Wow, that was a big story last week.  I'm not sure if they can grab the image under "fair use" as representative of the site itself, since that is the subject of the story.  Would it be different if they grabbed a screen shot of the front page?  There are a lot of "non news" sites as well.

I'm not sure what to do with that one.

a: I am not Bruce, and 2: the person posted their portfolio, and while they were certainly free to apply with it, I didn't think they'd be approved with it.  Oh, and C: I have nothing to do with the application process.

I'm starting to think this weird fascination is just a hobby of yours or something.

If you notice, the only 'innovation' and 'thinking out of the box' is a number that is quite 'unsustainable'.  A royalty percentage is not all there is, as Joanne says.

Odd, since the agreement makes no distinction between a raster created from a vector or any other raster: "Because iStockphoto offers different categories of content, this agreement may differentiate among categories of content that you produce, such as still photography, which includes all raster files"

Well, whatever.

So, you're an exclusive raster artist on iStock who can sell rasters on other sites?

How does that not conflict with the raster exclusivity agreement?

WME worst month in 10 years, for the 1st time summer beat September !

$63.  From a port that used to net me $1500 In the good ol days.

I don't know what I'm going to do.
It looks like you are selling exclusive raster versions of nonexclusive vectors.  It seems unlikely that you will get many sales of your exclusive rasters if you are selling the nonexclusive vectors at 1/3 the price.

How can you be exclusive for rasters at IS when SS offers raster versions of vectors?

Ah, that little grey link in the top right?  I'll have to try it out.  Well, at least mine's automatic :) .  Odd that the DT support person didn't offer that up as a solution when I complained about having to choose categories and releases over and over.

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy application... was declined
« on: September 25, 2014, 15:41 »
Stocksy is a joke.

All that you need to do is compress the tonal range (less contrast, push the RGB curve up in the left bottom and down in the right top) and do split toning (blue in shadows, orange in highlights).

You do this and you'll get accepted.

Good luck in your next try.

Really?  Is that what I've done?

Don't worry - he's an angry elf.

I was just experimenting with DT, and I found the image submittal process to be a real drag, having to look at each file one by one.  So I wrote a script to speed things up.  Read about and get the script here: http://www.seanlockephotography.com/2014/09/25/submitting-dreamstime/

I added a donate button because people had asked in the past, and I'm short on beer, so it's there if you find the script useful.  :)

Yes, I'm Bruce.  Come see my tattoos. :)

They are really busting through the applications lately, and have been adding new contributors each week.  Some take more conversation than others which can take longer.  Sorry it's such a long process.

I believe it's just the application process will close, but the queue will be reviewed until done.

Hey, I like those hand drawn elements mixed in there.  That's an interesting take.  Do more of that.

New Sites - General / Re: new site stocktal

If you will think outside of the box and recognize what stocktal is you will realize we are changing the business from the ground up.

Sorry, how are you thinking "outside the box" and "changing the business from the ground up"?  Now, Canva is a good example of thinking outside the box.  What you are doing just looks like another microstock site.

I'll be interested to hear what others think!

What's the USP?

Boot 'em.  If they can't cover their own processing fee cost, cut royalties and introduce a subscription plan, then kick 'em to the curb.

Sales on Stocksy are about to pass my BME and there's still a week to go.
Are you saying you are having a BME or just your best month at Stocksy?

BME at Stocksy.

Buyers apparently are looking for a different experience than they've been having and are willing to back that up with cash.  Sales on Stocksy are about to pass my BME and there's still a week to go.

SS will have a BME, but of course, that's because I'm still growing my port there with content SS buyers haven't seen yet.

I see the pimp thread is "Let's showcase 3 - 4 Vetta images that are now a great value for our buyers!" .  There still seems to be this idea that Vetta is hanging around.  It's gone, right?  Kaput.  No further collection.  Same with S+.  "Vetta" is just a click button to nominate images for Getty, afaik.

That's a thesis?  He asked a bunch of questions of others, made charts from the answers and then said what was in the charts.

That was my first thought. When I got my masters I remember one of the professors would always challenge your conclusions by saying, "so what?".  I would love to hear a so what conclusion.

Right.  I thought you were supposed to derive some conclusion from the research, or make a point, or a discovery.  Some sort of extensive look into why things are the way they are, or where they are going.

Sounds like Jim did the thesis, instead ;)

Unfortunately, the Vetta content is buried in 10 million other files.  And isn't really "Vetta" anymore anyways because of that :).  Vetta said hasta la vista last week.

Besides, I'm just responding to people who are upset and yelling about it in a public, crowded park.  If you see an upset post about another agency, you could probably respond too...
