50 downloads / month Subscriptions:
Thinkstock $139/month
iStock     $89/month
Make sense?

I think to minimize the pain, they are slowly attracting TS customers over to Istock through lower pricing. They will eventually pull the plug on TS as "NOT SUSTAINABLE".

General Stock Discussion / Re: Video pricing
« on: November 21, 2015, 09:43 »
Rare footage of hurricane eyewalls, tornadoes, volcanic eruption, car crashes in blizzards etc can easily fetch $50 USD or more per second for broadcast. In Pond5 pricing I find $299 is the sweet pricing spot since that equates fairly roughly to $50/s given buyers rarely use a shot for longer than 6 seconds.

Anyone can shoot campus life and general environment footage so that won't command nearly as high a price - too much competition.

Quick update here:
I don't have proper stats for you yet but I did make the play this week, there is a 3 day delay before you see the sales results at the new price so I only have data from Thursday and Friday since I adjusted prices Monday morning but lets just day the price experiment will be continuing. Sales are happening at the new price. I am cautiously optimistic.

I think it's time for everyone to treat it as a business and as if it was a physical product and raise prices reasonably so we not only cover all costs of making the product and make profit.  We are not a charity but so many are acting as if we are, we are not.  In my case I am using three main sites, all have different price points which does help to not exclude the clients with smaller budgets.
One of the things I do is when a clip is downloaded two more more times I bump up the price (on P5).  I have one that sells fairly regularly and i have been successful at bumping its price up by $30. Similar with other clips of mine.  One has to be careful, though.  A commodity clip will not be able to compete at higher pricing.  The clip must have uniqueness to it like JJNEFF's Niagara Falls footage. A video of a beach will generally have hundreds if not thousands of choices unless it isa a very specific beach with very few clips of it. I have one of those in HD but will be going back to re-shoot it in 4K latter in December.

edit: I don't know why I cannot post outside of someone elses quote.

No 4K for me and ZIP downloads this month. Something simply does not add up.

Feel the same way.Nowhere else have i gone from 2-5 downloads a day to 2-5 downloads in 2 weeks.
I believe it is the end of their subs program where people joined massively and bought massively and after that everyrthing is quiet once again.
Like a black friday stock footage marketplace :)
Helloitsme is reporting growth but he seems to be the only one here so far and we dont know the number of his clips,so...

I think you hit the nail on the head.

I think photos for "prime" collection are hand-picked by editors from "core" collection.

This is true based on an email I just got from them. All you do is upload and submit. They do the rest and your Prime collection is merely at the mercy of their reviewers as to whether an image gets selected.

« on: November 21, 2015, 09:10 »
No. Pulled my port after a very constructive discussion with the owner. Not joking, the behind the scenes dialog with him was very friendly and he completely understood why I chose to part ways.

Luckily, they owe me only like $50.

That's only if their sales report was honest of course.

$80 for me, not much and I really don't care. I am more angry for those who lost thousands.

October is way down for me, about 50%. For me 50% = about $150.

Funny, I just signed back up for them. Now that I've read that he is in charge of growth with large companies, that means special promises of less money but more downloads.  fk that.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS FTP video upload very very slow !
« on: November 19, 2015, 07:47 »
I have very slow footage upload on Filezilla - for SS only !
Normal was 7-9 mbit/s, last days is 0,04 mbit/s.
On my side is everything ok (POND upload is 8-10 mbit/s)
Anybody else?

Yes. Almost like dial up. I had some videos that took two days to upload two weeks ago. They definitely have an issue.

« on: November 18, 2015, 21:04 »
Omendrive seems to have gone from iStock. I'm not certain because I'm either getting a blank page or a 'bad gateway' error rather than having a profile page but no files accessible, but I can access other people's homepages, so it seems likely they're gone.

He is indeed gone from IS.

I don't know how he does it but three cheers for stvagna. Every little bit of exposing these crooks helps. I am not a illustration contributor but it still makes me feel good when these people are exposed.

Seems fishy. I had 10 sales in Oct and zero so far in Nov. I did upload a lot in Oct so I wonder if I got a bump for it. So far very inconsistent.

October: $63

My pattern: $185, $160, $180, $150, $175, $155, $80, $85, $78, $90, $63.

So between $155 and $80 is when I they made a change. At about $78 I emailed them and that's when they told me they made a search change to make it fair for everyone and that they had to distribute the sales more fairly. This is not a case of crowd sourcing per se, it is an intentional change to give others sales who may or may not deserve it, may or may not have put in the blood, sweat & tears to develop a 4,000 asset portfolio, whatever. Bottom line, this is the new norm.

Always request payout first, get confirm of the transfer, then dump them.

Amen. It is simple as 2x2. No worries, no complaints. Case closed.
No, it's not as simple, for agencies paying automatically, once a month.
See the previous post.
Even if you close the account as soon as you get what you want to be your "last payment", you might still leave sales behind.

Yea, that is an issue with some agencies.  On Dissolve, they would not answer any of my emails. Luckily I could delete files individually before they sold more. I spent about an hour on the site and killed my entire port. Not on Getty so I don't know if you can delete your images manually, but if you have a couple of thousand it could be a bitch.

is the 123 upload broken?

I think so. My upload/FTP links are gone. I did get a "site down" error message last night, but it went away later and that's when my "process video files link was gone. It's still gone.

General Stock Discussion / Re: DMCA complaint
« on: November 14, 2015, 09:13 »
Several weeks ago someone from Dreamstime named Catalina Zaharescu-Tiensuu wrote that a customer had complained that I violated their copyright with an illustration. I sent her the link where it shows I uploaded the design to istockphoto in April of 2008. She emailed back they withdrew the complaint.

Yesterday I get an email asking if I want them to send a DMCA notice. What is that?

It means that they will take down that persons work and maybe close their account for copying you.

Really a shabby organization.

You mean Adobe? Really? Are PS and LR also part of this "shabbyness"?

Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk

When I was with them, yes. Today, their management that is from the old school is useless and proven to be so. Adobe, who is parenting FT might be a different story to a degree. But Adobe has its idiotic model, too, with shoving CC down our throats, so a little, yes.I can go on and on about Adobe because it isn't ALL about the product itself.

I get paid a lot more for some of the "Single & Other" sales with SS than I have ever received from istock as a non-exclusive.  I get sick of all the race to the bottom posts here, SS pay much more per download now than when I started or when I reached the top tier for subs.  As a non-exclusive, I can also sell on higher paying sites like alamy.  I got almost $600 for one sale there this year.

Sharpshoot, why? What may be working for you is not necessarily working for the masses. The industry HAS gone down the toilet, with Shutterstock being the exception for the most part.  I will admit I am happy about the occasional big sale but without those (and I believe many contributors, though I don't want to speak for everyone) I am way down on subs, general OD's and almost never anymore $28 EL's. So I would say SS is, to a degree, contributing to the race to the bottom. They also lowered 4K from $399 to $299. They were the first to do it.

But, I am glad you are seeing some good sales. And it is nice to know that in some capacities SS is still fighting for some juicy sales.

When I was with them they told me that their reviewers are not contactable. They live in apartments, dark dungeons, and have a high turnover...something along those lines. Not once have I ever gotten any constructive feedback, just to "keep uploading and shoot better pictures".  Really a shabby organization.

I'm another who isn't anonymous but support the option for those who wish it -- I've been online for over 30 years, and have been active in some forums where everyone was anonymous

I've been on some forums where noone is anonymous and it makes for nicer conversation, less trolls and people speak nicer to each other. Less forum bullies and mean people who do nothing but complain and attack others. More on subject conversation about the subject of forum.

Ask yourself how much here is about our microstock business and how much is politics, anger, attacking other or complaining.

Don't forget to add how many have been booted off sites for speaking up or forming constructive opinions. That's obviously a nasty subject too, unnecessary to be speaking about the bad part of micro stock in a micro stock forum, so let's just talk puppy dogs and ice creak from now on.
