Sales these days are dire, across all agencies.

It sounds like you are upset because you didn't read the terms of agreement before you started uploading there.
You're right, I hadn't read that particular part. I'd heard about the 6 months term before, but I thought it only applied to removal for exclusivity reasons.

PantherMedia hardly sells, clumsy interface. Not worth the effort.

"You can disable all files approved more than six months ago at any time. You are allowed to disable 30% of files uploaded in the recent six months however 70% must be kept online for six months from their approval date. You can disable each of your remaining 70% after the six months pass." RIDICULOUS! I find it disgusting that DT has the gall to keep my files online without my consent. How in the world can they do this? I just discovered that some time ago, I accidentally uploaded some files which were recently approved and online. Now I want to remove them, but I can't, because they decide in my place that they can keep my files hostage for 6 months. That's just beyond words!

Im also aware that our prices level are not for every one, nevertheless Im happy that we already receive thousands of media from contributors that decided to give us a shot. That's saddening news. We're at the stage where we're gathering media and it's obvious that not everybody will gives a try. Maybe some of you will give us chance, some will come later if at all. I understand and respect that.
Every newcomer has a rough start. I would be grateful for some more tips that will help me and my team to build a better marketplace. It could have been less rough if your offer was more interesting. Increase your prices/commissions and you might get our attention. Right now your business sounds like another cheap agency trying to grab a piece of the pie. Also, why the name VPuzzler?

Istock has lost their minds.
No way I'm going to redo hundreds of images. And for what, better placement in Google search, so that they get to keep 80%-85% of my sales at the cost of other sales? And if SEO matters so much, why are they going to remove descriptions and lightboxes? Which bright manager at Istock came up with that nonsense?

Just in case anybody is in any doubt about the wisdom of starting out with iStock for video uploads, I've just hit rock bottom with a $3.42 royalty for a HD video. Dreadful.
I take it you're going to remove your videos from Istock?

Yeah, that thing of SS used to work pretty smoothly. Ever since that new uploader it's not the same anymore.

FT is sealing much more in Europe than in US and they have more contributors from outside EU, being paid in dollars.
You also forgot they have a lot of contributors from EU, but being paid in dollars.
[devil's advocate]European contributors who sign up at the US site can blame themselves for that.[/devil's advocate]

Zach, I know you want to keep it simple but I feel your pricing for HD footage is too cheap. It of course matters what percentage we receive but $49 to the customer for all footage is too low. I would need to see some option for higher pricing. At this point I would pass on your company.
Zeus has a point. Even though the commissions are 100%, $49 for HD is a little low. Not cheap per se, but it could be higher. ClipCanvas sells for $69 or so, SS sells for $79 for a HD clip. Why not make the $49 a $59 or something?

The number of sales will be unaffected, because customers pay in their own currency.
Contributors in Europe are still better off with their EUR accounts. The currency difference has become smaller, that's all. (Six months ago, EUR payout value was much higher compared to USD accounts)

Personally i pretty agree with you, but there's a but:
1- If someone wants to sell a 4k clip is free to do it Of course he is, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Most contributors loathe it when agencies cut their commissions or lower their prices for customers, because it lowers the value of video as a whole. The same goes for contributors offering their clips for $10. 2- as per you're statement he should be an amateur
This leads to the conclusion that you're a professional therefore youre clips should have a better quality.
That person is an amateur not because of his quality, but because he doesn't know how to value his own work and price it according to its commercial value. I'm not saying my clips automatically have better quality, quality is not the issue here. If someone is looking for quality will choose your videos not one by an amateur. If someone is NOT looking for a quality video chooses for a 10$ 4k or, worse, just choose to shoot by himself.
If you really believe that your work is in better quality you should not be scared of the price falling. Personally i'm not scared by a 4k video sold for 10$. For the record: i price around 50$ my clips (i have only HDs)...i don't give the same price to all my clips, what in my opinion is better i put an higher price. Scared is not the correct word, it's more annoyance than scared. You're right about someone looking for quality will maybe not look at pricing. But say I have priced a certain clip at $79, and someone with a clip of the same level of quality has priced it at $20. I'm not saying everyone would go for the $20 clip, but it will alter the customer's perception of what a quality clip should be worth.

I think people lowering their prices "because it sells better" ought to be going bankrupt. They deserve it, for undermining the marketplace and the income of everyone who do price their clips according to quality.
Some people here are saying they have lowered prices for easily produced footage, but it's not about how much work it takes to shoot it, it's about PERCEIVED VALUE for the customer. Your simple test shot may seem worthless to you, but a buyer would perceive it as something he wants. Why price it at $10 then? If you really think your test shots are worthless, DON'T UPLOAD THEM. I just saw some 4K clips being sold for $22-$30. It's utterly insane. It's mostly amateurs who really don't know how to value their work. I hope Pond5 will do something about this devaluation of their site, because this behaviour makes it impossible to generate any decent sales.
For the record: I price my clips at $79 (HD) and $199 (4K).

Yes, avoid at all costs. I was wondering if the DT is part of big-4 for images, can we consider DT for selling video and expect any progress?
You can consider it, but the answer should be 'no'.

Although I'm just starting out as a video contributor, I have had some sales on SS and MotionElements, so they're my top2 for the time being.
FT, 123RF: 1 sale so far. (Evil agencies, but I don't think their video prices are bad)
Pond5: According to many contributors, Pond5 is the market leader but I haven't had sales there yet. Revostock, ClipCanvas, Canstock: no sales whatsoever. I'll keep supporting them.
I don't upload to Istock and DT, as they have horrible prices/commissions.

is this for real? why would they do it this way. Seems to be a bad business plan and I will not invest my clips is a bad company!
Actually the business plan (unlimited database for subscribers and a separate marketplace for contributors) sounds plausible to me. I'm willing to give them a chance.

Looking for advice I'm thinking start to submit some clips to IS. I'm waiting for approval
"Final clip Submissions: Start by uploading a low-resolution proxy file. Our inspection team will review the proxy and let you know if we want you to upload the full-resolution clip. "If the proxy file is approved you will receive an e-mail with instructions" This conditions are update? worth it? Really seems from other time
I think you still have to do this. But keep in mind: in September they slashed non-exclusive video prices. Instead of getting $18 per HD download (on the low side, since SS pays $24) you will now receive only $7 or so per HD download. So think twice about uploading to them. You'll be undercutting your sales at SS/Pond5.

I have uploaded some video files on VideoBlocks. However, after tagging my files, the files cannot be sent to the review queue because the videos are still processing after a few hours. How long does this take?

If I were to render animations in 4K resolution, which pixel resolution should I ideally use, actual 4k (4096x2160) or Ultra HD (3840x2160)?
You could do 4096X2304.This is 16:9 AR and is a more realistic choise given that whoever buys it can choose to crop it to 1:9 AR to match a cinema camera project, or any other AR for that matter down to 2:35. Stock footage (propably) mostly lives as 16:9 and i suspect that at this point 2304p clips are mostly bought to be cropped or post zoomed for effect, or in some cases -depending on the frame and subject- be used like multiple shots in 16:9 projects, so that's where i would start. In fact that's what i do personally and there has been positive feedback so i guess that works for me.
Thanks, I've decided to follow your advice on this.

I see they have increased Extended License prices for Bronze to 60. Good news. But my prices are still set at 50.
Note to everyone: make sure that you ask Fotolia to set your prices to the maximum (you can do it yourself but you'd have to do it one by one.)

It was only noticeable with OD sales, but even then, the increase in RPD can easily be offset by less sales, so all in all, you won't really notice it.

I want to ask especially if they give some kind of score to the images which then affects their location in the search engine
I find that hard to believe.
