Here are the numbers from October 2019.
Only clips priced $79 and above (since that's where BB starts).
P5 - 1,388,862 new clips (excluding BB). BB - 457,915 new clips.
P5 was 68.9% better for 3 sales and up. 52% better for 1 sale and up.
Considering the 15% BB fee:
3+ sales: P5 (without BB) was 98.7% better. 1 sale and up: P5 (without BB) was 78.8% better.
---
Those are the numbers based on a little more than 1.8 million clips uploaded since October 2019 with a MINIMUM price of $79.
98.7% can be quite a bit of money.
---
The important thing here was to see whether being with BB was an advantage (on average) or not. They would have to beat P5 by a bit to be worth the 15%. Clearly, they don't.
Guess it comes back to the basics, make crazy good content, keyword and upload on your own. There is no magic shortcut Sent from my HD1901 using Tapatalk

What is the salegt:0 that you've mentioned
Sent from my HD1901 using Tapatalk
Pond5 gives you the sales numbers if you use a few advanced search methods.
If you write (EXACTLY, don't add or remove any spaces)
artist:blackboxguild salegt:0
Pond5 will show you all the clips from that artist with 1 sale or more.
If your name is izzikiorage on P5 -
artist:izzikiorage salegt:0
will show you all of your own clips with 1 sale or more.
"Salegt" stands for "Sale Greater Than".
So, salegt:99
will show you all the clips with 100 sales or more.
---
It's a very fun and educative way to see through the bull**** of many forum posters.
---
As soon as I see a forum member (usually at P5) with very strong opinions on how everything new is bad, and how they know how things should be done because they are "old industry professionals active since day one" I check their actual results. Since my own average is almost always MUCH better than theirs, I can continue my way of working with confidence.
This is amazing, is there a list of these advanced commands. BB seemed to push pretty hard on marketing. Thats usually a red flag since afterwards there seemed to be no one talking about it at all Sent from my HD1901 using Tapatalk

Is the 15% or so that they take for metadata and editing justified by the additional sales generated through them. Does the overall larger and more popular port they have help also?

At one time it seemed every youtuber was talking about it and now suddenly nothing. Did they all get super rich and move to a private island? How have the results been in general?

Where did you see the statement? I checked DM and ESP website and could not find the data.
Thanks.
ESP > Royalties, as usual. AFAIK, DM doesn't show your new figures automatically, you have to perform a sync to bring the new month's stats onboard.
Did not understand this. Isn't ESP the website from where we get the royalty reports? I assume DM is deepmeta. How is ESP > Royalty Sent from my HD1901 using Tapatalk

Thanks for starting this! I signed and shared. I encourage others to take 5 seconds and do the same, and also email SS at [email protected] to let them know your response.
It's fair to call out SS for massively reducing our pay and not allowing an opt out. P5 allows an opt out of Hyperstock, and other cheapo places we can opt out of by not joining at all. If this makes a sizable dent in my SS pay, I will stop uploading to SS and let them know why. It's their choice to do what they're going to do, my hope is that if enough good contributors stop uploading because of low pay then SS will see their content quality decline and buyers favoring Adobe. Ball is in Adobe's court now.
Makes sense that we all drop in an email, and possibly highlight this on twitter, Instagram and other social networks as well Sent from my HD1901 using Tapatalk

Again, is there a merit to starting something on change.org to atleast get the people not on these forums riled up?
An opt out would be nice, plus definitely a more detailed understanding of how this subscription will work for contributors. We currently assume we get 30% of price, it could be a fixed value like image subscriptions

Reiterating, is it worth raising noise over. We should definitely create a racket, possibly as a deterrent to this race to the bottom. Some asks
1. Contributors to be pre informed and consent/suggestions taken 2. A clear understanding to contributors on how this affects payouts, should be expect a fixed value on each video subscription sale similar to images 3. Can the prices be a little more realistic, it does not have to be a drop as steep as going from $164 today to $10 for 4k
Deterrent We stop uploading vidoes till they send out an official response and make these changes
Points of communication 1. change.org 2. twitter - SS management 2. Twitter - large buyers, suggest Adobe or Pond5 3. Instagram / Facebook 4. Maybe get large players like blackbox/influencers involved
I think the worst thing we could do is take this without raising hell. It just tells them that they can do this more often.

*, but isn't the 4k at 10$ a clip only if you make an annual commitment for a certain no of clips? Still means we get paid a pittance and the company pockets the unused part if the subscription.
Want to set up a change.org petition against this and politely hound the SS management on twitter/forums etc? Maybe they'll make this more fair to us

My guess is that it will also not pick up soon. Spends on content are among the least critical. So companies will also conserve spends on this for the time being

I would guess so since a lot of non essential advertising companies would have shut shop or moved to work from home.
One the flip side, my guess is that news houses would suddenly start picking corona realated stuff. Also hopefully smaller creators would use this time to create more content and hopefully buy some stuff

What i hear is that we have some chance of forming a union, a very limited chance of setting up an agency on our own. What other models have worked in the past for something like this.
For example what does the music or literature industry practice, can we get some ideas from that.
Sent from my HD1901 using Tapatalk
They have demand for specific artists, they have individual works that take very special people, to create. (not that many people here aren't special, or creative or true individual artists) But the main problem is, anyone with a camera can upload photos, and become a contributor.
You can go join the musicians union, I was a member because we couldn't work some places, unless we were members. I have all kinds of instruments, training and experience. That in no way guarantees I'll get hired or make money. You can swing a dead rat and hit a fantastic musician, start with guitar players, too many concert level piano players. No shortage, no demand higher than the supply, no money.
Stock photos union would be like trying to for a union for people who pick clover or watch birds and smell flowers. Our work has become common, easy to find and there's no power or control to force the agencies to pay us a far wage. I'll add again, there are some amazing and fantastic artists in stock photography. Creative people, smart, thinking, hard working. But plain and simple, there's far too much product and not enough buyers demanding the top work, for a top price.

The public doesn't care or support us and they wouldn't care if we were union or not.
No Power, nothing to withhold, no control over production or distribution = no union, no higher wages.
Website for sale in the Internet industry https://flippa.com/10404426-marketplace-design-and-style
Starting price $5,000 USD no bids, reserve not met.
GLstock is relisted
This is great stuff, so what could be the possibility of next steps 1. Awareness campaign to the public that photos and videos do cost money to make and hence are things to be paid for. 2. Push agencies not on the meritocracy and absolute value of earning bit but on the share of the price given to photographers. Its like saying there can always be a warren/bill gates/elon musk but that does not mean we make it less fair for others. 3. Upgrade skills, what can the photographer community do that is not easily replicable by the bloke with the phone? How do we stay relevant in this age? Sent from my HD1901 using Tapatalk
