I've sent mail as well.

BTW, is there a way to see "rejected" or something files?

FTP server is having issues right now.

Still can't get anything up there.  Just me?

It's fortunate that the family are being very reasonable about it. I don't think the usage is allowed because it's clearly "sensitive", so it's the end-user's fault for violating the license.

I don't agree it's sensitive use.  First off, the ad displays the disclaimer the people are models.  Secondly, it is a political ad.  All political ads may be "sensitive" in that someone doesn't agree with them.

The IS sensitive use clause says:
"use the Content in a fashion that is considered by iStock (acting reasonably) as or under applicable law is considered pornographic, obscene, immoral, infringing, defamatory or libelous in nature, or that would be reasonably likely to bring any person or property reflected in the Content into disrepute;"

Well, it may fall under defamation, although it isn't really claiming those people expressed that opinion. And even if it did, would that really be defamatory? Does it damage their reputation somehow? But a political ad doesn't really fall under any of the normal "sensitive use" type areas, imo...

More relevant might be:
"If any Content featuring a model or property is used in connection with a subject that would be unflattering or unduly controversial to a reasonable person, you must accompany each such use with a statement adjacent to the Content that indicates that: (i) the Content is being used for illustrative purposes only; and (ii) any person depicted in the Content, if any, is a model,"

Since it is "controversial", and the statement is displayed, they're within the license, imo.

Ah yes.  I didn't go there because I didn't want to change any settings.

Hi Lee,

When connecting via FTP I can see files I've uploaded recently in _processing, but they're all 0 bytes in size.  Is that ok?  I don't see any of these in my portfolio, and some have been there over a month... though admittedly I've lost track of what the expected turnaround times are these days.

I see this too.

I also seem to have lost the links to portfolio, sales, etc.  All I have is "settings" under my avatar.

I've seen threads where multiple model shoots were mentioned as no longer being financially viable. This seems likely, but I see they are amongst the best selling on a few agencies.

I worked out I need to sell about 200 images just to break even on a shoot with one model (Using SS 0.25 per image as an average), so a "five people around table" type shoot would require about 1,000 sales from one shoot.

How many of you still do shoots with multiple models and do your returns justify it? (TFP aside).

$250 from 1,000 sales would not be at all worth my time for a shoot like that, which is why I don't put those on the micros any longer.  Cost for models for me for something like that would be around $4-500 to start.

There's no reason for any one to run off.  Post what you think, don't worry too much about what others say in response and don't be too much of a jerk :)

Sean; I'll just give up now then shall I?  Obviously none of the thousands photos I have taken in wild remote locations on various Land Rover expeditions are original or remotely as good as what's already online!  Thanks for the encouragement ???

Well, the title of the thread was "realistic expectations", not "happy thoughts and snowflake dreams".  The truth is that hard drive images not specifically shot for stock sales don't sell particularly well.  Your images here are ok for tourist travel images, but like mentioned, there are people who live everywhere you go that are better at capturing the essence of that area then you are.  http://www.shutterstock.com/gallery-ucapturelightuk.html

There are factories in Russia and China that churn out nothing but stuff on white.  You're one guy aiming for 5 images a week.

It's just that this plan is a little late for the game.

PS, plus your keywording needs help - words in bold are questionable:

adventure, amundsen, arctic, atlantic, cape, centre, coast, continent, europe, european, explorer, monument, nature, nordic, north, northern, norway, norwegian, ocean, planet, point, polar, roald, scandinavia, scenic, sculpture, statue, summer, sun, symbolic, tourism, tourist, travel, view

What I am hoping for is a moderate regular income, dribbling each month, into the future i.e. a bit of a retirement pension of sorts.

I am trying to process and upload 5 - 10 images per day until my HDDs are exhausted and then I shall start shooting some specific stock shots (white background etc.), in my small studio, as regularly as I can.

Honestly, "stuff on my hard drive" and "white background" things isn't going to work out very well these days.  Especially "travel" as people have already travelled there or live there, and have the time and equipment to do it much better already.

I went to a social media networking get together last night.  I had seen on their facebook timeline that a few months ago, there was a presentation on Canva.  Well, the woman who did the presentation could have been a brand ambassador.  She could not stop gushing about how she loved Canva, and how she uses it everyday, and it makes design tools and images available to everyone, without the hassle and cost of a subscription or credits.... It was good to see that kind of enthusiasm.

What's with the russian language in here?

I hate the Pond interface.  The bottom lightbox keeps popping up.  Movie collections pop up when I move over things, I can't find a way to just see everything.  I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.

From what I could see, though, I thought your collection was kind of scattershot.  Here's some fire, there's some ducks, here's soccer practice, etc.  There doesn't seem to be an in depth look at any of them.  No story.  The style is no lighting - just run and gun.  Maybe I'm not seeing it all right, though.

Response was that the inclusion of digital templates in the image was an error.

You probably won't want to hear that image creators aren't that excited about 3d objects being used to create an infinite amount of customized images that could supplant their sales.

Looks neat though.  Good idea for buyers.

"The images you publish are exclusive to PixelSquid for 4 years."  That's kind of rough for contributors on an unknown platform.

How do you turn off the feature in P5?

You don't have to actually turn anything off, just don't use any of the suggested keywords if you don't want to.

http://help.pond5.com/hc/en-us/articles/204090849-Auto-Tagging

I don't want to have to "manually" remove anything.  That's more work for me.

The article says "Disabling the Automatically Suggested Keywords on the My Preferences page." - Well, why didn't someone just say that?

Oh, I only make 1-2 a month, maybe, but I don't want a buyer coming back one day, and me going "what are you talking about"....
