the power of depositphotos somehow seems to be way overstated here on msg.
I believe you're wrong about that. Assuming everyone has been honest about their results, it just suggests that DP performs differently for different groups of submitters. The poll tracks with my own experience, except that lately DP has outperformed DT. I attribute that to DT's upload limits. Your mileage may differ.
I'd agree with that. Fotolia for some is down in 7th place while for others it's in first place. The results on the right are a 3 month average but if you look at the graph http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?page=PollResults which shows each month's raw data, DepositPhotos is really on the rise.

Compared to July 2012, my Aug 2012 was: down 5% Compared to Aug 2011, my Aug 2012 was: up 12%
So I'm happy year over year, but very concerned about the current trend. August should have been up over July by a good amount, rather than down.
Very, very worried about Sept. Bad things going on behind the scenes that may not deliver the typical Sept boost that I would normally expect.
Feels like I've hit "the wall," but it's an artificial one the big micros have put before me. I've diversified my subject matter and styles, and implemented workflow improvements that increased my output. I'm doing everything right. It's not me, it's them.
SS, FT and DT all changed their best match, severely cutting my downloads. IS lets in so few of my shots that I decided to stop uploading there. And DT implemented its ridiculous similars policy that cut my uploads there by 95%. Had the big 4 kept doing what they've done the past several years, I'm convinced my growth would be continuing at the same rate as prior years.
Fortunately I've found a new endeavor to devote my energies toward... I'm just as excited about that as I was about microstock several years ago... that's where my passion will be moving forward. I think my microstock efforts now will be just "going through the motions" to keep momentum going while my heart is somewhere else. You probably won't see me posting here much anymore... I'll be frequenting a forum focused on the other endeavor.
... so do tell. What's you're new endeavor?

I also have alphabetical keywords. I do them in a spreadsheet and "sort" them alphabetically during the process to easily show up duplicates for deletion.
Or you could just paste them into the Microstock keyword tool http://microstockgroup.com/tools/keywordcompare.html and it will delete duplicates automatically

Are the speed dials coming back?
Yeah, I think I'll bring them back - at least in some form
Yes, I'd love some way to know if some one has a BIG or tiny port. In fact, I respect the fact that many people want to hide their identity, so if Leaf could find a way to show us three facts about a poster without giving away the identity, that would be great : (1) Size of port, (2) Microstocker since 20.., and (3) Photo/Vector/Footage/Sound. This I find much more interesting than the number of posts he/she made. Of course, a link to a portfolio would be even better, but many of us don't like that. (by the way Leaf, I put my Shutterstock login name in my profile, but the SS icon does not seem to show up under my posts?)
I agree with everything here, I'll see what I can do to make it work. You need to put in your Shutterstock User ID#, not your profile name.

The new layout looks better in general, except there's a lot of wasted space on top of page. Are you planning to put something in there?
I should probably move the log in option to the top right. There is a minimize button on the top right button it isn't minimized by default and lots of people probably miss it. I agree that space up there is poorly used... at least when it's not minimized

Does anyone know what happens with the money we have earned on Snapixel? I was close to a payout, but not quite there I wrote them a little over a week ago, but no reply.
I haven't heard anything but I wouldn't get my hopes up - hopefully they're able to make payouts

How do we place vote again? When I hit "more poll results" I go straight to the Forum page with all categories displayed.
Edit: okay, there it is on the top under polls. I could vote, but the first page is blank (I.E)
There must be an IE bug I have to work out :S
I have the same problem in Chrome
ok thanks, I'll try to figure out a fix on monday

.. just a follow up here. There was a problem with the voting system, it wasn't saving your voted. It's fixed now, but if you go to the voting page to vote and you are still able to vote (even if you've voted already this month), that means your vote wasn't counted. It would be great if you could try again.

Here are my numbers for august 2012 Shutterstock was a few dollars less than last month which was surprising and they they contributed 2% less to my overall income. Dreamstime and Fotolia are each up a percent. Really, no changes overall. My income was up 6% over last month which is pretty insignificant considering august is generally a better earning month compared to July. Oh yeah, and the polls (or more notably the graphs) are working again. You can find it on the top menu under Polls. Here is a link to cast this months vote http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?page=microstockmonthlysurvey

Is mobile photography, and using it for stock, as huge as it sounds?
My iPhone shots at Getty sell nicely. I know there are some who absolutely refuse to acknowledge that a mobile phone's camera could possibly produce a quality image, but they're dead wrong. Just like any other tool, not every photo is a keeper and just like every other photo you can keep it raw or filter . out of it. Which aesthetic you prefer doesn't matter and one isn't more valid than the other. But the fact is, there's a market for these images and it would be silly to not take advantage of it. Personally, I think much of the backlash against this type of photo is the years of "over filtered" rejections and being resentful of a new standard. Times change, people - if you've been doing this for any amount of time that's one lesson you should have already learned.
I enjoy the challenge of taking pictures with my phone and like that it is starting to be accepted as a valid 'art form'. If the image is good enough, then it's good enough depsite the camera it was taken with. But on the flip side, I find it odd that now instead of an image being required to be taken on an SLR it's beint requiredto be shot on a smart phone. I don't think either camp is correct.

Ohhh... ^^^ does that mean we have to redo a lot of stuff?
The ignores and ignored by also are gone. Is it like beginning again all over again?
Yeah - tell me about it.

When I go into 'unread posts' I really would like a way of deleting the threads that don't interest me leaving just the ones that I want to read so that I can quickly go down and read the ones that I want to. At the moment I have to open each post to get rid of it or delete them all.
This one might be a bit tougher to implement. I see there is a mod for it but have heard that it slows down the forum a lot. I tried to do a test install of the mod just to see and I couldn't get it to work quite right. I've put it on pause for a bit but I agree it would be a welcomed feature.

In the old system, some of us had links to our portfolios ... ie; SS, iS, DT
That might be a better way to show who has no objection to sharing ports rather than have to post links within a thread.
Will that feature return?
Yeah, that feature is already in place. Just go to Profile > Forum Profile

Your original reply was a bit different, a bit more insulting, and for some reason my quote of your reply got deleted and you changed your post. Very strange. Anyoo, I can assure you I am not jealous, I do have enough knowledge but what you see is not what you get, and you are anoymous as well.
That's because the original post was removed (moderated) and while the post was being moderated you replied so your reply was removed as well.

As I'm sure you've noticed and perhaps have read that the forum was updated. Along with that came some changes and lots of little things that were added the past have been lost and a few layout tweeks are gone. If there are things you miss or something that doesn't quite look good on your computer, this is the thread to voice your request / complaint and I'll try and fix / get working what I can. I don't promise to implement everything, but if it makes sense I'm happy to try.

Little glitch I've noticed. When I write a post and then spell-check it before sending ... the post simply disappears after I have hit the Post button. If I post the message without spell-checking it then I do not have this problem. I'm on Win7 and IE8.
Edited to add __ just tried spell-checking this message before sending (having copied it first) and the problem did not occur. It did happen with 2 earlier messages though.
strange. I'll try spell checking a bit in the next few days and see if I can recreate the problem. I usually just trust firefox to spellcheck for me as I type and never use the button.
