It sounds like copyright infridgement in their own words. The photo wasn't changed to the point you wouldn't know it was the same image so I would say it is copyright infridgement by their own definition.

What lens would you recomend for an all around lens? The one that mainly is all attached to that camera for all those on the spot candid shots. I love my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8
Much cheaper than the Nikon version and produces very nice results.
I also think that you'll get used to seeing f-stop and shutter speed on the rear LCD very quickly if you go with the D5000.
Tamron makes some decent lens don't they? I've never tryed them

What I wish is that I was back in Dallas Tx where I could actually go to a Ritz Camera and compare the two, but here in the boon docks of Alabama there isn't anywhere that I could do that. Maybe in Birmingham four hours away.

This is a question worth posing to get clarifications, at least to the bigger sites. Maybe I'll shoot off a question to the admins at SS, IS, DT and FT to ask them that if a contributor dies, can the spouse log in and update payment information into his/her name and update the social security number and other pertinent info. It would really bother me to think they might prevent this. I have come to see my microstock revenue as a sort of secondary life insurance that would provide a nice dividend for my family at least for a little while after my death.
Good suggestion...let us know what you find out. hopefully it will be what we'd like to hear.

It appears the D5000 doesn't have the information thing (don't know what it called) at the top of the camera......I don't know if I could photograph without that. It's on my D200.
The variable angle monitor would be nice, but then on the other hand if for some reason the camera was knocked over or hit, I would think the monitor would be broken. That wouldn't be so great.
I don't think I could use the live view, I'm so use to looking through the viewfinder and when someone asks me to take a picture of them with their point and shoot I really sound stupid because I don't know how to operate it or use it with that live view.

Depends a lot on your budget. My favorite's the Nikon 24-70mm F/2.8 for anything involving people. If I'm shooting landscapes, it's the 17-55mm F/2.8. Neither one is exactly inexpensive, but the quality's worth it. A little too much chromatic aberration on the 17-55 on a sunlit day, but that's easy to fix in Adobe Camera Raw. You do shoot raw, don't you?
Of course Raw....thats the only way

I would say the D90 just because of the in body focus motor. It opens up a wider variety of lenses for you.
If you're wondering which lenses, I'd put the 85mm F/1.8 and the older 50mm F/1.4 or F/1.8 on the list of must haves. The newest 50mm F/1.4 has a built-in motor (the AF-S version), but the earlier version is cheaper, faster to focus and reputedly a little bit sharper in certain situations. I don't use my 50mm or 85mm primes all that often, but often enough that I'd regret not having the option.

That is really something to consider. I have thought about it every once in awhile and realize those images will sit on those sites forever unless the site goes out of business and if they continue to sell that income will just pile up forever and ever. And sites like Shutterstock will send you a 1099 at the end of the year to you after you're dead. I don't think the IRS would be understanding on this matter. You would have to go through a probate process to get the income put into your name and would have to show you inherited the copyright. More than likely I would assume the sites would remove your images. Depending on the country and the agency they more than likely wouldn't coraparate and if there was any large sums of money you'd proubably have to end up taking them to court and that would cost a fortune.....so the stock company would again hold on to the money so they can cushion their coffers.

Hi Anita,
I use www.Lookstat.com to do al my post production work in Micro and they post my work to the top 10 sites. I don't have the time. Before I was with the top 5 agencies doing it on my own and both Lookstat and I figured if they offered me 10 sites I might as well upload to them and hopefully the other 5 will off set the cost I pay for Lookstat to cover my costs to them. It is a big help from Lookstat and this way I don't have to bother, and if some of the other agencies start to do better then I am already there with no extra effort. Just a suggestion.
Best, Jonathan
I've heard of them before but have never used them. What do they cost?

I was just checking out EBAY and there are quite a few D5000's on there but not many D90's. That is proubably because photographer's perfer the D90 so there isn't as many floating around out there.

I agree Jonathan, I think that's why I'm really considering going with a new one. I'd love the D300 but know that's out of my reach right now, but there are a few 12.3mp camera's out there now at a more reasonable price. Just got to decide which. I really think it would actually be cheeper than repairing or just a little more for a new one.

PERSEUS What stock site are you on that pays out at $25.00? All the ones I'm on payout at $50.00 or $100.00, no less. Unless one of my non performer's do. Ass to the point of paying out per month, look at it this way, if you had 10 bucks sitting in 10 different accounts waiting for the 50 dollar mark...that adds up to 100 bucks. Then the risk of these companies going under with your 10 bucks that they won't pay back because of their agreement adds up. Many of the unknown stock sites do this.
edit: sorry that ass word was suppose to be As.

Trying to compare camera'a. Which is better the D90 or the D5000? They both are 12mp but the D5000 is a little cheeper than the D90. Just wonder what the difference is. I don't care about the video so if that's the difference then I'd go with the cheeper D5000. Hope someone knows.

I haven't checked recently but last time I did I think my total earning with them was $8.00 +. I really don't mess with them anymore because they are a waste of my time.

How strangely conservative microstock buyers must be. It's not that they are strangely conservative. Advertising has to be geared to every single person your product might possibly reach. A company can't afford to alienate what is likely the largest group of buyers (mainstream society). I think a better word would be safe or generic.
I agree...the older generation would be pushed away from a tattoo whereas the younger generation would be drawn to it and if the product is suppose to be geared at all generations they need to be some what generic.

How are your sales with that many uploads?
I looked at your portfolio and noticed the five dollar bill. I'm surprised they let you put that on there. I had a problem with some of the stock sites (can't remember if they were one of them) saying they couldn't put a full image of currency on the web because of counterfiting. You can put a partial image just not a full one.
donding
My sales have been steadily increasing with my having had multiple BMEs at SS in the last six month. My December was $2.00 short of topping my November BME so I am very happy there.
Regarding the U.S. Five Dollar Bill and other currency, I had a couple of flat money images that were approved prior to their changes to their upload policies for these kinds of images. So I guess for now the images out there will continue to earn until they make a policy of removing images of this type that were previously accepted as SS.
Back on topic. What kind of upload pace do you maintain per week to maintain your sales own volume at SS ?
-Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com
To be honest with you I don't know for sure how many images I have on there. I upload in fairly large batchs. I haven't uploaded for awhile now because of other things going on in my life and then yesterday my camera decided to crap out, so I got all kinds of time on my hands. That's why I've been on here so much lately. I gotta compare camera now. You got any recomendations? I got a D200 right now.

Question is this...do any of you know what the costs would be to repair the camera as well as the lens?? Or would I be better to think about a new camera? Interesting...you have a lot of confirmation that your issue is sand and dirt, donding, and that's what it sounds like to me. Are you still interested in repair costs (see post 4) or are you just going to buy a new camera?
I doubt that repair costs would be cheep because of the vibration feature of it and I know in the past when I got another lens repaired....which wasn't even worth repairing....it cost me to just send it in to check it out. I've started having problems with the camera also with alot of noise even at low iso. I have a feeling it my be the sensor but it wasn't bad enough to mess with. I'd dare say it's all from that beach sand. How do you clean a lens after that or do you have to send them in? Anyway more than likely I'll be looking at a new camera. I'm really not sure. I'm been online shopping since there isn't to many places around here that even handle Nikon. The D90 or the D5000? or is it the D3000, can't remember, but it's the one's that are 12mp. Seems like the are reasonable in price.

They've being around quite a bit as a 3D site, but have gotten into stock photos since August of last year (I think), they're fairly new to the market but I have really high hopes in this one, I'm uploading there every chance I get (480+ so far w/edit: 7 sales), easy to upload to, very helpful and friendly administration and you collect your commissions at the end of every month (60%), sales are not abundant yet, but they do sell...personally I'm very happy with 3Dstudio, Matt and his crew.

Here's my referal link in case you want to join in.
I'll have to try it...I like the idea about getting paid for your sales at the end of every month so I wouldn't be stuck on a site with a little earnings waiting for payout. I wish they would all start doing that.

Maybe I'll start to learn since I have all kinds of time now that I found out today my camera crapped out!!
That blows! Is is completely toast or is it fixable? We're finally getting our computer fixed after 7 months ordered the part last night. I hope your situation isn't like that at all.
I've been having noise problems with it for awhile...I got a feeling it's the sensor where the camera is concerned, but then earlier today I went to do some stock shots and my 18-200 lens AF isn't working. It sounds like a grinding stone when I turn the focus ring. I spent alot of time photographing on the beach this summer and I got a feeling that fine sand is the cause of it all. Yes it proubably can be repaired but is the cost of repair outweigh the cost of getting a new camera. It will be awhile before I get another with all the stress that is going on in my life right now

Are they worth uploading to and is it hard to become an approved contributor? And from reading the posts it sounds like you're getting paid per upload if I read that wrong, forgive. I looked over there and didn't see any info on it. I'm looking to expand my reach. I'm down to 5 stock sites and this one sounds interesting.
Thanks,
Anita
I would suggest you go to their website and do a search for your type of images before you even consider it. Most of the photos I saw in general had no or very little downloads on them. I had never heard of them untill this post.
