If Dreamstime and Veer would just lower their payments....  Why on earth does SS need to?

227
And Caf Press.  I opted out.  I am actually opting out of the whole show after my next payout, $3 or ten years.  Whichever comes first.

"P"ixart just got some in the last hour, maybe "S"helma will follow alphabetically?

Considering my SS income is 75% this month, 79% last month and close to 60% the rest of the year, I would jump all over that offer.  Well - depending on notice period, if it is a year NOPE, but 30 days would be fine with me!

There might be some confusion.  At first I thought he meant the photos were printed and hanging on a gallery wall for sale already.  But I think he likely means they are displayed online and offered for purchase.  Sadly, this is becoming very common.  Supposedly they are allowed to display the image for sale, but only pay us once there is an actual transaction.  You would think this would be an EL sale, but I don't think so.

And we trust them to be honest and pay for it again when the next customer wants the same print.

Yes.  Worth switching!  Expect a learning curve.  The only thing I missed from Capture was the U-point and it was easier to save and rename photos one by one after you edited.  I certainly didn't miss the program crashing all the time.  Lightroom ain't no speed-queen either, but in 3 years it has crashed maybe twice on me.  You still have to wait for those thumbs and when opening up a photo to 100% takes a couple seconds it might as well be a couple hours.  (Note - I am still using v4.4)

With Lightroom you can also batch apply basic copyright and tags upon upload, batch apply edits like lens corrections/white balance/shadows etc.  I've always used Viveza in Photoshop, it has been a couple years, but I seem to remember it being rather clunky in Lightroom and that it made a new copy of the image that was stored a the end of the batch.  You had to leave your spot to go to the end and flag it so it went with your batch export at the end.

I have the Nik Collection, but honestly the only tool I use is Viveza.

Adding:  Supposedly, Nikon has stopped developing Capture, so they must be sick of it crashing as well!

Interesting twist the story here:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3134646/Taylor-Swift-accused-making-photographers-lucrative-rights-images-just-hours-criticised-Apple-not-paying-artists-fairly.html

Photographer claims Taylor Swift demands all rights to photographs taken at her gigs!

I've been hearing about this clause for years, I think that is a pretty standard with big names these days isn't it?  Maybe Matt Hayward can comment if he still has time to shoot bands.

I guess they have to cash in on the fact that 90% of their audience is holding up a cell phone for most of the show, if no one is buying signed 8x10's in the lobby they have to take it from the 10 pros with photog passes.  Impossible for venues to police the basic rules any more.

233
Then of course, turn you off in the search engine so they only have to payout the 50%-ers.

234
And we appreciate it!  I think it was your summer hiatus and a bunch of us guilted him into deleting his original post.  The dude did get banned eventually though.  A Cannon guy with a Sigma Bigma.  Haha, can't remember his name but his gear, I am not normal am I?

The Internet really brings out personality extremes.  The anonymity can really bring out the worst in people.  But then, look how sweet we all are on facebook also!

I can remember the day Serban had enough and said he would never come participate here again.  Can't remember why exactly, but that he was attacked and I was a little disgusted with our behaviour.

That's very unprofessional, and if their job includes posting on forums and socials they better learn how to deal with their own user base or find another career.

I had to listen to the most ridicolous BS and trash and even a few insults when i was working in retail, face to face, i've never lost my frame and neither my colleagues or we would have been fired on the spot ...

I don't know why for so many it's so hard to deal with people online and with their complaints, i guess some of them are just plain jerks and they're even more jerks in real life ?

But when you are publicly made fun of for your ponytail and openly hated for the country you are from it is a bit much wouldn't you say? That wasn't the time he left, but I seem to recall that same photographer was pushing the buttons.

I have been contacted directly by agency reps after I've posted a problem or question here.  A few private PM's (most recently Grant from Veer) and once even received a phone call from Canstock offering to help with an issue.

I am pretty sure even if you don't think they stop by, they all lurk.

Actually, Ron is right - she is only worth 60 Mil per year on music and ancillary sales.  It would take a few years to hit a billion.  http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/singers/taylor-swift-net-worth/

Man, am I glad I don't have to count all that money.

Maybe I need to hold off for a minute before I go down on my knees to ask for my return to FT   ;)

I think you can hold off on that for a while - so far I haven't seen any uptick in sales.  What about everyone else?  Have sales increased significantly since this change?

I don't think there will be much of an uptick until the real buyers' subscriptions end elsewhere.  But, when is that - month end?  Year end?

On fotolia more than 50% are credit sales.
.

Wowza, I would love to live on your planet.  I get one credit sale for every 4-6 subs.

I'm one of those forced to watch from the sidelines (Fotolia wouldn't have me back as a contributor after my iStock exclusivity ended) so perhaps my perspective is skewed, but I don't see the convenience or the asset management as being enough of a draw to pull buyers away from Shutterstock.

I would hope that Adobe would reconsider artists based on their skills not on how they have voiced their opinons.  I hope a huge conglomerate of professionals like Adobe would have not have the same knee jerk reactions that a "how dare you I built this empire myself in my basement" company has.  There are so many others who gave a voice for everyone (Bobby Deal comes to mind) that were punted out while I believe they were unfairly treated for confronting rule changes and questionable practices.

I find the contributor levels at FT a tad unrealistic, I'm sure most agree.

I think Cobalt said it elsewhere "now I have a chance of reaching gold in this lifetime!"  since the subs count as downloads.  That's something.  Glad to see that Leaf and a few others have sprinted ahead overnight.

Software / Re: Does anyone here design apps?

I don't consider myself a "young person" :) but I spend a lot of hours sitting at hockey practice or in the waiting room at dance or school assemblies etc.  So many hours of the week.... If I could be productive while I wait!   I can sometimes submit files from home and remotely tag model releases and push them through.  Unless you have a wifi password, bringing a laptop isn't much use, and a lot of hockey arenas are dead so an ap that requires connection wouldn't work.  I don't think anyone can seriously expect to retouch photos on their iphone, but why not keyword?

At home I have a network and put aside certain types of work so I can sit in front of the tv and do mindeless tasks on my laptop.  (Not enough hours in the day!) But to me EVERYTHING takes twice the effort if I am not sitting at my desk on my desktop.

I can't type properly to save my life on my phone, so for me keywording at the hockey rink would not be a good idea.

Comparing RPD - in 2015 FT is having a better year falling between .56 and .88 and SS is growing also - between .7 and 1.99.  I'm still Silver on FT though.

All they need to do now is change the name of FT so I could feel like maybe I could trust them again.  But so nice to wake up to some positive news for once!

247
Call me a heretic but I reckon a board of directors made up of contributors would be a complete disaster they probably wouldn't be able to agree to what paper to record the board meeting minutes on!
LOL once we get the agree disagree buttons worked out I'm sure we can hammer this one out...

Creative Market does a very poor job of showing you what is in their bundles. I get the marketing, but lose interest because you have to click this and that to see what is there.  Deal Jumbo on the other hand really puts a lot of effort into showcasing their bundles.

I said it on another thread - I think CM stuffs bundles to look like a great deal, but I can't believe how bad those photos are and I'm really surprized Stocksy admits to any affiliation with them!

I do agree Tickstock.  It just drives me mad that we abide to an agreement and they do whatever, whenever they want.  Because they can.

"Today's announcement brings together all forms of user generated content (photography, videography, live video streaming and copyrighting), ..."

Copyrighting is a form of content? I might be persuaded that "citizen generated content" was a step up from user generated content as a term companies use when they mean "the great unwashed" but are trying to avoid saying it, but it's just more euphemisms. If anyone can submit stuff to them, then that's the business model - why go to such great lengths to point out the background of the people submitting?

It might be copyrighting if they are claiming you forfeit your copyright upon upload.  Are you giving rights away, can't be bothered to look for an agreement.
