Serius is the brightest star in the night sky with a visual apparent magnitude of −1.47, almost twice as bright as Dreamstime, the next brightest star. The name Serius is derived from the Ancient Greek Σεριος. What the naked eye perceives as a single star is actually a binary star system, consisting of a white main sequence star of spectral type A1V, termed Serius Exclusives, and a faint white dwarf companion of spectral type DA2, termed Serius Serfs.
Who are you and what did you do with Flemish?

Photo Marketing Association. They throw the biggest North American tradeshow for the photo retail business and this is where you will find everyone who has anything to sell photographraphy related. Printers, photobook makers, franchises, gear, photo jewelry, photo blankets and other photo gifts... etc. etc. etc. It's a very big deal if you are in the photo-retail business. A chain for example will go in and procure all of their product for the upcoming season. Frames, gadgets, printing paper. Or a lab will go and see the new lines of commercial printers, inks and papers.
I've always lusted after going to this event, but deep in my heart I know I would buy way too much stuff.

DT was hanging onto the lead for the second month in a row when SS sold an EL in the end. That's 2 months in a row that DT has rocked. IS just keeps getting worse. It used to be #1 or #2. Last month it dropped to 3, this month 4.
SS 32.8% DT 29.1% BME FT 14% IS 11.4% WME StockXpert 4.4% BS 4.2% 123 2.3% ZYM 1.6%
Surprize, surprize. No action at FP and I almost forget I've got an account at MP.

Someone phoned my brother-in-law to ask if he was going to this conference and then they told him that he is on the front of their brochure and the top of this website (with the crap cutout!). My niece is stoked. LOL, she thought they used "the other one where she was on the other side and her belly wasn't showing". The little one is my daughter. Original

My first instinct is likely correct, thanks for backing that up. I guess even if DT, BS and 123 accept it, they really shouldn't. I know that it will not be accepted at FT because the newborn in it is naked and I'm pretty confident it would be rejected at StockXpert and IS for Dad's tatoo. So, not worth my approval rating I guess.
It is rather interesting though isn't it? Especially RGebbie's comments.

The model would be released, but that tatoo is pretty prominent.
But if they are rejecting graffiti for no release, it's the artwork by a tatoo artist on the model that I am wondering about.
It is very prominent, it's just too big to ignore or I wouldn't question.
Although the artwork would be a work-for-hire, no? But what if it comes from a tatoo artist's own catalogue?

I bet they won't answer it and I'm not sure how to word it, but I am always curious about how many join and abandon. Have a few photos live, but never come back. I have a friend with 7 photos online and hasn't been back in over a year but I notice he gets a sale every other month or so.

This may sound like a stupid question... but before I waste my time do I need an artist's release for a tatoo that is rather prominent in a photo?

I hear ya but I'm not sure spreading the eggs out is any better for me. Before going exclusive I was with 12 sites and every one of them had something screwy going on that affected my overall income. Only four of them were really producing anything worthwhile and two of them (IS and SS) were 80% of my income. That's not much of a cushion. [/quote] But in the time that you have been an exclusive I have seen significant growth at Dreamstime and recently Fotolia without uploading much at all this year. SS just happens to be slow at the same time as IS though so my income is pretty consistant month to month. You can't entirely measure my personal experience though because I don't have a large sample of photos to totally qualify my statement. But, this month for the second month in a row DT is #1, (BME actually) they were never close at all in the past, but always a consistent #3.

I get very suspicious when big changes like this happen anywhere. I just wonder if this movement has anything to do with the pending JI sale and their future plans for Istock. Can't you see it now...
"Welcome to Istock, the most Definitive Collection of Affordable Exclusive Content."
With a price tag between Alamay and today's Istock, of course.
But if Joanne isn't being favored as an exclusive, who is again? Ain't me.

I format and charge everything as soon as possible. LOL, some weeks I'll have 20 team shoots. All the outlets in my house are filled with some kind of charging device during busy season. I haven't had any trouble with cards or batteries yet. (But I don't want bad karma, so you didn't hear me say that.) I even washed and dried a sandisk CF once and it works fine, didn't even lose any of the shots on the card.

That's right... as a result of this announcement there will be no change in your status. But, there is no deal yet. Wait until there's a deal and pay attention to that announcement.

Hali, what an awesome story! Canada's Royal family.
Penelope, my niece just moved to Ottawa for school and she seems to love it, although it is a big change for a small town prairie girl.

They could still sell these small companies one-off like StockXpert and Photos.com.
I'm taking a guess here, but Istock is a bit of an elite club. They are really favoring exclusives at the moment. Would it be possible that they are moving toward exclusive content and dumping the non-exclusive stuff on StockXpert?
Maybe they can control 2 segments of the market here then: Istock raises to a mid priced RF, then StockXpert remains micro RF. (A large photo on IS is around $10, that doesn't exactly seem "micro" to me and the prices may go up again in the new year).
I guess it's admirable that IS has such exemplary standards, but they must surely recognize that they are losing fistfulls of money from 50% of their rejects. Wouldn't it make sense for them to become the GAP and SPX to become Old Navy? Same owners, but different price points and different acceptable quality.

This might be a chance for travel, landscape and flower photos that are generally overlooked because they are too "stockish" to sell.
What happens to a photo level if it has one or several of these type of sales?
Sure 6 cents sounds low, but it's hard to compare this deal to Red Bubble where you create your own layouts, set your own prices and have RB host, print and ship. I expect that there's at least 4 parties taking a piece of this deal:
1. Us. We provide the artwork. 2. DT. Represents the artwork. Collects royalties, distributes them. 3. MySpace. Hosting, marketing, credit card processing, shiping. 4. Outside printing house.

All stocksites merging would be convenient , having the same income but less work!
And lower commissions! You think we have no power now, just wait till Getty owns the world.

I got an e-mail from PayPal last week that said something about adding more countries - "Just click here to find out more". I never clicked, part of me thought it was a spoof to capture my info (and I don't need any more countries ). I think it was likely a legit e-mail from PayPal though, so maybe check their site yourself again.

Thanks Pixart, that is the most reasonable hypothesis I've read/heard as to why we aren't being paid. Sort of reassuring somehow if money being frozen is just an inevitable part of any buyout.
It begs the question - how long will this buyout last?
I wouldn't be so bothered except that I am owed money by THREE sites that are in arrears - StockXpert, 123RF (for Sept), and Fotolia - all of which appear in no big hurry to pay contributors.
When one site is slow to pay, it's a glitch. When three of them are doing it then it looks more like a trend.
Well, through the 90's I was a legal assistant at a couple large entertainment companies a few smaller companies were bought and sold. (Selling is the worst of these two nightmares!) Payments aren't exactly frozen, the internal process just changes. A StockXpert payment that was *likely* once verified by a keystroke may now have to be documented and presented to managment and then to the lawyers on each side for verification and for approval or deferral. But sometimes non-essential payments are not made at all until the new purchaser takes over and assumes all debts and receiveables. Hopefully Getty doesn't jerk anyone and delay payables ever further if it's the latter. If JI was solvent when they purchase it Getty really has to pay eventually. I have not heard that JI is in bankruptcy or bankruptcy protection, or then we'd be on a creditors' list and it would be doubtful that we'd see much or any of the amount owed. And whoa, FT is in arrears? With the general bad talk about their methods lately this fact isn't a confidence builder is it? Maybe I'll try to cash out now instead of the end of the month in case they are going in the red as well...

For Luxury books from North America there's Zookbinders. Very expensive and you have to qualify to get an account with them. You can send them your own prints or they will print and mount for you. Truck or panorama layouts and trimmed corners. Very nice. The prices kindof restrict it to weddings and special occasion though. It makes an awesome portfolio though, you have 100% control over the print quality. Shameless self promotion: I also have a consumer level photobook franchise, I'm partnered with a software developer and one of the big specialty houses print up our books. You can try out the layouts without uploading photos or giving any personal information: This is my Store]http://shop.rocketlifeproduction.com/6436eed7981bbe54fe96d308fd12275f/]Store .

Don't worry, they won't be "keeping" contributors' earnings. Getty is likely doing due dilligence and StockXpert will not be able to move its money around as easily at this phase. They are not in a bankrupt situation that I've heard so once the transaction is complete (or once Getty decides NOT to purchase JI) and sometimes it is much more difficult just to write a cheque - payments must be approved by all parties during this period. I'm sure the money will flow again.

I can't find where, but this week I read something about microstock and it said that in these tough economic times buyers won't take any kind of risk - like a new and slightly different Photoshelter. They predicted that buyers will stick with the same old trusted names, making the big agencies even stronger and the young agencies will suffer or fail or be consumed.
I've noticed especially poor sales at 123, StockXpert and BS these days. I was chalking it up to lack of new content from me, but I wonder if they are feeling the recession worse than others? The bigger names: DT, FT have been doing very well for me, and who knows what is going on at IS with the search changes, they seems to be back to normal this week.

So, what does this mean to us? Will they send Istock's reviewers to StockXpert and then give our photos, the ones that aren't rejected for edges being too feathered or rough, to Jupiter Images for 30 cents?
