Nope....none but the big 6 in my opinion...and it depends on your type of photography rather those would even work for you. My best sites are istock, dreamstime, shutterstock and bigstockphoto. I really don't quite understand why they show 123rf as being in the big 6 and not bigstockphoto.

How are your sales with that many uploads?
I looked at your portfolio and noticed the five dollar bill. I'm surprised they let you put that on there. I had a problem with some of the stock sites (can't remember if they were one of them) saying they couldn't put a full image of currency on the web because of counterfiting. You can put a partial image just not a full one.

Perseus Fotolia was one of the first sites I got on and started selling right off the bat. That stopped shortly after and it wasn't untill last June that I was able to cash out $54.00. I signed on over two years ago..Now I got a whoping total of $26.75 on there so they have always been at the bottom for me. I gotta take that back....123RF is worse of course I haven't been with them that long and I only upload to them when I don't have any thing else to do...so Fotolia ranks 5th for me in earning

You know I can understand rejects with some of the big 6 but when pictures are accepted at all of the big 6 and rejected at some of these smaller agencies, I really wonder if they just got some brand new reject keys and they gotta test them out.....lol

It still grinds in either manual or auto...when it's not attached to the camera and I turn the focus ring it grinds. I'm sure it was from the beach shots in Florida. That sand is so fine and gets into everything. Next time I go I think I'll put plastic wrap around my lens.....lol. Of course after this I think I'll just leave the camera at home.

My thoughts exactly! It's too risky.
And this is the very reason why I reject exclusivity at one single site. They might review their review standards, and all of a sudden you will have most or your images rejected and can do nothing about it.
Regards, Oliver
.
i haven't been with micro stock long enough . but maybe the oldies here can help with this question.
in my observation, i know that SS and IS are completely contrary to each other. ie. IS high ratio approved contributors fail most with SS and vice versa due to post processing preference of either site. also, lately IS and FT seem to be sharing one brain. iow, what IS approves FT does and vice versa. maybe their reviewers are identical, except it may not be so since i thought that IS exclusives review indies submissions; unless these same IS exclusives are moonlighting as FT reviewers. not another conspiracy theory, just too many coincidences to ignore. coincidences that work for me to get my approval rate consistent with FT and IS.
but i wonder if the installation of ex IS CEOs to FT has anything to do with this sudden change in review behaviour.
That's not the case with me because most of the same photos that are uploaded to fotolia get rejected whereas they are accepted in istock.

I admire Elena's honesty and sometimes it is better to be truthful than pretend everything is going well, like some other sites have. I think FP have made some big mistakes and they might be fatal but I will leave my portfolio there because there is always a slim chance that they will turn it around and get something going.
Your right about her honesty, I guess I owe her credit for that. Thanks for pointing that out. I hope your right about that "slim chance" because I have a good size portfolio there and it would take forever to get it off there....I don't see me doing it any time soon but I will proubably do it if things don't pick up there soon....one sale over a one year span just doesn't work for me.

It's the 18-200 that is the main lens I use. That is the one that the AF went out on and when I try to manual focus it....it sounds like I'm grinding stone with it. It has been sticking for awhile but usually if I turned it out of focus then it would go back into focus and the 18-70 I have isn't worth a crap as every one proubably knows.

You had a 18-70 f3.5/5.6 with your D200. I did some stock at my begining with this lens, until it start to back focus quite a lot. Images wasn't really sharp anyway.
I worked in a photography store and I saw many second and thrid repair issue with the cameras. You may want to upgrade your D200 for a D90 (or whatever else) which is quite cheap but do as good images than your D200. It will also allow you XL at most places. Even have videos. Go on Nikon.com and see the prices
Whoops sorry it was a 18-70...you can tell I hardly ever used it. I had a issue with that lens when I first got the camera. I didn't buy the insurance...it cost me $198.00 just to get it repaired and I'm not real sure they ever actually ever sent it in to get it repaired. That was why I bought the 18-200...I was one of the ones on the pre pay waiting list that took 6 months to get. Anyway since the two lens I have are pretty much crap now would it be better to go with a canon. It really doesn't matter to me if it has video on it.

Yup...same here..I hardly upload there any more...very few sales, but I do find it some what strange when they accept some of the same photos in a series and when you upload some in a separete upload....so the don't do the ""to many similar images" on you....they turn them down for poor lighting or composition. I sometimes wonder if some of the reviewers need to have their monitors calibrated.

The most dreaded has finally happened I just went to try to do some stock shots and the auto focus on my 18-200 lens won't work. When I try to do it manually (which doesn't do so well with me because I need new glasses...lol) it sounds like a grinding wheel. I knew all those beach shots would kill it eventually...but I didn't want to face it! The other lens ...the crappy 18-80 that came with the D200 has so much noise it wouldn't even be useable. I started haveing noise issues with the 18-200 lens awhile back so that may be the camera./ Question is this...do any of you know what the costs would be to repair the camera as well as the lens?? Or would I be better to think about a new camera? I hate the thought of all this because all my money is being pumped into a lawyer trying to fight for an estate matter.........ahhhh maybe I ought to open a stock site to defray the cost Anyway any advice from you experts out there would be appreciated!!!

Vonkara, I'm not sure what type of people you are used to dealing with, but the sound deeply immoral, this is certainly not what we are about.
etienjones, I think that we may have found a kindred spirit in you, all the best with the photography and life
Newsfocus1, no worries at all. I agree that it is currently difficult, but we do have a plan (we believe it's a good one), we just need to sort out our current web developers (not an area I specialise in ~ possibly time for a hitman?). I appreciate your suggestions, they are ones that we will look at, and hopefully we should be able to bring a more polished product to the market. As a community site we do welcome all feedback.
Thank you guys
Richard
Don't you think it would have been smarter to have waited untill your site was up and running correctly before you stated inviting contributors? The way it looks it would push them away just as you have seen here. Not real smart marketing in my opinion

I joined them because they sounded and looked promising. That was about a year or so ago. Now when you read the forum and people say they haven't had any sales and aren't uploading any more.....Elena...I believe that is her name.... always tells them it's been a slow month and tells them if they aren't seeing sales then it would proubably be a good idea to stop uploading untill things pick up.........What is that all about? ...the administrator is telling you not to upload??? I personally quit uploading because of no sales, but it surprised me she would say something like that if she wanted to market her site. I think she's given up and it is just a matter of time.

I read the link that sjlocke posted and it explains it all much better. I have my own website but don't do anything with it...the photos I have on there are really old. Maybe I'll redo it so it can be a market place for different stock sites. I just need to figure out how to market it. As one of the sites said...don't just put a bunch of stock site banners on there because customers will wonder why you have to put all your photos on all those sites if your photos are so special . They also tend to shy away from the site if it just has a bunch of banners on it. I know I'm that way. If it's all banners I will go elsewhere.

Perseus....I'm glad you have good luck with them...good thing you found what type you like because most photographers that are on them either have alot of success with them or none at all. They just seem to be so different. Back when I first started uploading with them, just about everything made it through their review process. Now it's not the same. One of my best selling shots on there are three cans of vegetables....it's a horrible picture...some of the details of the brands are still on the cans. Today there would be no way they would approve it...(believe me I have tryed with just about everything photoshoped out.) But it sells over and over again. Of course it may be because it's the only one out there that actually looks like can's of vegetables...hopefully they won't read this and charge all the profits I'm made off the picture back to my account and delete the pictures!!!

Most people think they can rake in the cash....for example my Aunt wanted the names of all the photography websites I'm on so she could put her photos on them to sell as well. I told her you need more than a 4mp camera and can't use your camera phone and explained to her that she would need model realeases for the people and property releases for the properties she photographs. she still insisted I give them to her so I did. Maybe she found out she couldn't get on them because I haven't heard her say anything else about it. I hate to put down my Aunt, but the biggest majority of her pictures weren't even in focus, but I didn't want to tell her that.......maybe the microstock agencies did it for me.....
It's better that way. Maybe now your aunt will show some more respect for your work and will stop thinking that photography is simply pushing a button.
After I finally ask her for money to print all those photos she always wants printed, she quit asking about that also. I have a Epson photo printer and again everyone always think I can print out all their digital photos for them and they don't realize that costs me more money than if they took them to Walmart!

God forbid you should upload a pair of boots and a pair of shoes....they would reject them for being to many like images. Last time I looked a pair of boots and a pair of shoes don't look quite the same. But if you upload in small batches being careful not to include those "like" images together then it's more likely they will get through. Sad but true....

I know some of you have links to the stock sites rather than to your portfolio's on those sites. Do you get a % of anyones sales if they join through the link when they get their first sale?
I'm beginning to think that's another avenue of income if that is true.

I've had 5 sales in the last three days. I've kept having sales, just not as much as before, but heh....something is better than nothing. Better for me than Fotolia or 123RF

It is funny because the ones that almost everyone else accepts, they reject for some weird reason, and the ones they accept are rejected by the others. Of course it's always the ones that they reject that do the best on all the other agencies.
I have resubmitted a couple of times and some of them were accepted, but I really don't mess with them much anyway except for the routine upload with all the agencies. The profit for me is with the other agencies.

I think Featurepics is possibly on their death bed. I'm tired of trying to bring them back to life. I managed to contribute $8.00 to their coffers.
Seriously, is ANY one actually making ANY money with Featurepics? I'm really considering deleting my account, that way I can put the ton of mid stock images I put on there in my microstock accounts. I quit uploading a long time ago.
Something just isn't right when just about every photo you have on all other micro sites combined doesn't sell....whoops forgot about the one $8.00 one. Of course that was before their price changes.

I wish that was the case for me. I just don't do their type of photograghy...what ever that type is... Heh if I could cash out my $50.00 once a year rather than once every century I might actually get excited...lol. I still upload there along with the other ones just because its in the routine
