Or that they had a lightbox of images that they want to buy and came back and downloaded them from there.

Similar results here.  It seems like somebody turned the subs off today and turned on the larger sized credit sales.  I hope it lasts.

It didn't last, it's back to subs and small sized dls. :(

Well I prefer this than that other one in which whatever you searched, you'd get only photos showing  crowns  ;)

Yes that's exactly what it means

Could that mean that you do not have to pay to download your own images?

He's still down as rubis on the fotolia ranking list and as far as I know we were all able to keep our current ranks.

For Saphire contributors on FT I Just went down 5% in commission. From 45 to 40. That will hurt my income for sure. No doubt. I am thinking about this today and I will comment it more in details when I have receive reply from Oleg.

Yuri, did they take away your Rubis status?  I noticed they made changes to ranking almost immediately after you reached Rubis.

Cheers to that.

I'm not doing microstock to be fawned over, 'valued' and 'appreciated'. I'm doing it for the money. Forget all the niceties __ just stick it in my hand guv'nor.

« on: February 19, 2009, 09:21 »
I get what you are saying but still to ME all of that is not important compared to good sales.

I put my 3  best earners because in overall satisfaction the earnings are what count the most to me.  If it was a case of which site do I like the most then DT would be up at the top but although I think they are the fairest site they just don't make me as much money as the other 3.

Exactly my thoughts too.

I think for many, a big factor weighing in their favor is the amount of work required compared to the return. At SS uploading a batch is quick and painless - other sites not so. The other factor is consistency - there are no huge swings in best match results, and when announcements are made, it usually results in an increase in revenue for contributors, not some new restriction or a cut in commission.

Same here. I was so dissapointed with IS the last couple of years but this last month has been almost like the old days.  I really hope that the new best match doesn't change it too much but just gives a little more emphasis on new files.

I am having an amazing month on iStock and this is the first time I have said that for at least two years. Whatever they have done to the Best Match search (weight it towards older files with high downloads I think), please don't change it!

In fact, this month is so good I've thought for the first time about the possibility of going exclusive. It's not going to happen but I did think about it for a microsecond. Haha, that's why it's called microstock!

I am selling more credit sales than usual on DT and a lot of them are high level sales
My RPD this month is right up at 1.88$

.
I'm for the conspiracy theory. I sold more subs than usual at DT also LOL

I'm not seeing any red 'x' so it may be a problem your end.   The ignore button is used if a poster annoys you then by pressing the  button you will no longer see their posts.

That's exactly the way it should be.   What is the point of cluttering up their searches with inferior images.

Collectively these companies have a sort of jaded rich kid personality - they already have everything they actually need, but they want more, but not the same stuff,  or maybe the same but better,  or maybe something completely different.  I'm sure the people running these companies aren't really like that, but that's how it seems from the outside.

Ssuper seems to be trying to stir things up. He's only made 3 posts and one of his others is

"Fotolia, my friends, is for sale...That means your images, and revenue, are being negotiated, as we speak. or as you read this..."

The other post of his upset people before he edited it.

Leaf I think you should consider banning this troll.

Because we are still making a lot of money there and like the company a lot.   What internal conflicts, the site seems to run a lot better than most? I haven't heard of a lot people quitting so you should give detalils not just come in and make statements like that.

A lot of people ar quitting Dreastime..did you know that ? apparently the company has to deal with many internal conflicts..why do you still submitt ?

That's exactly what I was thinking. Surlely by putting it on line you are making it available for people to listen to without buying it in the same way that HeroTurko is providing our images without paying.  I don't  know for sure if that is legal or not but I'd have thought that youtube are taking that action for a valid reason.

I tried the suggested steps, using the "fair use" justification.

In that case HeroTurko could claim "fair use" too. Pardon my French, but I don't see much difference between putting uncopyrighted music or uncopyrighted images online.  :P

Dreamstime.com / Re: Rights management area
« on: February 18, 2009, 01:55 »
Same here everything except sell the rights on non exclusive images.

It won't help acceptance but I will help earnings, so check all by any means.

Sell the rights (SR-EL) is not, in my opinion, this simple and straight forward. Actually I believe you usually should tick this check box only for DT exclusive images because if you are submitting them to all the other agencies, it may take a while to get them removed from those and hence you are in risk of violating the contract for the SR-EL. Note the last sentence. You have only 72 hours...

From DT:

Sell the Rights (SR-EL):
This license represents a full ownership of the downloaded image. The buyer can use it exclusively (exclusivity applies from the moment that the file was downloaded using this license), and include it in any type of design with just a few restrictions: sensitive subjects may still apply and the buyer may not claim that the file was created by him nor resell it as a photo.
The agency will disable the image immediately after the buyer acquired this license. The photographer is required to disable the file permanently from all other places where he may sell it, as soon as possible after the sale occured, but no longer than 72 hours...

Newbie Discussion / Re: Categories - Is there a better way?
« on: February 14, 2009, 12:39 »
Thanks for that it will save me a lot of time.  I hate the catagories especially as I don't even think that they are particularly useful.
.

the only thing that speeds up categorizing is knowing each site's categories well.  You need to be able to figure out where it goes and what to do with it quickly and for a lot of sites you can also "type" the category like on Dreamstime if you want people>Action you just click the category button then P and it takes you to People> then you're only one click from "Action"  Same with People>Children.  I think if you click the category then close it, click P like 4 times and it's People>Children ... if that makes sense.

Bigstock is the same way.  You can type, tab, type, tab, type, tab, type, tab  but only if you know the categories.  It's quicker for me to categorize a person playing sports at BigStock by typing P tab W tab IN tab SP then it is to search the menus.

I can assure you that there are plenty of us making 'cool amounts of money' by the very fact that we aren't exclusive to IS, because we are making good money from IS along with several other agencies.  To me the only reason that I would ever go exclusive to any one agency is because I haven't got the time to upload to multiple sites and I can't see that ever happening.   People often say that the time spent uploading to multiple sites is time that could be used to take more photos but in my case the time of day that I do my uploading would never be used to take photos.

If any part of your photos are tack sharp and well exposed there is certainly no need to fear the inspection process at istockphoto.
It's your choice where you showcase your work but i would certainly want to be involved with istockphoto looking outwards rather than being on the outside looking in at contributors making cool amounts of money from their work!

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Extended Licence Sales
« on: February 11, 2009, 06:03 »
I'm finding the opposite of DT lately and selling lots of high level credit sales and few subs..  My RPD there is 1.85$ this month which is my highest ever.  On the other hand StockXpert is nearly all subs and small sales lately.

I get less of them on istock than SS or FT, perhaps they don't make it as obvious when one is required?  Price can't be anything to do with it because some sell for more on FT.

Correct. I got a couple of extended ones this month on SS and On Demands almost daily (Feb 09). At the contrary, my trend on DT was increasing subscription. I don't know if this trend is true for everybody but this makes SS suddenly by far my most profitable site, despite the subscription. You might be right, SS communicating and enforcing its license policy much better.

It depends where you sell them.  FT give me over 80$ per EL and SS give me 28$.  The other sites vary in price like IS.

Almost exactly what happened to me. I don't even go watch my stats there anymore often than before. Ohh what a surprise I got 7 downloads today 3 XXL 3 XL and 1 photos.com L size that will probably be upsized to avoid paying the big prices. It's becoming a pain in the xxx to look at 7 potential 5$ downloads... and one 50$

oi vonkara, i read your earlier comment you said you don't like StockXpert anymore. maybe you should say that more, and get  surprise downloads like today ;D

Seems to be that way in general at the moment.  i've never known the SS forums to be so bad.  I don't know if the weather and financial situation is causing people to be more bad
mooded than usual

Ive only been on this site a couple of weeks and yet all ive witnessed so far is constant arguing in all the forums I dont get it

I would definitely upload it.  I have a much worse one of chairs, probably one of the worst images in my portfolio and it has sold a few times so I think that this one could to quite well.   I like the composition of it.
