Assignments has the user ID 1. Those users have all accidentally put 1 for referral id when filling the registration form. Any other conspiracies I can help with? Actually yes. Can I have nr. 1 as referral ID?

in terms of cultural/ethnic interest, i was intrigued by your 'small inaccessible community in the Bukidnon mountains'. i mean if you had a name for this subtribe that was part of a larger anthropoligical study of southeast asia, it would be a lot more significant Well in that respect there is bad news. The days of the colorful ignorant tribes in exotic faraway countries from National Geographic is long over. In the most remote corner I've been (on a motorbike over rocks), they all wear baseball caps, T-shirts "I love NYC", playing Celine Dion and txting on their cellphone. Most "ethnic" stuff in 2010 is fake, I suspect. There is more fauxtography around than one suspects. But I did shoot Obama

1 - Yuri claimed that DT doesn't accept the generic Getty release. Probably he used it unchanged, as to the country of jurisdiction (where Getty is represented). Based on the English Model Release form and with a few insignificant changes in style and some fonts, and replacing the countries of jurisdiction by "(...)", I made a blank MS-Word 1997-2003 doc format version that you can download clicking this link. (quoting myself) For myself, I changed (...) by my country of legal residence, which is Belgium. DT and SS accepted this form already for several models and several photos. 2 - Of my last 14 uploads, just before new year, 13 were accepted. One rejected was an editorial for "bad framing". So, not everybody seems to have the same experiences. 3 - It has been mentioned that level 1 images just give 30%. Well, first of all, IS gives 20%, and then, the level treshold has been lowered and starting at level 3, you'll get much more. And those are selling more.

Although my editorial went very well at SS, and still does, I stopped uploading editorial there. The special caption line is not that difficult, but like BigStock very recently started to do, they only take Editorial in the narrow sense of "newsworthy", discarding all cultural, educational, ethnical and other "interesting" stuff. Translated: they want headshots of Obama. My last Editorial reject on SS was this one: Description: Pelaez , Claveria, Mindanao, Philippines - JUNE 2: public pork meat sale in a local neighborhood of a small inaccessible community in the Bukidnon mountains during the annual fiesta on June 2, 2009.The reviewer that rejected it said the description was unclear: what is a "fiesta" and "why do they sell meat"? Well, an annual fiesta is an annual fiesta, and guess why they sell meat? ( why does SS sell photos?). I can't write a background novel in just 200 characters, especially since the time line takes a lot of space. So I gave up submitting editorial to SS, and if DT didn't accept most of it, I would retract it from microstock altogether and try RM.

and then there is "Assignment", some photographer from USA, who i have been informed that is actually someone with inside connections to DT, perharps another CEO of DT like Achilles, or a reviewer, or a shareholder... who gets priority in the exposure for DT. Don't look too hard for conspiracies. "Assignment" is the portfolio wholly owned by Dreamstime of contributors that sold the rights of their assignment photos, included the copyright. You can choose that when you participate in the assignment: (1) escalate to level 5, (2) sell the rights. Look here. This portfolio lists photography created by contributors and wholly-owned by Dreamstime. For more wholly owned content you can visit the Studio portfolio. "Assignment" has many referred members, none with a portfolio, probably buyers. Perhaps a way to keep referral earnings in house.

I've just noticed that one of DT admins, Sangiorzboy, has just uploaded 7! images for assignment. Is this fair for other contributors?? Everybody can upload up till 10. They rejected all images I sent for this assignment and now allow one of its admins to upload 7 images. Admins have to go through the acceptance process too. Maybe his shots were good, and yours didn't make the grade. Hard to tell why, since you don't have a portfolio link here, or you don't post the rejects. All of them duplicated, he had those images at his portfolio and now he has submitted them for assignment without removing the old ones That's a good strategy for images that have some sales potential, and that you want to bless with level 5 at once. Of course, after approval for the assignment, you should delete the old ones. You probably catched Sangiorzboy between the approval and the deactivation. Check again tomorrow. The DT database takes at least 24h to adjust. Do you think that if any of us do that it would be allowed?? But I know that if I put this on the forums the thread will be deleted Yes, threads about rejections are not allowed on the DT forum. But, having had a look, it's quite interesting to see he has a very high view count for being so short online. I always wondered if there are rating clubs at work at the assignment. Well if that's the case, ahum, vote for ME.

Seems a load of threads about tax on fotolia's forum have now been deleted, without explanation, and still no formal announcement about what is going on. I made my very first post on that forum in many years. I guess that one has been deleted too, but I don't even bother to look. I give them a while to sort it out.

I dont believe a word of this BS diagram It's a pure reflection of amplified statistical noise since his volume is too low. That's the reason I don't have a blog: I have nothing to say since my volume is too low.

The people that made StockXpert are currently working on a new site. I'm surprised at this, I would have thought that after selling the company, they would have had to sign a no-compete clause for a period of time. If it's true, I will be happy though. StockXpert always did ok for me. (Off-topic) As far as I understood, it's the developers and perhaps some reviewers. They were just employees near the end (as I suspect) and Getty fired them. A non-compete clause can't be forced when you are fired. That's why in some corporations, part of the staff (e.g. sales) is obsolete but kept anyways to keep them from competing, or more clearly said, to keep their mouth shut. Probably Getty has a clause like that when they hire, but the old StockXpert techies weren't hired by Getty. This is all speculation. Wait and see.

I saw a documentary about producers using the 5D MarkII as video camera. They fave the 5D MarkII because of the sensor made for 21mpx but only using 2 (1080P) when recording videos. The output video quality is excellent. They also use it because it's way more small and lighter than the professional video cameras. I tried some video on my 5DII but the problem is focus-tracking. The 5DII is still a hybrid, and we can expect more on video in a couple of years. The tracking seems to be solved well (in this video) by the 1DIV. Jonathan Ross put up some links to suspending equipment, which I saved, but I think you can only get the 3K$ investment for it back by News and Events, not by stock video.

which site would this be? ah, ...alas.. that is the question !!! First of all this thread has been derailed into free images, and secondly the right site doesn't exist yet. I'm fine with iStock, but SS makes me many times more. And DT makes me more too. When I wake up in the morning and I look into the mirror (with a blur of 10px) I can at least say that I'm poor (missing all those exclusive perks), but I'm free.

because, people who are as Aristotle once call " slaves to their desire" do not have a tight budget Isn't the same true for banks or large media corporations? The guy that had his jar shot on the TIME cover sold if for 28$ on SS. Aren't banks slaves to their desires? At least the porn industry didn't cost me an arm and a leg, as the banking industry did. I beg to differ as who is the most dirty industry here.

I had a quick look in the portfolio of the OP "modellocate", and he has great erotic and tasteful conceptual shots. In fact, it's a great photographer, imho. What I saw is very usable in microstock, but he is already on the main sites.
Models that agree to that kind of work shouldn't complain they are used on erotic sites. There is a (huge) market for this kind of content, and they fulfill a market need. They can't expect to be featured on a church site, don't they?

so, for now, i am still fully active with StockXpert (hoping for the latter to happen), but opting out on both IS and StockXpert. does it make sense? The people that made StockXpert are currently working on a new site. Hopefully, they will have learned from their (mainly financial) mistakes, since technically, StockXpert was very sound. Wait and see what their pricing policy will be.

Let's go if I can put this on: Just want to know: what's better, a system based on number of sales on ecah image and level based on images, like DT or a system based on number of sales from the photographer(white, bronze, silver, etc), like fotolia? The DT system of course, since it's also better for the buyer. The level system is a Darwinian system that makes the most salable images rise to the top by the only criterion that matters: sales. Agencies don"t sell contributors but images. A high volume contributor can upload crap images once in a while, and an occasional one can upload a flame.

So they don't deduct 30% of ALL your sales !! I think that's why ! The US IRS can't do that anyways. The US has no ground taxing a non-US alien in his own country for what another non-US alien in his own country buys. The only thing they can do is tax the agency itself on its profits, if it resides in the US. So filling in that form without ITIN number was totally useless if Fotolia doesn't go the SS, BigStock or Veer way. This might be the sore point. FT probably has been audited by the IRS and it turned out they didn't declare their profits, or not enough of them. As a consequence, they now have a cash flow problem since their cost/income tables don't hold any more. What they do is just throw the burden of their taxes on the contributor to keep their financial structure healthy.

US tax authorities seem to live in the medieval ages. In any other country I know about, you register for tax once, and that even goes for some third world countries. Yes but most countries became independent out of some heroic fight for freedom or whatever. The US at the contrary became independent over a tax issue. No taxation without representation, they said, and now they are doing it themselves.

Perhaps we should just get all US buyers to use the other sites and the problem is solved The problem would be totally solved if not only the US buyers used other sites.

Looking for the best place to sell nude, not whether or not to sell nudes. Not microstock, since what product or service could nudes promote? Probably RM is much better for this kind of content.

I didn't fill out the online W-8 BEN form from their tax center yet, and that's probably the reason why all of my sales are getting deducted from. I'm figuring if I filled it out (without the ITIN) only U.S. sales would be affected. No. I filled the form out without an ITIN number too. It was accepted but in the acceptance email it was clearly stated that without ITIN number, the tax would be applied.

Dec 09 (left) compared to last Nov 09 (right). Total earnings of Dec 09 = 69% of Nov 09.
