The vast majority of investors are like Gazelles at a waterhole - the slightest whiff of anything on the wind and they pee themselves and scatter. Look at the long money not the pee and run crowd.

Sissy push-ups should do the trick. Hands leaning on a wall, feet just under a meter away from the wall to put you at an angle and stand on on tip-toe. Keep your back straight, head up and execute between 500 and 750 disciplined push-ups...spread the total across the day in sets of 50 or a 100
This works every big muscle set except your quadriceps and lower abs - sort those out with sissy squats ie without a barbell

Having occasionally dabbled in the antiques business it doesn't surprise me in the least. The jaded auctioneer's answer to the eternal question - "how much is this chipped old plate worth?" is always "as much as the highest bidder is prepared to pay for it".

For me the fact that they are looking deadpan at the camera elevates these above the snapshots they would be if they were flashing their choppers.
It may be an "art" thing but I can't recall much smiling in work by the likes of Nan Goldin, Mary Ellen Mark, Alec Soth, Rineke Dijkstra etc.....and personally, I like it that way.

I'm still seeing annual growth but only in small increments - nothing like SS or FT.
DT has always felt like some sort of photo club that happens to sell pictures and has long been outmaneuvered by the rest of the top 4. Even the name, Dreamstime is pony. Or it could be that I have, on average, between 800 and 1,200 fewer files uploaded there thanks to their rotten "similars" policy.

In some retail circles they call it "shaking the snow globe" - rotating the stock so that everything has a chance of being monetized. Suppliers generally insist on it and will pay a premium to get it done - we as suppliers don't have that influence.
Some lose out. Some win. And it will never stop happening. In general though, customers will keep buying what they like which is why there are other factors, usually a superior or very similar product appearing on the shelves in droves, when best sellers sales start to decline. So, you keep inventing new and different product or you wait patiently until the snow globe gets a shake.

Both left and right centers of my brain have been seriously compromised over a long period by scotch - so I have no idea what you're all babbling on about.
Latest theory over at good old SS is that buyers of any import actually bother to go and see if your wonderful work of art is cheaper somewhere else. Like the fools who burn petrol driving around to find an outlet with the lowest price per gallon. I'm sure someone can dig up some examples but really, this is fiddling around trying to source the reason for your declining sales when (in a many cases - not all I must add) the answer is much closer to home.

That would mean that Getty would have to deal directly with a) an active contributor community and b) small and medium customers. They showed enough disdain for both of these groups in the past, so I believe it is unlikely they want to take over those tasks anytime soon. Getty prefers to make business with businesses (corporate media and advertising agencies as customers, other agencies and image factories as producers). They never showed any understanding of this "crowd thing".
Unwashed peasants is the term they use I believe.

Like the great 10k conspiracy theory - once you go through 10k earnings watch out buddy, your sales will flatten out or drop. I even admit to believing it enough to voice my concerns here on MSG.
....Never again - the theory turned out to be a heap of manure.

Over at SS one of the almost daily contributors to the "Gloom" thread has now declared November as a BME.
MAKE UP YOUR MINDS!!

Board Meeting 2006:
Getty: "We are Getty. Lower your shields and surrender your servers. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."
Istock: Yay! This means we can finally kick some Shutterstock ass

I'm thinking I can handle any tax changes coming out of this, either by claiming them back internally or being covered by existing treaties (England) to pay zero at source.
What makes my blood really boil is the fact their bean counter toadies have finally figured out a way to hang on to their cash flow for as long as possible - by delaying payment to me for as long as possible.
No different from SS they always payout once per month.
On the 7th !!!!
They say by the 15th, do they always pay out on the 7th?
On average between the 5th and 7th. The point being that worked because I could expect two/three payments a month at IS to top up the coffers but now i'll have to adjust to one and wait a lot longer for it. Never mind, I've got more important things to worry about - like feeding the cat.

In some hands the top five cameras for stock perform the same as the bottom five cameras for stock.
The question should be - what do I want to photograph and how can I get there without blowing a load of cash, only to find out I'm crap and I can't make any money out of it.
Entry level canon, nikon DSLRs for cheapness with reliability and quality to begin with and if you discover what to photograph at the same time as how to photograph it you'll make more than enough money to upgrade when you are ready.
FWIW - A good chunk of my top earning images were knocked out with a canon 1000D and 50mm 1.8

Clearly there are people who will be unhappy, frustrated and bigoted little individuals wherever they live.
Anyway, you can live practically anywhere if you live within your means, use a bit of common sense and only have yourself to worry about. Those with families or significant others, much less so.

I keep changing my mind. One day I want to move to Sicily and be mates with Inspector Montalbano, the next I'll have dreams of moving back to London and living like David Hemmings in "Blow Up".
The reality (if baby has her way) is likely to be some seedy English seaside town - when I'm too old to fight off the seagulls dive bombing my fish and chips.

Canon and Iphone - but I'm looking hard at premium compacts or mirrorless for editorial and documentary work.

Real time reporting is at the bottom of their To Do List - but I'll happily give IS credit for punching out the PP sales early in the month again.....Crapness - mine have stalled.

I see the virtues of both Stocksy and Offset and have made it a goal to get into one of them in 2015
It should be easy enough to get hold of some bearded hipsters and have them stand around looking at mud and trees....Flippancy aside, I see a lot of work that crosses over into reportage and "fine art"* - very reminiscent of work by Justine Kurland, Alec Soth et al and a long way removed from microstock. I like it.
* I put this in quotation because I've never fully understood just what it constitutes and I dislike labels as a rule

I'm in for the testing. I know precious little about SEO - except whenever I update my social media links I get pestered by twits with sun tans and far too many teeth flogging their guaranteed SEO strategies.
I do hope this isn't all IS have got in the current customer acquisition arsenal. It strikes me as hopeful at best - the marketing equivalent of putting out a mince pie and a noggin of brandy for Santa in the hope he actually exists*
* apologies to any readers who thought otherwise

My experiences are:
1. Fotolia: around 24 hours 2. Bigstock: around 24 hours 3. Shutterstock: around 48 hours 4. Alamy: around 4 days 5. 123RF: around 5 days 6. Dreamstime: around 14 days (!) 7. Istock: around 16 days (!)
More or less identical to my experience....of course once IS has finally approved your files they somehow manage to mislay them. http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=362915&page=1
