nothing good to the picture.
They are not really sharp.
LCV probably also
Composition?: objects too small in the fram and too random.
+ and what is it?

I have closed my account on desposit photos and such they owe me 13 dollars.
I asked them to send the amount to me.
"It is not our policy.." bla bla.
But funny enough I can give the amount away to a buyer.

If I knew one.
So is there a buyer on desposit photo, who wants 12,96 dollars?

It might be cheaper to buy a new camera that can handle high iso.

It is the same. There was a small surge in the beginning of september but it has vanished now.
Sales are slowing down all across the board.
Which means, you should look around to find other outlets.

Its simple, there are too many photos online, and too many who do it.
Also we cannot compete with free pictures from FB and Flickr.

No it is not.
When first your pictures are online and visible, you will sell.

Dont worry, ss is far better than dt.

I dont like that they put you back in searces ( If they do) when you are close to a payout and every second week.
My sales at DT are very inconsistant, some weeks they perform well, other weeks they are completely dead.

It is as if the dead periods are longer and increasing.
I dont upload much to them anymore.

I photograph the butterflies they can put on oat meal packets in Mexico.
And also the oats if they want that.

We do pop.

no shame in that.
it is an art in it self.

1544
Noone wants to be a reviewer.
I can understand that, 4 cents per image. What would you expect?

And you choose right and wrong. And get blamed aftewards by contributors who love their photo, their model or themselves.

Lousy job.

New Sites - General / Re: Anyone Selling on Colourbox?

They are undermining themselves and the contributors.
I was in dialouge with them once about that, but they didnt care.
The staff is young yuppies, "urban professionals", and cannot imagine the impact the world can have on the naive ethos they live after.
Worst problem they have is their search engine.
I cannot find my own pictures.
They get burried in masses of generic stuff.
Like my latin named  swallowtail is burried under masses of purple monarchs.
That makes it meaningless to upload.

New Sites - General / Re: Anyone Selling on Colourbox?
« on: September 18, 2012, 06:06 »
I have been on colourbox for 3-4 years and kept it secret, to not have too much competition.
But now the competition is there and it doesnt matter anymore.

And yes  I have sold a lot of pictures there, like 10- 12 thousands in total.

But that was last year or the year before. Now sales have declined to 1/10 of what they used to be: down to 5 a day from 50 a day.
Also I have withdrawn my best images from the site, as the licence is "very open to intrepretation" and  I simply dont want to undermine my sales.
Anyway, they have a careless policy about MR and other legal issues, and it is an agency that takes almost everything, plus actually has many sales.
Most of their images are used in Danish and Scandinavian newspapers, and was the cheap choice of pictures for any journalist if he wanted to illustrate something generic.
I have seen my pictures online in every big media in Scandinavia, many times. Frontpages and all, television, online newspapers and government homepages.
And all  that for 20 cents.
Thats not good enough, and I dont upload much to them anymore.
My record there was 82 pictures sold at one day. It was mostly pictures of Danish money and flowers.
Today I sold one picture, a pile of firewood in the forest.
Yesterday  I sold 5, rubberboots and Danish currency.

This picture is in the "most downloaded" lightbox on CB, it probably had 200 sales:

General Stock Discussion / Re: Attracting more customers myth
« on: September 18, 2012, 04:30 »
Free pictures is a very dangerous thing.
and actually function like a buyout, because you loose all rights to them ( practical rights that is).
So a free picture should be paid like a buyout by the agencies, which they would never think of.
But we photographers should.

Again we are being fooled
