LOL But we should have a separate one for the exclusives. Don't want them skewing the results unfairly.

I'm getting so paraniod about keywording badly and getting a refusal that I end up putting the bare minimum but wouldn't feel right going in and adding them afterwards so am probably losing out on sales.

I started uploading there about 9 months ago and have about 600 of my best images there. This month for the first time I should make 100$ on normal sales (currently at nearly 75$) althought Thanksgiving might ruin it if the customers are American. Last month I made more but had 2 ELS at about 20$ each.

I agree with everything you say. I rarely visit the site now as I find it so depressing. Just once a month to get a pay check. Getty/ IS, are enforcing their exclusivity program far too late in the day. This should have been done from the early start, upsetting all the non-exclusives now could render in a financial crisis. The poor guys in the Admin? well most of them are probably on the payroll, they dont want any of this! they wanna come, put in a days work and go home. They dont want to get stuck in internal or external politics rubbish such as BMs, non-exclusives, Getty etc, etc. Sure if you post a thread in their Forum, too close, too touchy, its closed down, although theyre pretty liberal I must say. Its time for IS to be honest. Either tell all the non-exclusives to flat out LEAVE or STAY. Non of this in between wheeling and dealing, its hurting their image, it stops serious contributors from uploading, its loosing credibillity. Just a go or stay, thats all.

So far this month I have made 3x more on FT than IS and 2X more on SS. I expected to reach diamond this summer but sales have been so bad this year that it seems almost impossible to get there now. I rarely get a refusal at any site as I'm picky about what I upload but IS always seem to find something in just about every batch to refuse. I'm so dissapointed in IS as it was my first site and always used to be my favourite.

I'm positive that the people in the photo would be able to recognize themselves and that is what counts.

I get about one or 2 a month the same as I did at every other price level, but one month I got 6 at 150$. I 100% reccomend raising them to the full price allowed as it seems to have no detrimental affect at all. Interesting philosophy on the EL prices. I have my older ones at 50 and have been setting my newer images at 60.
Hard to believe they would sell as many at 150 or 200. Although I believe leaf and fotografer.
Guess I am still buying into the volume over individual sales paradigm.
Yeah, well I see your point, but at $150, or $200 you only have to sell 1/3 or 1/4 as many EL to get the same amount. I am getting about 1/month now on fotolia, and it sure is a nice bonus to get. I think that the people buying the EL have considered all their options enough that once they decide on an image they want that image no matter what. Additionally they are often buying the image to make money off of it, to put it on a post card, puzzle, merchandise or something. If you are producing something to make $$ then $50, or $150 isn't much differance.
You should try changing your prices lisa.. if you don't get any sales you can always change them back in a few months. I have a feeling you won't want to change back though

I've been using the same releases for my family members for over 3 years now.

As far as I know Fotolia is the only site of the big 6 that tells you who the buyer is.

It's $ not sales. I am not sure whether it is $$ or sales count though, but I suppose it doesn't really matter either.

I seem to be getting them reviewed out of sequence at the moment . I had some reviewed yesterday while others that have been up nearly 3 days earlier are still waiting. is it customary that some images wait for inspection much much longer than other images with similar numbers? should I contact support? have they forgotten about them??
for instance, I have now some images pending that start with 771 and 773 and the queue for non-excl has long time ago progressed beyond that (two days ago), it is now 776 and 775?

I totally agree with Lisa. It seems to me that evertime DT 'pull' something the contributors end up better off. Seriously?! You guys would rather deal with StockXpert than DT??
Are we talking about the same StockXpert that put our images on photos.com and was giving away EL usage for .30 subscription price without even offering an opt out (until half their contributors threatened to pull their portfolios)? And is this the same StockXpert that failed to record or pay royalties on sales from photos.com for over three weeks (supposedly because their ONLY PROGRAMMER was on vacation!?), until (again) contributors raised hell and demanded payment?
Dreamstime has NEVER pulled anything underhanded with their contributors and has recorded sales and paid on time, every time, without hassle.
There is absolutely no comparison between the two sites. At least none that is favorable to StockXpert.

Not true. I rank between 60 and 70 on overall rank on Fotolia and dominate a lot of searches but at IS my images can barely be found in the searches. Same person same portfolio and completely different results Don't you guys understand? I guess not. it's about you not the sites and, what you upload.

It's getting quite difficult to get your first 10 approved. My advice would be to put your images up to the SS critique forum. There is a great bunch of people there willing to help you get through the approval process. First read this thread http://submit.shutterstock.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=49251Good luck

A mixture of new and dls/month with none or very little emphasis on exclusivity. Give the exclusive more money or whatever but I don't think that making exclusives first in the search is fair to independents or buyers who don't get to see a lot of very good images.

I only voted for FT and SS as they are way above the others. Next come DT IS and StockXpert all about equal so I didn't want to put a third.

When you change the settings only you will see it in that order. The buyers will still see it in the popular order or whichever method they choose. While on your "my images" page, click on the "square" symbol on top of the photos ID number. It will sort your photo in that order, which is not exactly by date but almost...

I set mine at the highest possible. I sell just as many at 150$ as I did at 10$.

A while ago they refused a whole batch of mine that had been approved everywhere else. As these images were technically ok I decided to put them up again without changing them and mixed in with other batches. Every single one of them was accepted second time round. My only conclusion is that I got a reviewer on a bad day.

The istockalypes didn't start excluding independents until about a year ago. I went on one as a non exclusive and was treated wonderfully by Bruce and company and was seriously considering becoming exclusive at the time but now I'm so glad that Dt restrictions stopped me doing it straight away as IS now account for only about 10 - 15% of earnings when at the time it was over 50%. So far this month I have made 3 times more on FT than on IS.
