I said goodbye to StockXpert on Sunday... no regrets at all... And if you take the time to read the fine print of their EULA you will find loopholes they can use to circumvent the opt out thing... It is beginning to be discussed at yahoo groups.  So, they think they are smarter, but the crowd has a brighter mind!

Could you elaborate?
Or give links to these discussions?

Thanks!

Looks to me that StockXpert have dug themselves a mighty big hole here and have a no-win situation on their hands.

If they offer an opt-out then anyone with half a brain will do so __ so they won't have much of a library left to offer at Photos.com anyway.

If they don't offer an opt-out then they won't actually have a library worth offering to anyone at all.

There could be a mid solution, if they offer an opt-out/in on a per photo base.

I'm not a great photographer, but, like everybody here, I can tell that my *worst* photos are better than most of Photos.com's.

So on a per photo base, I would opt-in with *less* quality, and it would still improve Photos.com collection and in the same time give some more valu to my older photos.

I guess we should have asked aobut the JI/Unlimited site yesterday, but I hadn't really thought through what the differences between their terms and the Photos.com ones actually meant given their plans to add StockXpert content to the mix.

Seems that you're not alone; StockXpert's people did not thought of it either...

I know that the 250 dl per day will not apply with StockXpert photos (Jo Ann mentionned 750 / month (BTW, thanks Jo Ann you represent us very well!)) but I could not resist to this simple math:

StockXpert has 1700000 photos in his database.  Photos.com sells subscription at a rate of 449.95$/year for 250 dl/day.  Which is 250x365=91250 photos.

So one would be able to buy the WHOLE collection of StockXpert with 19 accounts (19x91250=1733750) or 8549$...

Scary, isn't it?

(I know that my numbers are not the ones StockXpert will use, but whatever numbers you use, it is still scary!)

It happened to me couple of months ago.  Someone here (sorry I don't remember who  ;) ) told me to delete my cookies and my temporary internet files.  It worked!

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Looking for a good backpack
« on: June 24, 2008, 12:52 »
I have a Tamrac Adventure 9 and I really enjoy it.

pros:
- enough room to carry my Canon 40D, a 70-200, 17-70, 100 and my flash in the bottom part
- Two side pockets for water
- There is a pocket for a laptop but I use it to carry white sheets of paper and a grey card
- The upper part has enough room for a (small) lunch, sweater, rain jacket, and so on
- Straps are comfortable and suitable for that (heavy) load
- Easy access of the camera
- Rain tight (altough I didn't test it)
- Great price (+/- 100$ in Canada)

Cons:
- No extra straps outside for accessories
- No outside pockets
- No straps for tripods

Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend it!

It seems we will have to rename this site at some point to "macrostockgroup".   ;D

Regards,
Adelaide

No need for that since Alamy is going down to microstock!  :D

We should try to track this guy because in a month or two (at least that's what he thinks) we'll see a new ms site going online...

Well done, Leaf; very easy to use

iStockPhoto.com / Re: How do I use FTP at IStock ?
« on: June 07, 2008, 18:18 »
The utility is called DeepMeta, it seems to streamline the process to me.

In fact it does and it allows you to choose categories from a list within the software before the upload process.  Much much more visual and easy to use than the iStock way.

Do you know if there is a way to de-activate your photos on every other site but staying a member?  Is it ok with exclusive TOS of iStock?

That way if for any reason exclusivity with iStock doesn't work, we can reactivate our files without going trough the whole process of getting accepted and re-uploading the files.

May be that they will officialize the placement in searches that favour exclusive contributors...

More and more exclusives are showing in the first 2 or 3 pages, something like 9 out of 10...  which does not reflects excl./non-excl. ratio.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not exclusive but I understand that IS makes moves to grab exclusivity.  It's their business and so far, it represents 45% of my microstock revenues.  So I recognize that they know how to handle it...

They should be honest and tell us the truth... So may be that's what they will announce (or some sort of).

And personally, it will be another step to exclusivity...

Unless you plan to use it with a full size sensor camera, I would go for the 100mm 2.8.  I bought one couple of weeks ago and I found it perfect on my 40D.  I think that the 180 with a crop factor of 1.6 would be too much...

Optical quality is perfect and I really enjoy it.

« on: May 16, 2008, 07:14 »
Yes they notify you by email (I had one couple of weeks ago) but in this case, that's 3 sales the same day and the cash balance doesn't fit...

So I, m confused...

iStockPhoto.com / Sales disappeared?!!!
« on: May 16, 2008, 07:03 »
Something bizarre happened to my account at iStock last night...  I had 3 sales yesterday and this morning, they're not there anymore...

The 3 sales were 0.22, 0.75 and 0.75 $ and today my account is 1$ less than yesterday, and no sales show for yesterday  ???

Maybe I should go back to bed and check later...

One more remark, I think it's safe to send me an email telling me that my pw has been changed, but not so secure to write my new pw in clear in the message.

But I don't expect any more changes in your system before monday!
